Reading Horror Stories Alone in the Dark
Horror books typically freak me out, but considering it's Halloween I decided to listen to some horror books while walking around my neighborhood at night dressed in the scariest costume imaginable (an abandoned draft).
In this Halloween Special I managed to read The Call of Cthulhu, the Fall of the House of Usher, The Yellow Wallpaper, and I read a short 100-word story of my own out loud.
While I did not have time this time, I would like to do a 24-hour horror reading challenge in the future so please leave me some horror book, novella, or short story recommendations! Thank you!

Writing and Drinking Like Ernest Hemingway
มุมมอง 416วันที่ผ่านมา
Apparently, Ernest Hemingway did not drink while he wrote or drink mojitos, which would have been nice to know before I started filming this episode of Writing and Drinking Like Famous (Alcoholic) Authors. Oh well! After exploring the life story of Ernest Hemingway I realize there was so much I didn't know about him (other than the fact he was actually a Daiquiri man). After reading The Snows o...
Creating A Writing Schedule | The Road to Publishing My First Book [Writing Vlog]
มุมมอง 12014 วันที่ผ่านมา
I created a writing schedule for myself because I have not been making the best use of my time recently. Beyond staying up too late I've also found that I have been focusing way too hard on social media as opposed to actually writing. In my new schedule I am looking to balance my time between, writing, game development, content creation, and my overall wellness.

After coming up with a solution for many of my book's problems I realized I needed to "restart" writing my book. Fortunately, due to the nature of my work in progress and how it is a series of short stories that stand alone, the damage was not as great as it could have been. I am behind the writing schedule I set for myself, but not too far behind! In fact, with a good November, I may be able t...

Coding My Own Author Website | The Road to Publishing My First Book [Writing Vlog]

I coded my own author website and hosted it on a Raspberry Pi 4! While I still have a while to go before my book is ready to be published, I figured it would be a fun idea to build my author website now. While it would have been a lot easier to just build a WordPress site, I thought coding and hosting the site would give me a better resume project. Creating this author site was so much trickier...

So if I wrote my own story about Harry Potter would that be considered fan fiction?
@@Vampyre618 yes. That’s exactly what fanfiction is!
I agree with you. I've been doing NaNoWriMo on and off since 2003. Last year was my last time participating. This year I'm writing a novel, but not participating with their website. If a person feels that it's OK to use generative AI to write, fine. But I don't think that counts as writing 50k words yourself. The challenge is not to generate a book but to write one.
Same. Its like unlimited entertainment
Heres the start to mine haha The air was electric with panic, the sky choked with dark clouds as monstrous roars ripped through the city. Buildings trembled under the weight of destruction, their foundations cracking like brittle bones. People surged through the streets, faces pale and wide-eyed, their screams a haunting melody of terror that echoed off the crumbling walls.
which forums are still open?
@@billgriggs8768 I actually have no idea, I don’t really associate with NaNoWriMo
You dont need a company to help you write in November🙄
I do it on my own all the time. This year I challenged myself to write 50k in a year!
Supposedly after one of those plans crashes he was presumed dead until he walked out of the jungle two days later holding a bottle of rum.
If that’s true that’s honestly so badass

So here’s the thing… I’ve never done NaNoWriMo before and this is my first year. I’m really excited to try, and I’m going to use the site. I don’t plan on participating in the forums since I don’t like social media a ton anyways. I’m really just using it to track my words as a way to motivate myself. I get that there have been issues, but like you said, there’s issues everywhere. I’ve been raised to be very cautious online and never use my real name/give information anyways. Best of luck to all those writers out there and stay safe!
I never did the forms or camps; i just did Nanowrimo. I’ll do it this year too. But might stop afterwards

Well this might be an excellent addition to your resume, as long as you know the content won't influence what eventual employers think about you xD Also I'm really glad you talked about using chatGPT and how it CAN'T do all the work correctly for you.
@@demoncorrupted6164 I’ll try to keep the content mostly appropriate, lol
Congratulations! I could never write that much in a day 😅
Yeah, I guess it's normal that you didn't really get spooked while walking around... And you can't really do a "walking at night listening to horror stories... As a woman!" Because, well, ya know. But I went on an audiobook walk last night and my gosh it was so unnerving to not know where the noise was coming from, and walking past people (I'm petite and probably kidnappable) That, and walking on campus at night: there's a freak who dot kicked out on the dormitories and last night I found out the guards now have to look around with flashlights to make sure he isn't around! Didn't even need a scary audiobook, with all that 😶
Yeah, I also live in a safe neighborhood. There are def neighborhoods where I would have been mugged 😂 It sucks that you have to worry about walking at night as a woman 😔
i was about to comment about that weird guy who followed you throughout the entire timelapse, but then you said it yourself. Btw, would love to hear more of your own writing.
Thanks, I like to share it but I’m terible at reading out loud
I could never get involved with the whole "nanowrimo community" because I don't vibe with all the annoying wokeshit.

So true! They should be encouraging people to write themselves, not to say it's okay to use AI to write your book if you want to... especially if you are disabled... Great video, and nice to meet you. I shared a much shorter less detailed video about this as well.
I feel like it would have been better to talk about how it’s ok to set smaller goals!
such a great video and u explained hemmingway’s life very deeply and delicately 🤍 the best authors always seem to have the most tragic stories of their own. i am so excited for this series!!
Omg that means so much coming from you! I love your channel!
this is also happened to Tolkien while he’s writing or trying to write The Silmarillion, he already had some of the stories planned since he was at the trench of WW1 (The Fall of Gondolin and Beren & Luthien) but he keeps changing it, revised it, before actually write the first book in the middle-earth saga, The Hobbit (which funnily enough he intend to wrote it only for his children) then he start making sequel that we now know as The Lord of the Rings, and at that time he was also planning to publish The Silmarillion at the same time during mid 50s, but the publishers keep rejecting it, and Tolkien never be able to satisfy either his publishers or himself for that matter (he even trying to rewrote The Hobbit to fit more with the tone of The Lord of the Rings), so many pages, notes, scrap, but he never finished it until the day he passed away, his son, Christopher collected many of his father works and publish it (still…not finish), The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, alongside the 12 Volume of History of Middle-earth and the Three Great Tales of the First Age now i don’t know if George could ever finished A Dream of Spring (the planned 7th and final book after Winds of Winter) but i do hope someday at least his family or someone close to him will be able to collect those “unfinished” book and publish it, so at least we get something out of it rather than nothing
It’s speculated that he was gay or bi, but couldn’t accept it, and that’s why he did so much womanizing and “manly” stuff. And as a straight male, daiquiris are delicious. But I do prefer rum and Diet Coke or straight rum. Vodka too. Edit: Like the idea of the series. It’s a different take on famous authors instead of the standard documentary video. Maybe you could put up the recipes for the drinks.
Haha no hate for Daiquiris. It’s just interesting considering his other life choices! I didn’t do enough research to comment on the gay or bi part, but it would have to be bi. I can’t see a gay man cheating on his wife with another woman 3 times 😂
I was thinking the same thing. Seems like a lot of hassle to have so many affairs if you don’t like women.
Much love from a old friend, I just found this TH-cam and I can not believe how well put together these videos are. Class channel
Aye, thanks man!
I have autism, the type of autism where I have to actively work to put any of my thoughts into words, and I'm genuinely insulted by what they said. It does suck to not be able to create what I want to, both in terms of writing and visual arts, but I'd much rather keep my ideas in my head than ever exploit another author's work. As someone who would actually benefit from AI as an accessibility tool, NaNoWriMo's statement is bullshit.
@@The_Blanket_Dragon they really thought no one would call them out…
This was going to be my first one I was planning on doing. After hearing about the controversies it kinda killed some of the motivation but still wanted to write. So now a buddy and I are going to try writing all month together and just see how far we go. Crunch time to get 50k words I know is a big part of it, but having a kid now I have a lot less time and going at a slower pace with one of my friends sounds like an enjoyable time which could help me get better writing time management moving forward out of November.
Yeah it does take some if the fun out of it :( The word count is fun tho!
One of my projects just can't be playlisted rn it's so annoying! I might try chatgpt, not a bad idea!

To me, editing is doing renovations on the old crooked manor I built. First fix the structure and make sure it holds up. Then put walls, windows and doors. Finally add paint and start decorating! :3

@patrick_nilan well I really appreciate your videos. It took me a while before listening to them, but lately, everything is so fast-paced and content is shoved down our throats at an overwhelming rate. I really needed to slow down and you're kind of a big help with that! : ]
Congrats on this big milestone!
I need to get my writing schedule under control lol idk what it is anymore, but I feel like it's all over the place, and I feel like maybe I'm not writing enough
@@alkimia1791 that’s exactly how I felt!
Honestly one week for each short story would make sense, but you could make it two or three per week to go faster 🤔
the idea was to really perfect one in that week. lots of rewrites!
I've started experimenting imposter syndrom recently, it was the first time, but I kind of repressed that - oops Still you sound like you have the right mentality about it though!
I've never brainstormed to write... do you get as attached to those ideas as to the ones that pop up more naturally?
wdym?
@patrick_nilan well, I personally find it harder to get really enthusiastic about an idea that I have to intentionally create, while the ones that just appear with time become a natural part of my writing process. I was wondering if you have that problem or not?
I learned proper typing in elementary school, forgot it, then got it back by muscle memory. Now I type so fast i scare people, but i type faster than i can come up with words xD Also the job struggle, ugh.... need job to write. Need experience for job. Need job for experience. Aand of course working means less time to write :(((
I don't mean this negatively at all but it's nice to see another writer who doesn't have all their shwt together/figured out! Like... actual humans can be writers too :]
I definitely do not have it all together! It's more fun that way!

@@kiwitealc5353 anotha!
Patrick, first of all, it was a fun video to watch, I've been following your content for a while and I'm eagerly awaiting your book's release. I have something to say about this, you probably know it very well but I still wanted to mention it. Marketing a book is much more important than writing it and editing it a million times to make it perfect. In fact, if you can market a book well, you don't even need to have written a good book, unfortunately that's the case. One of my close friends wrote a book and published it on Amazon, I was her beta reader, and although I thought the book was great, she couldn't afford to market it, so she only sold 12 copies, or rather gave them away for free. So when your book is released (I'm sure it will be very entertaining and literaryly satisfying), you should allocate budget and time to marketing it. I wish you success.
thank you for the comment. I 100% agree with you. Marketing a book is essential and it is the biggest disadvantage indue authors have compared to trad authors. However, (And I acknowledge I am beyond lucky), I have in an incredible series of events been able to earn 90,000 followers on Instagram, 4000 on TikTok, and 2400 on TH-cam. Obviously, that does not guarantee success, but it is an incredible starting point. I fear I'm simply committing too much to social media/marketing and not enough to writing. At this current stage in my process, I just feel I'm further along in marketing skills then actual writing skills. My aim moving forward is to produce the same level of content (or even level up) while putting in less time! I'm mostly aiming to replace procrastination (in the form of binge writing content) with writing!
I am honestly planning (assuming I get a job) on spending around 4k on the Op Ark initial release with half of that going into editing, a quarter going into cover art/3d assets, and then the rest for marketing campaigns. idk if that is reasonable but that is my current idea?!
@@patrick_nilanThis sounds pretty effective, and considering the social media influence, I see no reason for it to fail. You got it!

Hell no to Generative AI for writing books! It's goes against all that writing truly is.
I'm not participating in NaNoWriMo, but instead I've set up a new event with one of my best writing friends: The Golden Quill Month, in which the progress of ALL parts of the writing process are front and center. So, if you want to write lore or build your world, work on characters, art, maps, storylines, it's all welcome in this event. Just not Generative AI. :D We always felt NaNoWriMo was a fun challenge, but just not that quite fitting for us. With this new event we still work on our writing projects, but all milestones count, instead of only word count goals. Enjoy whichever one you choose! I wish you a lot of fun writing!
