Man front side 540s are so freaking tricky. This is because when front side 3s front side sevens. Our super flexible easy to control fries don’t let you get away with nearly as much funk. You need pretty much a perfect access perfect everything honestly to be stomping this trick making it one of the hardest spins in snowboarding. Definitely the hardest 540.

Perfect timing as I was just on the mountain for a couple days in Big Bear & I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t get my Ollies consistently. With a skateboarding background, the dynamic ranges of motion are slightly different because you’re strapped into the board.. So that’s definitely something I’ve been trying to get used to. But I believe the tips you’ve touched on in this video will help me lock in the consistency of my Ollies.. Thanks a lot Taevis! Your teachings are so comprehensive, probably the most comprehensive on the net! Keep em coming! & I hope to ride with you & the Snowboard Addiction team someday! 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
Thanks for sharing Taevis!
No problem!
How do you ollie high enough to get over a SLOW sign?
start working on those thunder thighs
Extending this motion as much as possible. And training! I can do it but I don’t do it often because it’s scary haha
THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS
I feel like these are always perfect timing. I think I have a trick down and then I'll mess it up a couple of times only to find a vid correcting exactly what I was doing wrong. How does he always know??
Hahaha just lucky I guess
Taevis man. So underrated. You're 100% a professional level snowboarder. But you're also super intelligent. It's one thing to have the physical capability of doing all the tricks, but to be able to clearly dictate exactly ALL the minute details that all the tricks entail shows so much intelligence. In my experience asking people how to do things, my conclusion is that these people don't have the intelligence to describe exactly what is happening or they don't want me to learn at all.
Thanks man!!! Not intellectual, I just have coaches myself a lot and thought about these tricks deeper then most riders. A lot of people ride with more feeling then anything else, what makes them not the best coaches. It takes a lot of training to be able to explain what you’re doing. Thanks for all the support! More good stuff to come:)
@@SnowboardingExplained You're the man, still.
they think they look cool touching the snow😂
We have all been there! At least I have for a long time, all part of the learning process:)
Great breakdown, thanks! I sometimes skid out on my toe edge when I land, any tips how to correct this?
Could be a lot of things. Probably leaning forward but hard to say
@@SnowboardingExplained Thanks! i'll try adjusting it next time
wish i had had someone who knew stuff about freestyle when i learned... :) awesome content
awesome vid! So people send you their videos and you critique them. thats dope
Thanks:) and ya basically!
Dude left arm and shoulder is locked in the same spot.
For sure!
If there’s anything that I missed or any suggestions, you’d have to help this rider improve his riding. Please let me know. I’m gonna make it a goal this year to get better reference footage to be able to make these carving tutorials more educational, and since traditional carving is by far the weakest part of my coaching abilities any feedback would be appreciated:)
Hello Taevis! Love the content! I think there are great channels quite didactic like Malcolm Moore or Lars (The just ride) and they focus a lot in carving and technique. I don't mean this to be spam or anything, keep it up! You're videos breaking down tricks are really helpful.
Im wondering if the rider was becoming uncomfortable with the speed and letting themselves wash the transitions to try scrub speed. Perhaps I could suggest a more comprehensive technique to managing speed while carving down steeper terrain.
It might help to do a drill where we set an edge and let an edge take us for a ride while keeping our body stacked on a snowboard, following the natural carve, leaving behind a pencil thin carve. Then add more techniques to spice it up after understanding/mastering what makes a carve work. Maybe. I don't know. I'm not a coach :) I do agree with your assessment of turning too soon after setting a new edge. It is also too easy to move our back foot out to turn. I think one of the main principles of carving is the front foot setting an edge, then back foot does nothing but follow the carving path.
I didn’t think about that, thanks!
For sure! Coach or not those are some great points!
My go-to instructor for park stuff on TH-cam University these days. Thanks for the videos and keep up the great work Taevis!
Thank you so much!!! We are just getting started🙌🏻

Hey Man! Love your channels! I want to ask your about the board I want to buy, I believe you have some experience with it: Nitro Team. I am 200LBS with 275mm mondo feet. What size would you take for 60% all mountain carving / 40% park? 159W or 162W? Also, what is your experience with edge hold on this board? I ride 9/-9 and 12/-6 stance. Thank you in advance!
This thing grips in good! I’ve used a board that was custom made fore a Burton athlete. And this board is the most similar to that feeling I ever felt Makes it a heavy board tho so I’d say 159 wide is as big as you want to go
@@SnowboardingExplained thank you <3
I dont know how to not tail or nose grab! Ive done it for so long that its a muscle memory. As steezy as it is, its hard to unlearn something.
That’s the issue with those grabs, they change how you do the tricks. It’s gonna be a bit annoying but you should go back and re learn your 3 5 with no grab. Fix those mistakes then you can get back to grabbing from there.
HEY THATS TY AT SNOW TRAILS. I recognize that board anywhere.
how long have you snowboarded i have been wanted to start and am wondering how long it will take to get good
I made a video showing every year of my snowboarding. Check out my channel, it’s the only 30 minute video haha
Brilliant analyses as usual. Your combination of skills and ability to teach them is going to take you places in this sport dood! Thanks.
I appreciate that, thank you!
Hey Taevis, I am strongly considering an Addiction subscription. How long does it usually take for an analysis?
I try get to them within 4 days. So 1 to 4 days is the time frame. Is possible to do the free trial and get one and cancel:)

Thanks so much for the help on my 540s 🙏
Anytime! Looking forward to seeing some more good stuff from ya:)
Thanks
Hmmm... I feel like I'm sensing a theme about grabs in the recent few vids.
Might need to make a full video about when to grab and what to grab🤔
Thank you for the feedback! Sadly we haven’t had much snow at all in vegas so my jump options have been super limited but I’ll try and find something better. Thank you for all of the tips on the form, I didn’t notice those errors so it was definitely helpful to hear
Hopefully you get some snow! Glad I managed to give you some new information. Even practicing this at home will do you solid!!!
I actually find that tail grabs make my back 3's super smooth and stable. I think it's because anticipating them causes me to stay stacked instead of bending at the waist when I pop.
I love me a tail grab, that said it’s a grab I can really alter your form to the extent, but if you learn your tricks with tail grab, it might be hard to do the tricks without it because people incorporate changes in the form into your tricks. That’s why you see guys do like backs of tail and spot over her shoulder with a bad access of rotation. So nose tail grabs super fun, highly recommend but learning your tricks out them first.
@@SnowboardingExplained can you please edit. Hard to understand this.
Fair I used text to speech haha. Basically tail grabs alter your form. So if you learn your tricks with them you won’t be able to do other grabs. I try teach tricks in a way that you can build to any trick with any grab. And tail grabs hurt for building those fundamentals. Fun to do but bad for training
Mine feel like I'm trying to cram too much into the spin and missing the landing. Would you say the head should lead?
Make sure your upper body is always leading a rotation the best way to train. This is just at home doing 360s jumping walking them get comfortable with doing the 360 at home leading a fat upper body and it will make it a lot easier when you try on snow. You’re trying to learn as many of these principles as you can off the mountain so when you actually go to the mountain, it happens naturally and you can focus on your takeoff
@ got it. I do some practice at home but find static is actually harder. Your advice helps because when I do them at home the landing is always sketchy. Sometimes I stumble or I over or under spin. Thanks!
Make sure you lead the rotation with your upper body and use counter rotation. Sounds like your keeping upper and lower body too connected.
@@SnowboardingExplained I’ll have to play around with these ideas.
Here we are, it's finally getting juicy 😋 Keep em coming!
Will do!!!

Love this series!!!!

Once again, thank you for going deep into details... I keep learning so much from you. Especially when you reflect on the progression... Because not having a proper instructor I constantly question myself on "what I should do next..." and your videos help me answer this question(build fundamentals)
That is so awesome to hear!!!! Glad that I’m able to share what I learned with you😁
May be in the plans already but I'd love to see a front side windup explained video like the one you did recently for backside.
I gotchu!💪 just got a little sick, but will make it as soon as I can😁
Doing this switch is crazy 🤯
It’s actually easier switch for me. I don’t like front 2s on haha
Love the video! Would you recommend not having any forward lean in your highbacks when you're practicing jumps/ sidehits to avoid too much pressure on the toes? Or is it more preference based
Always have forward lean. Makes it so it takes smaller motions to get edge pressure what is dope. I rock 2 so not much, I don’t know the best amount to be using. But 2 is solid
@@SnowboardingExplained Got it, thanks so much!
Dude please never stop making these! They help so much!

Where is the video from for the summer jumps at the beginning
Japan!
It's not hyperbole to say that you've definitely saved at least a few ppl from breaking bones by showing these vids. By a few ppl I definitely mean me. Edit: Idk if you're gonna go over this later but I noticed that you used to do the same arm flailing during spins that I do now. How did you train yourself to stop that? I don't do it in practice spins on the ground but in the air I look like wacky inflatable arm tube guy.
arm flailing alwaays happens for a reason. and that reason is to rebalance. so if you find yourself needing to move your arms that means you needed to shift your body in the air to make it back to your feet. This happens because of something on your take-off, or head postioning most of the time
@SnowboardingExplained thanks a bunch. Gonna try to keep a clear mental thought to pay attention to imbalance on takeoff, which I would assume is just breaking at the waist at work.
Usually the main cause. But anything can cause that unbalance in the air
great tips much appreciated!!
