Too bad it was too cold to enjoy the Christmas market. Looks like it would be a lot of fun. As far as the buttons for your jacket I’d choose something else. It’s too nice for generic plastic buttons. I’d consider a statement metal or wood button. Whatever you choose will be lovely.
… that raspberry knit fabric is fabulous👌🏼👌🏼💙 I need to look up what the southbank looks like now … and as for buttons , my choice is none of those , I think a nice tortoise shell like the kind of buttons you find on trench coats would look best , I’m not sure you have a shop near by or a fabricland you could run too .. or even Amazon online ? I feel like those buttons are too over powering and will take away from how amazing that jacket turned out … 💙💙💙🥰hugs xoxoxo Monica
Hi Izzy. My first reaction on buttons for the denim jacket is that the plastic buttons are too mono-tone for the denim with its nice variation in color. Maybe look for some signature buttons with mottled colors or sparkles? One inch buttons down the front will probably draw the eye, so a great location and size to show off something a little unusual. I hope you're warm and toasty after that very cold Christmas market, Antonia
Thank you for the Christmas Market tour. That is too cold of weather to be shopping in for this "old" lady! I think the black or red buttons look the best, but you could always change them if you get tired of them to a wood or metal button. Good luck on the sweater dress, can't wait to see it completed.
Hi Izzy. I vote for the red or neon yellow buttons. I had a difficult time choosing buttons too. It’s going to look great. And, the nice thing is your can always change them later if you don’t like the buttons.
I often have trouble with buttons, so now I take photos of them, just placed where they would be, on a flat surface. Then I can scroll back and forth easily to see what finally catches my eye . If you wanted a fun look , i liked the way all the colours looked in a row. Thanks for the Montreal Christmas Market footage, I didn't even know about it! The lights are spectacular ( I rehearse downtown at night a lot) and it was nice that it got a little bit darker so that people could see some of them .
Thank you Nancy! I only learned about that Christmas Market this month. So much has changed in that area since the last time I was there. Too bad it was so cold because I would have enjoyed walking around for much longer.
Thank you for the trip to the Christmas Market. I noticed all the cranes around. Were they there for the Christmas Market or is there a lot of construction going on? I thought that building downtown that has the walkway going from one building to the other was very interesting. As for your buttons, I would go with the black. You said you probably wouldn't be buttoning it anyway and that way it would go with whatever you wear under it with no competition with the buttons. Beautiful fabric for your dress. It will be beautiful. 🌲❤🌲
There is a lot of construction downtown right now (and there has been a lot of construction for years to be fair!). That building with the walkway is new. It was my first time seeing it LOL
I personally would not go for the plastic buttons but get something else. However if you decide on the plastic onesI would do red or black. Have you thought of snaps. Whitney from Tomkat stitchery actually did a pretty good tutorial on doing them today.
I’m siding with others who have suggested metal or wooden buttons. You’ve done such a good job with your jacket it deserves something special. Thanks for taking us along to the market. I’m in the suburbs outside of Buffalo and we have much the same weather. It’s so pretty with all the snow but I’ll stay inside on a day like this. 😊
Izzy, loved the footage from the Christmas market!! The fabric you have chosen for your Southbank dress is beautiful. You should be good with that amount of stretch. I have made 2 dresses and one top out of that pattern.
I just loved your Christmas market footage. There were some people without hats 😱 what were they thinking in that temp! 😂 Can't wait to see your Southbank, I regretted my size choice with my dress version and it ended up being a sweater! That fabric is such a pretty colour. Re buttons. If you go for a colour it might restrict what you are wearing underneath it so either go black or buy some more neutral ones. Although say the red is nice if you had a burgundy jumper underneath it wouldn't look great. I'm sure you will wear the jacket a lot so try and get some buttons to suit all. Hope your Dad has a great Birthday xxx❤
Some people don’t feel the cold I guess! 😂 I was wearing winter boots, long puffy winter coat, scarf, hat and mittens and I was still cold!! I really hope my Southbank dress turns out nice because I’m excited about it. As for buttons on the jacket, I decided to listen to everyone here and I’m going to buy neutral metal or wooden buttons. We had a fabulous birthday meal with my dad. He was beaming with all his kids and grand-kids around. Loved it!! Xx 💞
I loved your walk through the market. I would truly enjoy that and the warming stations/fireplaces were a great idea. I also loved the park with all the white lights. So beautiful! I think everyone is right about the buttons-I watched backwards. A nice metal button similar to a Jean button might look good or a wooden button perhaps in a different shape like a triangle or half moon. Just a thought. The other thought I had is a denim covered button with a small embroidery in the middle.
Aren't those lights in the park beautiful?! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really like the idea of different shapes for the buttons on the jacket. I might have to look for that. Thank you!
Brass buttons would look great. I was in London last Christmas and they had a set up of vendors like your Christmas market along the river it was so fun 😊!
I think metal buttons would be amazing. Going to the UK at Christmas is on my bucket list. I saw videos of Edinburgh at Christmas and I want to go so desperately!!
I have you figured for a funky/ artsy kind of lady. What about rounding up enough One of a kind vintage buttons and using those. If you don’t like the look it’s easy enough to replace them.
Hey Izzy, Loved the Christmas market.... you have no snow! We only have a couple of inches but I always feel snow makes the cold weather cosy. It's usually the wind that bites though. It's -14 here now, feels like -22 .... a bit nippy so our dog will only be up for a small walk. Stay warm. I would choose the navy or red buttons myself. I love your fabric for the Southbank. Do you get charged at Cda customs when ordering outside Cda?
No snow 😞 You’re right, I think the cold would be more bearable with some snow around. Plus the lights are so beautiful when there’s snow around. Something really funny about customs… I have found that when Canada Post delivers, I don’t get charged, but UPS and FedEx charge customs fees every single time. I don’t pay customs on my Beyond the Pink Door deliveries because she uses Royal Mail/Canada Post. I get charged when I order from Minerva because that gets delivered by a private delivery company. Very annoying!
How about different colour buttons? I did it on one of my jackets. I had 1” buttons in my stash. All different and looks intentional. They were supposed to be temporary until I could find the right buttons. I’m leaving them, they look interesting.❤
I think the plastic buttons look a little too novelty. I would look for something kind of pewter, or maybe wood. Tortoise shell looking, maybe.
Yeah I think I've changed my mind now and probably won't use the plastic buttons. Thank you!
I always try and use matching buttons so they don’t distract from the design of the jacket. So, I’d use navy or black, whichever one disappear.

Thank you Donna - I think you are right. I need to get better buttons.

Thank you! I think you're right - I need more "special" buttons. I'll try and get some later this week. xx

I'd do black or red buttons. The navy buttons you showed look very light for a navy. Can't wait to see the finished project.

Thank you! I’ll definitely keep you all posted on how the sweater dress turns out!

Thank you Cynthia! You're right, I can always go with other buttons if the first set doesn't work out.
Definitely Red buttons. Navy would be lovely either! Love your vlogmas!
Very sweet of you to say - thank you so much!

I would wait for metal buttons or tortoise shell
11:50 I would wait 😉
I like metal buttoms for denim. Etsy has some great ones.
Red buttons. FUN!!

I like the black buttons! If you had done some yellow or gold top stitching the yellow buttons would look awesome!
I personally would not go for the plastic buttons but get something else. However if you decide on the plastic onesI would do red or black. Have you thought of snaps. Whitney from Tomkat stitchery actually did a pretty good tutorial on doing them today.
I think metal snaps would be a really good option actually. Thank you!

I much prefer to be in my sewing room on a day like yesterday 😂
Pink buttons first choice. Then red and then black
I think red buttons would look great!
I vote for the red, then the pink as second choice but honestly it's a hard choice because any of them would work with denim :)
Definitely black for the buttons for sure. The Christmas Market there looks like a lot of fun!
the market was really cool. Felt like I was in Europe!
Izzy, loved the footage from the Christmas market!! The fabric you have chosen for your Southbank dress is beautiful. You should be good with that amount of stretch. I have made 2 dresses and one top out of that pattern.

Navy blue 😊
I wouldn’t use any of the plastic buttons unless you want them to take center stage. I’d use metal or something close to the fabric colour.
holy cow Siri says that's 5º F! Yikes! Come to Florida! Also - IMO red or black buttons. Hope it warms up. Love your nails!
Yeah it's cold! LOL And no snow! I would love for the temps to go up a bit and have a little bit of snow for Christmas! Thank you xx

I agree with the other sewist some special buttons would be great the markets look so pretty my it is cold🌬thanks for trip ❤😊😊
Thank you Robyn! Yes, it was really cold 😂
I vote pink! I love the fabric you have for your dress. Looking forward to seeing it and hearing your thoughts.
Thank you Julie!

@ yes it’s beautiful
Red or pink 😃
Wait and get nicer buttons. Something neutral. You will want to wear that jacket a lot!
Yeah I think I’ll wait.
I have you figured for a funky/ artsy kind of lady. What about rounding up enough One of a kind vintage buttons and using those. If you don’t like the look it’s easy enough to replace them.
Hmm... that's a really fun idea! Thank you!
I would wait and find some metal or more neutral buttons. If you put the bright ones on it may limit what you want to wear it with.
True! Thank you!
I’d say red or black, depending on the look you decide on. I love a pop of red
I think you should go find nicer buttons but out of the ones you showed, I like the black.
Red buttons
I like the black or pink. However, something a little more rich looking might be better.
Pink pops
Red buttons ❤

Get new buttons. Metal or wood, or real navy. The plastic colored buttons detract from your creation. Add scarf for 'fun'.
How about different colour buttons? I did it on one of my jackets. I had 1” buttons in my stash. All different and looks intentional. They were supposed to be temporary until I could find the right buttons. I’m leaving them, they look interesting.❤
That would be cool!
I don’t like any of those buttons. I think it would be better to wait and find something really good with your jacket
I think I agree! LOL
