Using the "Pivot & Slide" Nancy Zieman Method - Will it work?
Hi Izzy. Both makes are gorgeous. I'm going to Babylon kits
Hi Izzy - your handbag is simply stunning and I hope you can overcome the lock situation. This is a real statement piece and deserves to be seen. I am super impressed. The leisure suit you sewed for your daughter is lovely and I think she will get a lot of wear out of it. I must explore the option of a stretch velvet leisure suit for our next winter. I will be interested to see how the LN Whistler top sews up in this fabric as I haven’t sewn that one up yet. Happy sewing. 🌸
It really was a good week! Marianne is never going to want to take that loungewear set off, and I cannot believe you made that bag yourself - wow! It does look to be very good quality from this side of the laptop and hopefully you will use it more than you think you might right now - it deserves to be seen! I have some emerald green stretch velour, too, by coincidence, that I want to make into a kind of hoodie to wear around my chilly house. Went out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving with family for the first time ever - very nice, but not having leftovers is a bummer the next day when you have to figure out what's for dinner 😄!
You had an amazing week, wow great sewing by machine and by hand. Just wonderful. Busy lady! We are still busy moving. Out of one house and waiting to get into the other. Staying with my son. Still not sewing but looking forward to setting up my new sewing room that has one wall of built in shelves, floor to ceiling but only 8” deep. That will be a challange to figure out but a great space for sure. We went to a wonderful local tavern for a buffet. First time I have not cooked Thanksgiving dinner in over 30 years. It was wonderful, no cleaning or cooking but sadly no leftovers. Looking forward to seeing your next creations. Stay well 😊
I'm sure you'll figure it all out and have an amazing sewing space when all is said and done. No clean-up and no dishes does sound nice but the leftovers are often the best part LOL xx
@ forgot to mention how fab the lounge set is!
Enjoyable video😊
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanksgiving was quiet with half the family away, but everyone is coming for christmas so that will be busy. Nice bag though, tempted but my arthritis will not allow that hand sewing.
Exciting that everyone will be there for Christmas! And yeah, the hand sewing on that leather was pretty hard on the fingers.
A stunner, Izzy! Fab work! And, you know how I feel about that loungewear! 💗
Thank you Andra! That loungewear is pretty nice and I can't wait to have my own.
you know you don't have to use the lock, right? 😂you could just put the sangles over the turnkey thingie and turn it and that should hold pretty securely. you might not even need the sangles either--the flap might hold in place by itself. i'm not sure as i don't have a kelly. i love the style--it's such a pretty bag and yours turned out great!
Hmmm... good point Sara! LOL I'm going to have to see what the bag looks like without the lock and maybe even without those straps. I do love the bag though. It's super pretty!
Izzy, your daughters lounge wear is gorgeous and so snuggle worthy! And your plans for your own are going to be just as gorgeous. Oh my goodness that handbag is unbelievable. I see what you mean about the lock, a bit fiddly to operate. But a statement piece non the less.
Thank you Donna! I'm so excited about making myself that loungewear set. It's going to be the most amazing outfit for a day spent in the sewing room this winter.
The lounge wear is gorgeous! And your bag is beautiful. I bet you could change that lock to another clasp system easy!! 😊
Oh I might be able to - I'll need to look into that. Thank you!!
Your bag is lovely. Your loungewear green fabric is luscious.
Thanks so much! I love that fabric colour so much and it is super cozy and soft!
Hi Izzy. I'm driving around today doing a little shopping and watching you. The bag is beautiful. You did a great job with it!❤
Hi Zelda! Thank you so much for taking me along with you! What kind of shopping were we doing? LOL
@dizzyquiltsandsews I just left Joann fabrics and I bought some flannel fabric for PJ shorts
Izzy that bag is incredible!! Oh my word I am so impressed I'm lost for words ❤. Looks more like a 'dress' bag rather than a functional day to day one but it needs to be shown off! What a wonderful lounge wear set that pink velour turned out to be. I knew you would end up making yourself one and the blue green fabric is stunning against your skin. Have a great weekend xx
Thank you Carole! I'm so happy with the look of the bag you might be right. This might need to become a "dressier" bag so it can come out with me from time to time. Of course I needed a loungewear set for myself - I wish you could feel this fabric! It's just the coziest softest thing ever! Can't wait to have it all done in my wardrobe! xx
Beautiful makes! The bag looks very professional. It’s a shame about the lock situation. Sara also did not like the closure on her bag.
Thank you! I love the look of the bag. I watched Sara's video after I got my kit unfortunately. Had I known it was a bad choice for me as well, I would have chosen a different kit. They have some really cool backpacks and totebags on their site!
I’m so proud of you! You have such a positive, matter of fact way, healthy way of referring to your shape. I have a low bum and I read somewhere that Edith Head, the iconic Hollywood fashion designer, mentioned that Barbara Stanwyk had a low bum that Head would need to make adjustments for in her creations. Somehow that’s helped me be kinder in how I see my own body. Just accept and modify.
That is so kind of you to say, thank you! Not attaching any kind of emotional value to my shape and my measurements is definitely a work in progress for me, but I'm getting much better at it now.
Your trousers are beautifully stylish and smart Izzy, as you soooo deserve them to be after toiling over your toiles !! 😄 Your patience amazes me and I salute you for it. But, as you’ve said before, the whole point of making your own clothes is to make them fire better than ready to wear ! I think your idea of printing a smaller size for the front and doing the tummy alteration sounds logical to me and possibly will also solve the small issue with your slant pockets. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share this detailed video. If nothing else, it teaches us all that putting time and effort into making a garment can pay off so admirably. Big hug and enjoy your week knowing how great you look in your Meriams 😊 xx
Thank you so much Shelly! I really am so proud of my trousers. And I was looking at pictures of me in RTW trousers yesterday. The fit isn't all bad, but there are definitely issues on the back which means these Meriams fit so much better! The Meriams turned out much more expensive to make than the RTW ones, but like you said, all the time and effort really did pay off in the end.
For future pant makes you could put two or four tiny pleats at your back waist and cut a slightly shorter waistband.
True! I could also have made larger darts on the back and adjusted the waistband accordingly.
I am a large busted gal like you. When I've tried this method, I traced the bust position up to the first dart leg . Then I pivoted to the waist from the "bust point". This led to a much bigger dart intake aka a large bust adjustment. It seemed to work well!
Oh thank you for that!
Love your trousers Izzy, I have the same issues with gaping back waist and wrinkles at the front and for that reason hate making trousers, but, now that I've watched your adjustments I will be making a pair of pants. Very informative thanks.😍🏴
You're welcome! You'll have to let me know how it works out.
Your trousers are fabulous! You have inspired me to make some fitted trousers and to do muslins! Thank you.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for watching.
Wow Izzy! They are fabulous! I have that pattern and haven’t been brave enough to make them yet. Thanks for the link to Whitney for lining.
Thank you so much Angie! You definitely should give them a try. Just get yourself some fabric you're willing to "sacrifice" and go for it!!
Wonderful pant fitting video. Many of your changes are also the ones I need. Thank you so much!
You're so welcome!
You pants fit wonderfully. Great tutorial. Thank you.
You're welcome! Thank you for watching.
They look great! Did your adjustment in the front make putting in the zipper harder?
Not at all! My zipper ended up shorter but it was exactly the same to put it in.
Wow, what an achievement 🎉. Your patience really paid off. Thanks for taking us along with you. Well done you 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much! 😊
Wow, you did a wonderful job with your adjustments. I haven't made any pants yet. I would continue to work with the size 20 simce you have done the adjustments. Way to go
Thank you so much! I am curious to see if I'd get even better results with a size 18 though... something to investigate. LOL
Brilliant! You covered a lot of stuff there, thank you!
My pleasure!
EUREKA! I keep adding width to my pants thighs bcs they seem too tight but what I need to do is shorten it to make the knee higher. A thousand thanks
You're very welcome! You might still need to add width, but definitely get the key points lined up first - waist should be at your waist, hips at the widest part of your body and the knee notch at your knee. Once you've got those all sorted, then decide if you need to adjust for width.
Good on you Izzy, you did an amazing job and your pants look great! Very inspiring. Thankyou
Thank you so much for watching!
Your trousers are amazing, very smart looking!
Glad you like them! Thank you so much for watching.
Love your pants … nice job 🥰
Thank you so much! xx
Izzy, thank you so much for taking us through your process! i've got the Meriam Trousers in my queue and I've been waiting to learn from your experience before I start. They look great and should absolutely crank a few pairs out now that you've perfected the fit!! Well done and thanks, again!
I'm so glad this was helpful. I definitely will be making another pair or two.
Wow! You did an excellent and thorough fitting process! Loved watching and learning from this video; thanks for sharing your fitting journey. I plan to buy this pattern.
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you love making them as much as I loved making mine!
Wow! Those pants are really impressive. I love how you showed the whole process.
Thank you so much Katinka!
Great video. Your pants look fantastic. I think I need that pattern, it’s on sale now, so a perfect time to buy.
Thank you so much! You should totally get it, the pattern is really great.
Your pants turned out fantastic!! I don't like welt pockets on the back either. And your pants are lined! How perfect!! It was great fitting along with you. Thanks for taking us on your journey. ❤
You're very welcome! Thank you for coming along on the journey!
Your pants look fantastic Izzy. Great tutorial. Love notions have a video called secrets to perfect pockets. It's good. Sorry l don't know how to add it to my comment.
Thank you so much - I'm going to look at up!!
Thanks for such an informative video.
You're very welcome!!
If I ever dare to try to make "real" lined trousers, I'm going to refer to this video! Congratulations on putting in all the work for a great outcome - the power of persistence!
Thank you Mary! I hope you do try. When you nail them, you're going to feel amazing!
You are AMAZEBALLS, Izzy! Way to go! 💗
Awww thank you so much Andra! xx
Hi Izzy. Yay -- all your work to fit the pants turned out great! On the front pockets, you can either make the pocket opening high up and curved or make the slash pocket angle flatter so the bottom hits the side seam higher up. Both of these often fix a gaping pocket of the full regular slash design. Both also have the top of the pocket opening moved farther toward the center front zipper to still allow enough room for hands. I also got the Meriam Trouser pattern for the unique waistband design. But before I could figure out the mechanics of it, I discovered the Magic Pants pattern from Ann Tilley Handmade. I spent my fitting time with them starting last summer since I wanted to be able to make light summer pants (they are very wide leg). I very much like the Magic Pants waistline with hidden elastic and a sailor-type front panel with stretchy rib knit beneath. Congratulations, Antonia
Thank you so much for the tips on the pockets! I do love the look of these slant pockets, but I'll probably never put anything in them so making them a little shallower and higher might work really, really well. Those Magic Pants do indeed sound magical. I'm going to have to investigate those!!
Those trousers look so smart Izzy, you ended up with a fantastic fitting pair and deserve to after all your hard work. I have a pair of trousers I make where the pockets stick out, it's quite common. If you make the slanted pockets more exaggerated and bring the angle more away from the hips it should change that. The fabric was just perfect and makes you look so professional ❤. Awesome job xxx
Thank you so much Carole! The pockets don't bother me too much, but when I make these again, I'd love to get that solved. So thank you for the tip!
A big win for you! Your pants are lovely. I’m going to revisit my Marion’s again and fine tune the pattern. I’m starting to size down in many of my Cashmerette patterns. Thanks for the inspiration.❤
Thank you so much Barbara! I'm starting to think I should also start sizing down at least for bottoms. I suspect I might have a better fit that way and then just add a little for my full tummy and full bum.
Nice work, for sure. I may get this pattern just for that little trick of the waistband. It’s in a lot of better mens dress pants, I’ve always wondered how to get that waistband, thanks!
Yes, I read somewhere that many "higher-end" trousers for men have that tricked out waistband. Why don't more women garments/patterns have that??
Bravo Izzy, your patience paid off . Before you mentioned it i thought the pocket gaping was due to a full belly, ask me how i know. I usually sew pants without side pockets because of that. Anyway your pants look great and now you're on your way to perfection. Good job.
I really should have researched the gaping pockets before the 3rd muslin because I might have re-printed the pattern in a smaller size and done the full belly adjustment from the start but oh well... you live and learn right?!
They look great Izzy. What patience you have to do three muslins. I bought the class for the Miriam and will be taking them on after the first of the year. I’m working on a big quilt right now and need to stay focused on that. Lol.-Claudia
Thank you Claudia! Ohhh... definitely need to stay focused on the big quilt!
Izzy, your trousers turned out beautifully! Thank you for sharing your “trouser” journey ❤. These videos give us confidence to try making pants and sewing outside of our comfort zone!
Thank you so much Donna! I really appreciate you saying that. That's why I do what I do!
Hi Izzy! I'm so glad you made this video. I've been wanting to make the Miriam Trousers and you've given me a little bit more courage to try. Yours look great! I loved hearing your process!
Thank you Carol! This is a great pattern and lots of fun to sew. And I really, really wanted to fit a pair of Cashmerette trousers because I'm hoping now that the hard work is done, I can make more of their patterns.
Thanks for sharing your fitting journey!
I'm glad it was helpful - thank you so much for watching!
Wow, your pants are beautiful. You are inspiring me to attempt making a pair of trousers. Love them.
Yay! Just be patient with yourself. The hard part when making trousers is the fitting, not really the actual sewing.
