Epilogue in G Mixolydian
And old composition (like many from Lockdown times), performed by @ComposersOrchestra.
Programme Note:
‘A gentle cello drone. A few simple notes in the viola. Distant raindrops fall as the harp picks up a handful of lost notes. The setup of Epilogue is simple, and almost incomplete in a way. The piece doesn’t try to prepare us for a grand melody or lead up to a pompous finale. It’s an endnote, an afterword. Picking up leftovers and scraps, and being, in essence, as little as it can be. Its structure is split in two and does not allow for reminiscence: Once discarded, the tune does not return; the orchestra fades off into a peaceful cascade of woodwind notes before coming to rest on the final string of the harp. All stories have been told. Nothing is left to say. This was, merely, an epilogue.’
Performed at the Edinburgh Composers’ Orchestra Spring Concert 2024. Conducted by Paul Tollin. Recorded by Ethan James Davies.

Kingdom of the Electrical Knight (Score Video)
มุมมอง 66หลายเดือนก่อน
Where is the Kingdom of the Electrical Knight? Nowhere, probably. It has a sense of mystic romance, pre-wired adventure, and mechanical roses. But-you hear it too?-something is off. The knights are too artificial, the flowers too bold, and the mighty dragon flies with a limp in its wingbeat. And last night, a band of holographic highwaymen came from never and nowhere and stole a quaver from eve...

Beyond the Final Line (Original Soundtrack) M4 A Perfect Ending LINER NOTES A broad statement of the Reconciliation Theme in Strings, Horns, and Clarinets calls out after Nancy as Mark tries to comfort her; but his attempt is futile, and as the characters do not find reconciliation, so does the music lose itself into thin and aimless wanderings around the I-iv alternation in high strings. @@michaelmgoessler I would edit the opening bass vocal, it's too repetitive, distracting, and continues too long, change it to other instruments if you need a beat all the way through, and you could refine the guitar theme and accompaniment could also use a second version and a rework the ending, sounds like you just gave up on the ending.

      I too was amazed at how many avoided that bit. It is a powerful moment that needs care but simply staying silent didn't seem the right choice for me. The part I liked best in this score was that floating card moment.

    • @michaelmgoessler
      @michaelmgoessler 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's curious, there is actually no tremolo in the strings when they get off the bus, but revisiting the scene, I see how the score and sounds effects together would make it sound like a tremolo -- that would be a really interesting way to score it, though! As for the final scene, I think it's very much an artistic choice whether you want to score it or leave it silent, but I thought some more music would be appropriate, especially when you're trying to demonstrate emotional range as a composer (and I'd written a theme for Joey and wanted to use it at least this one time 😜).

    You show more restraint than most composer on this task: you let the scene speak for itself and leave plenty of space so you aren't hogging all the attention. This is very notable when the truck is approaching: you avoid overemphasizing it, and then the melancholy soft music after Joey's death is all the more effective. Very nice!
