This is the product I’ve been working on over the last 9 months - myTMJ Pen. It’s basically a heated massager for jaw pain therapy(check out last video for more info). But as simple as it is in theory, it’s crazy how much harder it is to push something like this past prototype and into real paying customer’s hands. Something I’ve never tried until now.
And nothing represents the struggle more than the electronics, because before starting this journey, I barely touched circuits. But I’m happy to say that in this episode, we bring our PCB design past the finish line, as we deal with redesigning it against failure modes.
Basically here’s where our fully working prototype is at right now. We have our vibration motor, which runs off a boost converter. We have our heating element powered by the battery along with a thermistor for sensing. Both of which are driven by these MOSFET circuits. This along with indicator LEDs are all controlled by the microcontroller. And finally we have all the battery management circuits, USB port, connectors, buttons and all that.
Put together, we have a functioning device. So what’s stopping me from shipping it? For context, the user is going to be using the metal tip to dig into their TMJ and surrounding muscle tissue. So you know what would be really bad? If for some reason the heating element got stuck on and burned them.
Yeah. After thinking about the law suits, I got reaaaal serious about taking another look at my circuit design, so that after making a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand of these things, no one would get burned. I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

It’s just heat and vibration with a tip designed to dig into jaw muscle tissue. Very effective for myofascial jaw pain and for some reason doesn’t exist yet.

Good stuff, eagerly awaiting getting to try it in real life as I sit here massaging my jaw. Just a couple suggestions: you should do some brainstorming on a name, snatch a domain, and create a business email with that domain that forwards to your personal email so that people can reach out to you. Additionally you could create a simple homepage linking to your videos here on TH-cam as well as a place to put in your email address and you can start accruing a wait-list. Can also consider raising potential funding from a kickstarter scenario or private investors if you get to the point where you actually do want to scale up a bit or want to improve the materials/design in some way that would be otherwise cost prohibitive but could improve the product enough to be worthwhile. Keep up the good work, very interesting stuff!

Ngl both feel like ads I wouldn't give a second thought to. Basically, they're just what you'd expect to see on insta/tiktok. The second one does have more to it as those who stay beyond the first few seconds are likely to be interested. I actually liked the part where you explained how you use it. You're more likely to get attention if people realise that they can actually benefit from your product and that they're missing out and that is exactly how that made me feel. Best of luck Noam.
