Yea, an AI controlled Lex Luthor run police state would be VERY Absolute. I think in that case it would be more likely that they’d be locked up until Darkseid came to town. If that were the case, then I think they’d go against Darkseid together. But if, and even though I don’t like this option as much I think it’s more likely what they’d do, the league defeated Lex, then I think Darkseid might have a way in. Maybe he’d promise Lex Earth (or even the whole solar system) in exchange for neutralizing the League.

I agree with you 100%! I wish more people felt that way. For some reason, there are people who get really upset when you suggest that most people aren't evil, but are just trying their best.

What makes you say that? I feel like so far they've all done a great job of making them accessible for everyone. For example, I never read any Wonder Woman comics, other than when she shows up in crossovers like Flashpoint, but Absolute WW is my favorite of them all so far. They start you off right at the beginning.

@WhatsUpWOLF WW is a good case for what I'm talking about. Yes. You can follow the story. On a basic level. But you'll miss out on a lot of enjoyment. I understood the first issue. It wasn't confusing. But it wasn't really great either. I went online, and almost everyone is talking about the one thing that made that issue so great, so interesting, the most exciting thing about Absolute WW was... Circe is her step mom. Circe? Who tf is Circe? I dont know her. But her being the step mom is the best part of issue one, based on fan reactions. So I can follow the story, but I'm obviously missing out on the fun. Why do we love the Alfred in Absolute Batman? Because we already are familiar with the traditional Alfred! I've heard complaints that Ultimate Spider-Man would be hard to follow without knowledge of his lore, but I think it would hard to find a reader of Ultimate Spider-Man that hasn't read him in the past, or at least seen a few movies of him. Ultimate Spider-Man is not really for new readers, it's for old readers who are tired of bad writing on ASM and who are MJ fans. If i want to read a character new to me, it's a lot easier to read the main universe version. If there's something I need to know, the comic will often say "see issue 134" The continuity will be referenced, you will know where to find out the information. But an absolute/Ultimate book will use a lot of stuff from the main universe, but without telling you where or how they came from. Absolute WW doesn't provide a note explaining who Circe is in another dimension. For Absolute and Ultimate books, my enjoyment is directly proportional to how well I already knew the character before the new version came out.

That's a great point, and what's funny is that sometimes trailers convince you it's going to be a terrible movie when it's not. Like when the Jurassic World trailer came out, everyone was dragging Chris Pratt so bad, and I honestly couldn't see anyway the movie was going to be good. I figured he just wasn't a good actor and his career was toast. But actually, the trailer was just so terribly edited that it made him sound like an awful actor. And then the movie, imo, was great.

I actually had an idea I was pretty excited about for Absolute Aquaman that included Black Manta, but then Aquaman #1 came out and made me think they weren't going to do Absolute Aquaman. But maybe that doesn't matter.

@@WhatsUpWOLF I think using a bat-shotgun against Alfred is a pretty accurate summary of where he stands right now. Sure, he needs treatment and support, but at least he has a stable group of friends-stable in terms of time, not necessarily in their state of mind.

@@Maab_835 he’s lost his money, but I don’t think he’s ever been born without it has he? Lemire is writing JSA and Absolute Flash and a couple of other things, so maybe Snyder will too. I don’t know how busy the Absolute Universe “show runner” role is keeping him. Seems like a lot of the other big names would be too busy. Like Joshua Williamson. He’d be a good choice but he’s already doing Superman and GI Joe.

@ As of now, there's no end in sight. I hope it never ends, but I would imagine it's more likely they'll have some big event in a few years that only the most successful Absolute characters survive. Maybe not though. I'd love it if they just kept it going forever.

@@Maab_835 Me too! I'm hoping the comics will be successful, and they'll slowly introduce the Absolute heroes to each other, then create an Absolute Justice League, and then do a crossover between both universes. But I hope they do it over the course of five years or so.

Snyder could really do some interesting stuff with Mad Hatter. Maybe he could be a bigwig or CEO of a media corporation. Maybe the same network Harley is on.

It would also be cool if Harley was a TV host again with Heart to Heart but at Oprah levels. I’m not sure how Poison Ivy would fit but I’d love to see it. It seems like maybe she’d need to be anti-environment to work.

Why is that cheap? At this point they’re not villains anyway. Black Mask is. He seems like a pretty tough challenge for Batman to face, which is the point of the Absolute Universe. Scarecrow will probably be another powerful person like Black Mask. Freeze too. From what he’s said so far, it sounds like Snyder is making his Absolute villains powerful nihilists, which I think makes a lot of sense given that it’s Darkseid’s universe now.

@@WhatsUpWOLF I get the idea Snyder going for. Trying to lean into the “One Bad Day” philosophy. Where Batman would or could be as broken as them. However, making so many be personal old-pals is kinda a stretch. It works with Two-Face, cause he embodies corruption. It doesn’t work for guys like Riddler and Penguin, who are suppose to be complete narcissists. By trying make everyone a sad story, you remove what makes them stand-out.

@ we don’t really know enough of their backgrounds for them to be sad stories. The Penguin definitely seems sus already. Not only Harvey Dent, but Selena Kyle also makes sense to start out good. She’s always been borderline. I’m gonna let him cook and see if he pulls it out. He’s doing good so far

@@WhatsUpWOLF Don’t get me wrong, I am reading the story. I admit their parts I like, especially the actions, the manga style artwork, and the villain Black Mask. However, much like the $#!% show of “DC vs Vampires”, it feels like the writer telling me to turn-off my brain off while gloating about how smart his story is. Overall, I say my enjoyment is 50/50. It just needs some fine tuning.

I agree about being tired of the deconstruction, and just about everything else you said. Like you, I’m still going to see the movie and hope it’s good. I like Anthony Mackie as an actor.

Currently if you want to keep your job at Hollywood you have to publicly be far left which means in every interview, video, or whatever the case you've got to appease the Hollywood overlords and be as left leaning as possible. Why do you think jack black has been in every kids movie after wishing the unaliving of every Republican?

@ that wasn’t jack black, it was his band mate Kyle gass. Black cancelled the tour immediately. Also, I don’t think Anthony mackie has shown himself to be like that so far. He said he’s a proud American later to clear it up

I agree about bringing people together, but if America were institutionally racist, wouldn’t it have laws designed to oppress certain racial groups instead of affirmative action and anti-discrimination measures? Besides, labeling an entire country that way just leads to division. If the goal is to bring people together, wouldn’t it be better to focus on shared values?

@@JoeyAustin-ul1qb Give me an example. The fact that he doesn't represent the US government or US authority doesn't mean he doesn't represent America. Any time that he's questioned whether he represents America, he's given up the shield and either retired or changed his name except, arguably, for the Ta-Nehisi Coates version which just uses the character to push an agenda. But I think even Coates would say he still represents the ideal America.

They asked him, "What does Captain America represent to you?" and he explicitly said that America isn't even one of the things. He didn't say that Captain America doesn’t "just" represent America. He said he doesn’t represent America at all. I don’t think he meant anything by it and I’m definitely still going to see the movie and be an Anthony Mackie fan. It was just a dumb thing to say.

He came out with a response on Instagram. So, to be charitable, I'm going to assume what he meant was that Captain America, while Captain America represents America, he also has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to. He said he's a proud American, he respects those who serve, and that "Cap has universal characteristics that people all over the world can relate to.” He's also said other things in the past that make me think he's not anti-American or anything like that.

The idea that he shouldn’t represent America because the country has flaws misses the point. Patriotism isn’t blind allegiance to authority. It’s a commitment to the best version of your country. Even when Cap stands against corruption or bad leadership, he does it as a representative of American ideals. Saying he represents the American dream but not America doesn’t make sense. The dream is tied to a real country, history, people, etc. Even if the government isn’t living up to its ideals, that doesn’t mean America itself stops being worth representing.

Mackie was at a press junket in Italy, and it sounds to me he was trying to be inclusive and may have put it in the wrong way. Gaffes happen, he's not given a script when answering questions. But it's really idiotic to think he would purposefully go out to offend.

It was an absurd thing for him to say and it was wrong. In the video, I share the exact question he was asked. And while saying that Captain America doesn't represent America is ridiculous, I said I don't think he meant anything by it. I also said I'm still going to see the movie, that Anthony Mackie is awesome, and that the movie looks awesome.

I did not watch the full video. So maybe I’m giving the actor too much hate for this. But it certainly was something he should not have said. I however am not going to watch the movie even if Anthony Mackie didn’t say it. I do often more blame Disney for screwing up stories and losing their fans, especially when they go woke and try to use the excuse of “YOU FANS ARE JUST BIGOTED, SEXIST, RACIST PEOPLE!” That’s a great way to lose fans overnight. And I could kinda sense that they still have not fully departed from that narrative especially with The Acolyte from Star Wars, The MarvelS, and AHSOKA. So I’m kinda done with big Disney projects. I’ll watch the full video and learn the context of what Anthony Mackie was asked. But fans are tired of political nonsense that happens in these films. So it’s no surprise for people to freak out when something like this is said.
