Hey! My name is Casey. I’m an avid off-road enthusiast and owner of Snowbound Customs! Subscribe to the channel for content that revolves around my personal long traveled 3rd Gen 4Runner. Visit my website below for links to many of the products I use on this build. Some products are items I fabricate my self and others are fabricated by a variety of vendors across the nation!
USB Power Mod (Ash Tray Replacement) - 3rd Gen 4Runner
3rd Generation 4Runner rear USB power mod! This powder coated bezel replaces the rear ash tray on the center console and allows you to mount a power source that has both USB-C and USB-A outlets. Both of these outlets have fast charging and will charge your phones at the maximum speed that they allow. This works for 96-02 4Runners.
For this mod, you will need the following items. Note that many of these items can be purchased at automotive or hardware stores in smaller quantities for cheaper than these Amazon links but you do get the benefit of getting them in much larger quantities on Amazon to use for future projects.

I approve
Yep. My 35s on my 4runner eats up bearings.
So I could sell my 5th gen and take that money and buy a cheap 3rd or 4th gen and then long travel that
What was the shop you took it to? Can’t find “MC Customs” in the phone book or google?
@@420poptartz it’s MZ Customs. They don’t have a website. Send me a message on Instagram and I will send you their info
Any chance you got the measurements from each hole?
how much would it be to have it installed on a 2002 toy 4runner?
I raised my rear shock mounts . It wasmt to hard . I bought 100 mm steel pipe . Capped the top and put a hole in it for the shock bolt . Then I drilled a hole in the original shock mount using a 100 mm hole saw . Then you just push the new mount up and weld it in. I made a mistake of tacking it while it was on the lift which ment the new mount angle was wrong. Only tack it when the wheels are on the ground .
I NEVER COMMENT ON VIDEOS, but I genuinely think that Snowbound Customs, TimmyTheToolman, and Opt-Offroad are doing amazing work for the Toyota Offroad community. I purchased a pair of Seat Accessory Molle Panels awhile back off the Snowbound Cumstoms website and the service I received was incredible! During the install process I noticed a small spacer was missing from the package. I sent an email about the confusion and within an hour they had already shipped out the missing part free of charge. Not only that, but when I received the new package they had included some of their prototype light mounts! That level of customer care is unheard of, especially with the boom in Toyota aftermarket manufactures and how big they have become. This guy cares about these trucks and about the people in this community.
I usually adjust my preload as I’m airing down (if I remember). I like it a lil stiffer on the road.
Seems like in the end just going SAS is the better route especially if doing all the work yourself.
It really just depends on what your uses are in my opinion! Both can be equally expensive. SAS for rocks and LT for speed. A lot of people get LT for rocks because they thinks it’s cheaper unfortunately
Nicly done man. 3d printed my adapter for that same you have going there there.
The price needs to come way down.
So you could've started by saying you dont know, plus 9yrs of owning it. Resulting in, still dont know how long they last.
Do you guys not make the drawers anymore?
Sweet runner, what did you do for lift?
When will the update be dropping? Looking forward to it
@@rO-sg5xl it has taken longer than I anticipated to get parts for the cantilever. 4WU just shipped all of the joints to me but I’m still awaiting the rest of the parts such as links and cantilever parts. Hopefully soon!
The kit on your website says it comes w/ LEDs but in the video you use Xenon projectors?
@@thediddlefiddler5569 this is an older video now. I’ve updated the kit to be much more cost effective, use less parts, and these new LEDs are brighter and more reliable
@@SnowboundCustoms nice. Ok. Now, take my money.
ok fine. take my money.
Love it, need to do to mine soon
Long travel will cost $20k if done with good parts and all new parts
Why own a nice car if your not the one to work on it? 😂😂 it's such a easy job all you need is couple wrenches and jack stands
What is the name of the song in this video??
Really well done instructional video. Can you do a dual battery setup video?
Excellent video, just ordered my install kit. Excited for this upgrade/update
Did you cut the front fender also)
Also like any vehicle. If your gonna be jumping you need frane reinforcements and you should run a roll cage. No vehicle is meant to jump from the factory and you will crack your body and bend your frame. Dont forget you should run an axle truss too.
I build prerunners for a living. Nothing and i mean nothing about building a prerunner is cheap. Even doing the work yourself.
Another solid video, Casey. Just straight to the point with everything! We released a portable jump starter pack. Can we invite you to do a review? We have emailed for an inquiry.
Such a badass 4runner. Is it V8 swapped? What differential and gear ratio do you have to run those big tires?
@@fivefivesix-sevensixtwo4114 stock V6, 5.29 gears but currently in the process of swapping the rear for a ford 9” and cantilevered suspension!
So the adapter is sold separately and not together with the 12v usb unit ?
The only parts I sell is the parts I designed and manufacture myself. The parts I sell includes the front powdercoated plate, the rear mounting plate, two Allen keys, mounting hardware for the plates and also upgraded mounting hardware for the usb unit. That’s all included in the kit I sell. The usb unit I used for this is available on Amazon and linked in the description!
@@SnowboundCustoms ok got it looks great thanks
So you only have a 3in lift then
What was the new power supply that the last plug connected to?
@@Art-cq1zy that plug is for the wire going to the fuse tap that I installed on the ACC fuse. And the other wire goes to ground. I grounded it using a bolt directly under the console
Friendly Advice: You don't want wave your camera back and forth around like crazy when you're trying to show something. For example: At 2m40s you start the Switches section and you wave the camera back and forth like a hummingbird darting around. The viewer never gets a pause or a rest to take in what is being looked at. Instead, it just makes you sea sick. What to Do Instead: As a learning exercise, try shooting that same sequence (I want to show you the interior of the dashboard) in as many different ways as possible. (1) Panning. Try holding the camera in the driver's head position and rotating it through one a single plane of motion only, like right to left, without any up and down movement at all. Review these shots afterward and make some notes about what gets blocked or isn't shown well using just this single panning shot. Try a couple different speeds, very slow to very fast. Next, try doing this panning shot where you stop abruptly on maybe 3 key focal points, like the left, the center of the instrument cluster, and right. Finally, try to pause on the same 3 key focal points but instead of stopping abruptly try to ease-in and ease-out of the pauses so it isn't an abrupt stop. (2) Dolly shot. Now that you have taken the time to review all those panning shots to see what you like and don't like, try holding the camera in the one position and moving slowly from left to right at a fixed rate of motion, all the way from the driver door pillar to the passenger one. Think of it like moving a fixed camera along a rail. The way a pro does this shot is to use a rigid rail, mount the camera on wheels, and pull the camera along the rail; a dolly shot. You want to mimic this smooth motion/look. Try the same shot where you go at different speeds. And then again, try the tracking shot where you choose 3 points of interest and ease-in, ease-out of pausing on those. How long do you pause? There is a too long and a too short answer to this question. (3) Tracking. After reviewing those dolly shots, think about what you learned about what works and doesn't work when you don't pan the camera while moving left to right. Now combine the two, where you gradually track along a single line, focusing on 3 focal points of interest by panning left to right as you track the camera's position from left to right along a single line. The movement should be fluid and slow, like you're underwater, and you should pause long enough for the viewer to take in what you want to show them without waiting so long that the viewer loses interest. This seems like a lot of homework but I promise you if you practice these things a few times as an experiment while being focused only on the results, you will start to do these things naturally without trying too hard. And your videos' production quality will look professional and polished. You have great content! Your camerawork will reflect the same attention to detail.
Hey love the video I have the exact same setup in my 4runner right now, I was wondering where u bought your power connectors so because I want to be able to disconnect the charger if I need to?
@@randomdemand8455 I got mine at AutoZone. They are kinda pricey there so I recommend getting a pack of 10 on Amazon
Hey Casey! I remember an old back up camera I had having to somehow wire into my e-brake for it to work. It doesn't seem like that's the case with this one; is that right and it plugs right into the back of the head unit? I have a very similar head unit that has the rear camera button as well, so I'm hoping it's really this easy! TIA, sir!
@@markrummans1532 many head units like the one I have have a video cable plug on it. This backup camera and many others just plug right into the head unit. There is also a wire coming out of my head unit that connects to the reverse wire on the camera wiring harness so the camera will come on when I put the car in reverse! I’m pretty sure almost all head units with a camera connection should have the same plug
@@SnowboundCustoms Thank you, sir!
Well that's cool, I drive a 1995 ford ranger 2.3L and I have 350, 685 thousand miles all original. Keep the old ones alive. Love these 4runners.

Lowball shop and labour costs.
I hate the ride quality in my Camry, I couldn't imagine bouncing my head to the roof in that 4 Runner.
Very interesting, but I don't need it. I just use long charging cables running from a cigarette lighter adapter along the floorboard between the passenger seat and the center console, and they reach slightly past the back seats in total length.
How’s the maintenance on these rigs? Deciding make one a daily driver but not sure if it’s worth it
@@H3y45 you always have your typical maintenance items like you would with any other car such as brakes, timing belt etc but I’ve found that they tend to just keep going, even when abused. Mine has 320k miles, my dad has one (original owner) with 410k miles and another one (also original owner) with 210k miles. Never had a catastrophic failure yet!
What is your mpg?
I know off topic but how long did your front bumper from addicted off road take ?
