    Do your dogs differentiate recall using their names from just saying their names when you aren't recalling them? Better yet how do you teach: in a group of dogs, one specific dog to listen to a command instead of the whole group doing the command?

    Got any advice on food aggressive/ toy aggressive, over hyper, Jack Russell mix. Context: My dad, who got the dog not knowing what a jack Russell mix properly needs. ( he got him in hopes of him being low maintenance for my mom and his dog recently passed from old age, plus he himself is disabled) I have no idea how to train very hyper dogs, let alone one that jumps and nips, unknowing of other dogs, he also never really steps foot outside, my mom is scared if another dog will kill him because people are not smart in my area and have there dogs free roam even though there is a law on it. I have no idea what im doing for him. Let alone I don't wanna take him to petco for training since thats way out of budget its almost an hour drive to get to the nearest pet store to take him as well. People in my area also tend to say there dogs are friendly and are not. Hes a good dog, theres things they do teach him. But at least obedience to not run out the door, and to not nip and jump would be wonderful. Food and toy aggression is nice as well.. But I know sometimes you can't train it out of them if its been too long... :,)

  • @Faeyeful

    When the first idea of a trainer is a "pressure" pain device sorry, you are out. Prong collars and also E-collars are banned in many places because there is not a single valid use case for them that could not be addressed in a non pain/stressful way to any animal ever. Where I come from using a prong collar gets you a fine up to 25.000€ for animal abuse. And it is REALLY hard to push for any animal welfare laws, the fact that this is a law in many places should already be a clear sign... Any for people looking for excuses: Tigers, hippos, lions, crocodiles, and nearly all wild animals are trained purely on positive reinforcement - why? Because it works and putting stress/pain on an animal like that simply gets you killed. So just because you can subdue an animal with it because it is a nice animal, doesn't mean you should. The body language speaks volumes of the dog. But trainers like this don't mind it as long as there are results.

    • @nxtniklas
      @nxtniklas 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Absolutely. I would agree to put this dog on a normal collar but jumping straight to prong is just stupid.

    • @oiltanker
      @oiltanker 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      i agree with you that prong collars shouldn't be the first option in regards to ANY behaviour, but to say prong collars have "not a single valid use" and that they are just to put the dog in stress and pain isn't true. Prong collars are banned in some countries yes, but they arent banned just because of the sort of tool they are, they are banned because they are often misused and when misused (like literally any sort of tool including flat collars and harnesses) can cause pain and distress to the dog. They are banned as a precautionary measure because inexperienced owners see them as a "quick fix" to their dogs behaviour, which could/would lead to irresponsible use of them. The ban of them in certain countries (its only like 8 or 9 countries) is there to prevent misuse by people who dont know what they are doing, not because they are an inherently abusive tool. Some dogs simply dont respond to strictly positive reinforcement training, IE dogs with extreme behavioural issues, extreme pulling etc. They are not meant to cause pain but to give clear communication and guidance to a dog. They are designed to evenly distribute pressure around the dogs neck, similarly as to how a mother dog corrects her puppies....in lots of cases without tools like an E collar or a prong collar dogs would have had to get put down or live in a shelter its entire life. You mention that positive reinforcement is used to train WILD animals. yes, wild animals which are trained by highly skilled professionals on specific behaviours in controlled environments. Dogs are not wild animals, they are domesticated and live in human enviroments. they have different expectations. Prong collars are NOT meant to subdue a dog, they are a communication tool to give a dog clear guidance (paired with good positive reinforcement) and are there to help a dog succeed. Real experienced dog trainers prioritize the dogs wellbeing and not just using aversive tools "to get results". (idk who this youtuber is i have not seen him before but thought id respond to your comment)

    • @ItsLukeDude

      prong collars absolutely have a place. This isn't one of them, but saying there is no valid use for them just means you advocate for euthanizing dogs.

    • @ed8054
      @ed8054 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Wild animals are trained from birth by professionals and not all wild animals are even able to be trained. Prong collars are fine, but they are to be used in certain circumstances for certain dogs. As others have said, its a PRESSURE device. The prongs aren't sharp enough to do anything unless the dog truly acts out. If the dog responds well, the collar is fine. If the dog appears to be stressed, the collar isn't the right training mechanism. The lady in this video NEEDS to be more dominant with their dog. Training a dog isn't just about positive reinforcement. Dogs need to learn that they obey you, and you are not just a friend.

      @MozzOaks 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Harnesses are great once a dog understands leash manners but teaching them with a harness can be difficult. Reason being is harnesses distribute the pressure evenly which promotes pulling in dogs that don't have leash manners. Not saying it can't be done as I've done it with multiple dogs but that's because I establish a heel before adding the leash into the mix and using treats to reinforce a loose lead walk. But I will always vary from dog to dog ^^

    • @sophiagutzler8453
      @sophiagutzler8453 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      At the end of the day it's all a matter of skills and not tools. You can teach a dog how to walk properly on a lead with a harness. Especially if a dog is pulling nonstop the collar or prong collar can be harmful to its neck. For an on the top correction a properly used prong collar can work wonders. But most to nearly all people don't use it right or don't even know ANYTHING about these collars (same with e-collars). In my country these collars are even banned because of the amount of people just straight up abusing their animals with it. A short light tuck on the lead with a prong collar is enough of a correction, same with the vibrating of an e-collar. Yanking on the prong collar or literally shocking your dog (no matter what setting on e-collar) is abuse and not training at all. Corrections can be physical without a problem. Simply holding on the collar, to force the dog to calm down is far from beating the sh!t out of them or grabbing them by the cruff to press them down. Some (like f.e. Cesar Milan) really believe dominance should be a part of dog training while they just abuse the dog. Just because the dog finally does what you want him to do, does not mean you used the right method. It's scientifically proven that dogs learn faster with positive reinforcement. That doesn't mean u should not correct your dog. But it's a matter of how you correct.

      Don’t understand why he says you have no control with a harness. I have a 95 pound dog who could drag me down the street if he wants to. A regular collar meant all 4 feet were on the ground and he had leverage. I had no control when he wanted to pull. The harness allowed me to lift his front two feet off the ground if he pulled so no leverage. This control allowed me to train him. No more pulling. Walks are pleasant now.
