I found this rock at Swift Creek in Skagit County, Washington.
I thought it was just quartz with some jasper, but I asked some local rockhounding groups and they said Baker blue agate with jasper!
Watch until the end to see microscopic view of tiny quartz crystals and other minerals!

Polishing a beautiful piece of quartz? or maybe agate? A friend asked us to polish this. Initially we thought it might be an agate due to its patterns and translucency, but after asking some local rockhounds online, we believe it's quartz. Tell us what you think in the comments! Lovely video, thank you so much! I've been struggling with polishing jasper after carving, for some reason the instructions just weren't meshing in my head. I just love the piece you found, and all the inclusions you revealed! I got a nice chunk of Dalmatian jasper, and I went super cliché and made it a dalmatian. I don't care, I love it, and now it will get the shine it deserves! I live in a big city so I rely on my nieces to find me cool stones, but I miss just walking the ditches or train tracks picking neat rocks! Being able to find wild jasper would have me over the moon. I clearly need to move 😂

      @thebroadhouse 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you!! I would LOVE to see your dalmatian jasper! That sounds so cute! I used to buy most of my rocks online because we lived in Florida, and most of what I collected was just shells or limestone. Now that we've moved to Washington, we are thrilled with the variety and quality of rocks! Can always find something worth keeping here 😁

      Hi, thank you so much! Yes I use the water drip with the diamond bits and the sanding discs. The bits and discs last longer because they're staying clean and cool. The rock stays cleaner, too! I worked for a hard-surface counter tops company once and thats where i learned to polish stone with one of these. Theirs was air powered, which is what i want. Already have a compressor and attachments and air hose all set up and ready to go to work. Little by little ive been gearing up over the last year and a half.

    • @thebroadhouse
      @thebroadhouse หลายเดือนก่อน

      Change grits when you notice significantly less (or none at all) material being removed. You'll notice that when you start a new grit, there's quite a bit of dust coming off of the rock. When this stops happening, it's time to move on. This is the method that I use. Yes, I can make a video about that. Can you tell me a little more about what you'd like? Do you want to see more of the process or more explanation? or both? ☺️

    Wie lange dauert der Prozess insgesamt bis zum fertigen Stein? Sehr schön! 👍

      Thank you! This one only took a couple of hours since I didn't have to do any shaping.

    How often do you wet the stone throughout the grinding and polishing? Love your videos!

      Thank you so much! I try to keep the stone as wet as I can. The water helps keep everything clean and cool, giving a better finish and preserving your tools!

      Yes this one was a lot of work and I still should've spent more time on it 😅 I have a love/hate relationship with jasper right now lol. so beautiful, but hard to work with. (it breaks and chips a lot)
