Thanks for this video. I have this problem in 4 bay windows in my flat. Does removing the lath minimise any structural stability or was this just a way to allow the thick original plaster to be applied? Could I use a mineral wool insulation like Knauf instead of the XPS boards and would that also be effective? Would using Jackoboard instead of plasterboard reduce breathability? What board did you use on the ceiling?

Good video, nicely presented. How did you deal with the gap between the underside of the floor boards and the ceiling below? Or is their still cold air blowing/getting under the floor?

Nice job , my advice, test for Asbestos every single plasterboard, some where made and mixed of white asbestos, I’m not talking about Artex , but actual plasterboard, there’s so much that people don’t know in this world.

Unless the house is bone dry at all times there is no way mould is not growing behind the plasterboard. Will be warm for a while but everyone is getting mould growth already behind biards, as seen in plenty other vids. I have a new build, full of mould in the insulation behind plasterboard, I have a 1900s terrace with no insulation sash windows, timber floors and zero mould or mildew. Which house is colder by 10 degrees in winter ❄😉

I’m currently renovating a property for a customer and have done lots PIR and definitely lots of acoustic ceilings for them due to noisy upstairs neighbours.

What is the 6mm insulation board (what is it called) as I can’t seem to find any online or in merchants

nice work. can you fix this insulated board to a plastered wall with cavity . wall has a 4" cavity with 2" insulation. house is 20 years old. wall is in good condition only cold in winter. walls are plastered blockwork.

If i approached my private landlord with this issue no doubt they'd just ignore it because they cba getting it done and spending the time and money

Great job mate! Question, I'd like to insulate my external hallway wall and landing, could I do this using the 10mm tile backer board? Was planning on using 25mm pir with 9.5mm plasterboard but space is an issue unfortunately. Also would this give a better thermal performance than thermal wallpaper? Thanks

Is that inner insulation one of those foam cement boards thats used for tiling bathrooms etc, if so, can you skim directly on it or so you have to seal it 1st?

very interesting, i've not actually seen a lathe or single skin bay yet. Most of them around Blackpool are brick on outside and brick on edge on the inside.. and they're always usually full of some debris which adds to damp issues. Also i always thought those boards were for tiles only, had no idea you could skim onto them. I really think internal and external wall insulation on older properties will be a big part of construction moving forward, so definitely worth learning it all. Great video

Great stuff buddy. What would you do to an old 50’s cavity wall build with no internal cavity insulation? Don’t know whether to go full External Wall Insulation all around the house, or since it’s a full renovation, remove all the old sand and cement off the walls and do something that way… but what, is the question? Don’t want to lose too much floor space.

Architect who specialises in conservation here. This building looks like it is over 100 years old. By using a PIR product you are actually increasing the risk of damp by moving the dew point to the internal face of the wall. Before you do this seek advice from a professional, preferably from someone who understands the chemistry and physics of old homes. I can see in the video the room was battened. A better solution would be to remove battens, insulate with a wood fibre product and lime plaster

hi, can I put dampstop warlock paper ( foil ) onto a bay window which has recently had plastering done ( gypsum? or should I put that plaster board you mentioned instead

I've just had a quote from a specialist insulation company and they said they wouldn't insulate around the windows or the windowsill. They said they would leave the wooden trim around the window and the insulation would be rounded off back to the edge of the trim. This doesn't sound right to me. Any advice?

To stop damp dont repoint house built in lime mortar with sand and cement and same goes for render on inside. Simple

Hi, do you have to insulate internal walls that joint two properties. I’ve been doing a little project in my loft and battened a wall which joins to my neighbours and haven’t insulated the wall just covered in plywood to hide the wall. It’s a mid terrace house with solid walls no cavity. Will this be okay and not cause condensation or is it only walls that come into contact with the outside that are prone to condensation

Nice job. My radiator pipes don't go under the floor, they go around the room. Pain in the ass. How would I insulated a wall with those pipes in the way?

Now I might be mad, but I am insulating a whole wall with these now. reason, I do want to improve the insulation value in a little office room, but the layout does not allow for thick insulation on the internal wall due to the door position. These seem to be my only options in thickness. I hope the effort is worth it.

Wasn't clear. So u had the damp, did u have to break the palster and replaster and then to this insulation and then skim or did u just have you just wipe the mold. And then do the cork coating?
