Al Bowlly on guitar, can't confirm if though. I'm currently looking for the rejected Parlophone test with a different band. Written by Hoagy Carmichael & Mitchell Parish 1927. Star Dust by Don Barrigo & his Hawaiian Swing was recorded August 22, 1938 London, England. Matrix are CE-2978-1 with the Parlophone label. Wow. I've never heard the version with Claude Ivy in such a clear quality. Thank you so much!
One of my favourate Bowlly songs to sing. You forgot to add the version on Decca by Al Bowlly with pianoforte accompaniment by Claude Ivy
was there a different take?
@alternateunreleasedshellac505 no it was a separate recording, with only Al and Ivy. It's the only version that includes the verse and it is sung at a more slow ballad pace
@@Oldtimemusiclover oh, that's in the video.
@alternateunreleasedshellac505 oh my bad! Sorry I guess I missed it somehow Cheers! :)
Not that much to choose. I wish you'd juxtaposed the alternatives, to save hopping between, but I think A has it. Nice work, anyway.
A i think but both sound OK to me
I Prefer A
thanks!
PLEASE tell me the name of this song?
after my laughter came tears
i refuse 🦞
I won't ignore this, it's a great graphic and a great little tune
you dont tell me what to do
Michele Obama would love this video!
Hey what’s this?
A video I made for the graphic as a demo.
No
cute song :D
I AINT IGNORIN BRO
HAHA! IM WATCHING THIS AND YOU CANT STOP MEEEEEE
here before this blows up and is in fact not ignored
I’m watching this and you can’t stop me
nah i think im not gonna ignore
I haven't heard this one before, thanks for the collection
I wasn't given a choice
do you think Prozoot would mind if I used this image?
No
should I not use this image? Would you consider it stealing from Prozoot?
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505 no I think this image is fine!
Nipper's song?
Pretty nice song!
Cool
thanks!
song is by Billy Bartholomew
On the contrary, I can't ignore, it's quite enjoyable
I heard this in a movie once, didn't know there was other covers of this amazing song
i love the "snid phillips" in the description.
Sind Phillips
Would you be able to upload the full version?
I don't know to be honest, the guy who owns it isn't the fastest.
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505Ok, thanks for the response.
Even though it's nice this is realesed on a CD now it's unfortunate that's it's not free :(
Actual unobtanium, I’d love a copy of this. I’m not willing to pay the £1000+ price tag though.
Absolutely ridiculous. 78s shouldn't cost more than 5 - 30£ imo.
Most interesting side, albeit still in the old-fashoined medium tempo; it wasn't until the early 40's that bandleaders (and indeed composer Hoagy Carmichael himself) discovered that this tune actually works much better when played as a slow ballad.
Didn't Bunny Berigan do it as a ballad in 1936?
@@genghisron9876 That was indeed a slower version but still almost "medium" tempo; check it out on TH-cam.
The cover Turner Layton played as a piano solo medley in 1936 is wonderful, give that a listen.
@genghisron9876 No, Bunny also played it in a slow medium tempo.
@@Wolfganger That is not a band recording, but yes, it's very nice (although it's only part of a record; combined with "Sophisticated Lady") although Layton, again, doesn't play it as a ballad.
Still crazy how this song was supposed to be lost to time considering this record with the same label was produced less than the other records by Al Bowlly, and is now remembered with TH-cams archives with videos, and due to the Caretakers EATEOT. I find it ironic how a project about forgetting things makes you find once forgotten songs remembered by the people of the past.
absolutely
Beautiful.
AL Bowlly recorded a vocal of Stardust around 1938 -But, it has been lost - How sad is that
It's probably locked up in the EMI archives.
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505 Let us hope so
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505I now have started an interest in collecting lost media records and preserving them. Hope a copy can be found in the future.
Nice to hear Al Bowlly singing (with his usual velvet voice) this Irving Berlin song, introduced by Fred Astaire in movie "Carefree". Many thanks for posting.
No Al 😳
It was edited in, on the later LP reissue. This what the people in 1938 heard on broadcast.
Isn’t this $1000 USD? Crazy
yes lmao
sounds like the radio version of lew stone favorites
It is! It's called something like "Thursday Night"
@@alternateunreleasedshellac505"Ten thirty Tuesday night" which was when Lew broadcast from the Monseigneur each week.
It can and should be cleaned up - I may have heard (in part) this recording on LP -but far from the whole broadcast - it is worth releasing on CD - surviving broadcasts are rare - more so when it is the likes of Lew Stone and Al Bowlly
Absolutely... it sounds like crap lmao
Sorry for the bad sound quality. Found this on a random website, have no idea where it came from of & who captured it. Thought I'd share it here anyways.
I recognize some of the songs in this "Minnie The Moocher" "Georgia On My Mind" "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" Then there seems to be little snips of other songs intertwined as well
Jim Easton sings “Goofus”
Seems to be 1932...
Where was this found? Any other information about this record? Can you send me the file so I can try and clean it up?
nevermind, found it. I'll send you this + additional Al Bowlly audio files.
@alternateunreleasedshellac505 thank you:)
Somebody claimed that Al Bowlly sang & recorded "Run, Rabbit, Run" on Broadcast with Geraldo and his Orchestra.
Great photographs - many have never viewed- wonderful song brought to life by Geraldo and the one and only Al Bowlly
The full broadcast survived and is 30 or so minutes long. I'm not at the liberty to know if it would be appropriate to post it though.
Every image taken the same year, 1938. Al's giving singing lessons in that photo with the cigar!
I am delighted to hear it has survived @@alternateunreleasedshellac505

🥺❤
That last version was used in the Saville Records (SVL 168) LP reissue, but with vocal refrain by Al Bowlly.
❤!!!
OK, nice but Al Bowlly looks disturbing because I have never saw him have a mustache before, and he kinda looks handless
somebody in the 1930s edited this photograph, since the base player was out of focus. And added the mustache to Al Bowlly for some odd reason..
Oh now i know
Trying to learn this song but the only problem is getting the proper Affrikaans words :)
