      Good Evening - thank you! The Insulation Test (INS) is designed for to be similar to a Megohmeter test which will test the insulation to ground. While a motor can have a good insulation to ground, but it can fail phase-to-phase, and vise versa, which is why we measure Resistance between phases, dynamic rotor/stator health, and just as important for breakdown of insulation is the contamination test (DF/C or Dissipation Factor and Capacitance).

    A few observations/opinions: #1: I've used FilterMags for years and I'm one of those fellows who cuts open their filters to see what's in there after a change. From these inspections, I can tell you that FilterMags absolutely do what they're represented to do. #2: Ferrous particles (iron and steel) are the hardest and most abrasive of any of the "wear metals" sloughed off by an engine, therefore most beneficial to remove. #3: What is removed/isolated are not "particles" or "shavings" or "filings" or anything close to what most people mean by those words. They are not naked-eye visible. Various TH-cam opinions by Scotty Kilmer and others that the oil filter takes care of them are wrong. From my observations/inspections (see below) it is apparent that they are small enough to pass right through the filter media. The appearance of the captured/isolated material is a fine gray paste. I have no method to determine micron-size but I am reminded of Arco's infamous graphite oil from the 1970's. Arco used specially engineered graphite particles so fine they passed right through the filter media. That's the kind of fine-ness were talking about here. (Except graphite is soft. Ferrous iron and steel are hard and abrasive) In addition to observing that material clinging to the filter wall, I've removed the filter media and stretched it out. I carefully and conscientiously moved a strong magnet over the media for several minutes including all creases, peaks and flats. I was very throrough about it. What that magnet picked up was so close to zero I might as well call it zero. I'm no scientist but I think a reasonable surmise is that this material is so fine it passes right through filter media...similar to Arco's graphite. Clearly, the filter media picked up none of it. The FilterMag did all the work. FWIW...these observations from daily-driver 2018 Subaru 3.6R with about 80,000 miles. (Oil/filter changes each 6,000. Purolator Boss. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.) My UOA's are better than any I have ever seen from any source. In particular, my iron, other "wear-metals" and "insolubles" are consistently better than any others I've seen. If I bought a new car tomorrow, I'd slap FilterMags on it as soon as I drove it home. Simple, easy, they don't wear out....and they do exactly what they're represented to do. Do they make a difference in engine longevity/reliability? I don't have the wherewithal to undertake the testing that would answer that question. They surely do seem like a good idea to me, though. I will continue to use.

      Hi Ivan - it could be a number of things but try a different battery and then reboot it. If that doesn't work, remove the SD card and see if that changes anything. Great video, but how do you decide when to use the lock temp scale feature or not?

    • @ietechnologies72
      @ietechnologies72 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @Johnfsu - it's not so much a question of when to lock the temp scale or not, it's more of a matter of awareness of what that scale is set at relative to the target you're inspecting. If you're looking at the drive end side of a motor that should be between 110-150F but there is other equipment running hotter in the field of view like a boiler or kiln, you'll want to adjust your field-of-view to eliminate the back temperatures, or lock the scale around the motor temperatures in order to see only thermal details on the asset you're inspecting. I hope that helps!

      Unfortunately, the T6xx-Series (T620, T640, etc) is a completely different physical-sized camera and has a different detector inside it. You can still use FLIR Tools to generate reports if you can find the download for it but it has been discontinued and replaced by Thermal Studio. Besides those enhancements (routing capability, etc), the E75 and E76 are nearly identical cameras but the E75 is no longer being sold.

  • @philipfarnam6013
    @philipfarnam6013 ปีที่แล้ว

    FWIW...what I know: I use them and I know from examination of my own filters that they work as-represented. I also know that ferrous/magnetic particles (iron and steel) are the hardest/most abrasive of the wear-metals in circulating engine oil. What I don't know: Whether or not it really matters in the greater scheme of engine wear over time. Seems like a good idea to me...quite easy and convenient. I will continue. The particles trapped are not "shavings" at all but microscopically tiny things that present as a paste or slurry trapped on the inside walls of the used filter...as shown in the many videos available. I wish the various video "reviews" would show the nature of this material and measure fhe actual particle size of its composition. I strongly suspect that many (most?) of them are, indeed, sub-20 microns in size, likely capable of passing through the filter media...but, again, don't know.

    • @ietechnologies72

      Hi Joli Moli - are you using one of the T-series cameras? Nearly every camera that FLIR/Teledyne has, allows you to adjust emissivity from .01 to 1.00. If you have this camera (or an E-series or C-series), you can adjust this while operating the camera in the "Measurement Parameters" menu. If you hit the select button on the camera, it'll bring up the menu on the bottom of the camera, in that menu you will see "Measurement Parameters", on this camera it's the second menu from the left. Once in that menu, Emissivity will be on the far right. You can see that menu around the 9:00 mark in the video. The TG165 is focus free and doesn't have the ability to have it's image enhanced at all. The TG267 would be worth looking at as it's a much higher resolution for not much more money.

It has a much higher resolution but nearly identical physical size and for the exact price the C3 used to be. If price is a concern, the FLIR One Pro is a go option as well but has its disadvantages as well. Let me know if you’d like a good deal on a camera. You can shoot me an email at eric@ietechnologiesllc.com if you’d like. Thank you!

    Do you have a video that covers the FLIR T1020?

      Hi Alex - I have not yet put together a video for the T1K but we certainly could. Do you have questions about it that I can help with? Feel free to email me at eric@ietechnologiesllc.com.

      @@ietechnologies72 Thanks for your quick response. I don't have a specific question. I was simply looking for an instructional video on that camera similar to the one you made for the EXX cameras because your videos seem so thorough, professional, and detailed. I am working on a presentation on thermographic inspections and wanted to include a video on the T1K FLIR cameras since my company has a few of those.

      It might take a few weeks but we can put one together if your presentation isn’t coming up too quickly.

      @@ietechnologies72 That would be awesome if you could. My presentation isn't for another 6 weeks or so. I have a mock presentation next month, but the actual presentation is in early July I believe.

    Good solution. But you also need a long scraper to clean the surface.

      This pole isn’t designed for cleaning, it’s for collecting data for industrial predictive maintenance in inaccessible areas.

      Hi Farrokh - I would recommend getting the most resolution you can afford. The E8 is probably the best-suited for that.

    Good for detecting hot spots on a motherboard??

    • @ietechnologies72
      @ietechnologies72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Johny - I wouldn't recommend it for that, it's not quite high enough resolution to see small temperature defects on a motherboard. You'd probably want to look at the new C5 at the very least, depending on your budget.

      @@ietechnologies72 wait really?? I actually ordered one because I found it for a decent price thinking it would be at least somewhat good enough to help me find a bad chip on a board or something :/

    • @ietechnologies72
      @ietechnologies72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You bet! It’s much higher resolution than the older TG-series so that’s much better-suited for that application.

      Hi Charles - thanks for viewing! I believe this could be done without too much of an issue, assuming there aren't other leaks (pressure or vacuum) with a higher intensity in the area.
