Finished Projects, Procrastinating, and Bread?! | #fridaysews
This week has been all about cozy vibes, quick sewing projects, and winter nesting. I’m sharing the details of my recently finished Ladera Dress (don’t miss the full pattern review and styling tips coming next week!), plus a sweet skater skirt I made for Marianne.
I’ve also been making progress on my Standing Tall quilt, unboxed my Think Pink Sewscription box, and procrastinated on the cutting of the fabrics for the Effervescence quilt-along I'm participating in. On the life side, work has been busy, but rewarding, and I’m embracing the cold Montreal weather with some nesting plans-soup, bread baking (a first for me!), and cheering on my grandson at hockey this weekend.

It is January 2025 and I just watched your sewing room tour. I do have a suggestion for all of your cords that bother you. Get a couple of surge protector cords and use heavy duty double stick tape and tape them to the underside of your sewing table and plug the machine power cords into them that way everything but your foot pedal cord is under you. You can use cord guides to keep your cords from hanging by your legs and this gets them off your table top. Also you did a beautiful job with your tour. You have a relaxing calm voice and I enjoyed your detailed breakdown of what you used and why you put things where they went. 😊

No I have not made knit pants. Fashion for awhile is flannel pajamas. I spent last 4.5 days in hospital. I was unable to have laprascopic surgery to remove my gallbladder due to scar tissue and adhesions in my my body. So I got a long 10 inch incision just under my right breast. No pain if I’m completely still. Any movement not so good right now. Happy though as I know it’s over and will heal soon.
Oh my goodness I'm so sorry the surgery did not go as planned. Please take good care of yourself and sending good thoughts on a speedy recovery. Lounging around in flannel PJs doesn't happen often so take advantage of the forced rest!

When I want fresh bread I use my Black & Decker bread machine - dump in the ingredients, plug it in, a couple of hours later I have a tasty loaf of bread! 😋

Happy Birthday Marianne! Izzy, I’ve made bread in the Dutch oven quite a number of times. I used the recipe in the book “Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day”. One of the authors has a class on Craftsy if you have access to that. Otherwise, there are many Dutch oven no knead recipes online. They are all similar and would likely make a good loaf of bread. It is delicious and quite easy. Good luck!

Super interesting Izzy. Have you tried any of the Cashmerette knit casual pants patterns? I know you made their Merriam trousers.
The only other pair of Cashmerette pants I have made were the ones from her first book and they were pretty successful. But I do have her second book and there’s a knit pants pattern in there. I should have a look at them and see if I can get the fit working. Thank you!

I got started with the cutting but only managed to cut fabrics 1 and 2 before going to bed. It’ll be super important to stay organized with this one and using the labels she provides because all the pieces are different sizes… does keep it from getting boring because you really have to pay attention 😂

Joyeux anniversaire à Marianne! The Sybil Illusion in the $5 Friday pattern at Love Motions today. I used to wear a lot of skirts, and I think I'll enjoy trying a few of the variations. I love bread too much to want to be able to readily make my own. I'll bake cornbread and can make decent biscuits once in a while. Both use baking powder. I have two pairs of trousers cut out ready to sew, fabric for a top to cut out, and a project to finish cutting out and then get the fabric quilted for a project to take to my friend's on Tuesday for our weekly sewing day.
