you will love the prequels and getting darth vader full story/life and getting to know luke and leia mother. but word of warning in the end it's a sad story because you already know vader exists and has turned to the dark side. but saying that it makes his turn back to the light side in the og trilogy that much more significant.

The portraits of Bilbo's parents Belldona Took and Bungo Baggins, are in fact based on the looks of writer and producer of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Fran Walsh and hr husband, director, producer and writer Peter Jackson. In fact, those portraits were seen in The Lord of the Rings, particularly in the scene where Gandalf confront Bilbo about The Ring.

I will always be a lotr fan, with that being said i really enjoy this trilogy aswell. I do think that bilbo is way braver than frodo, altho frodo has a tougher journey in my oppinion. And you are right. Its billy connolly 😂

The elves jumping the shield wall pissed me off. The entire point of the shield wall is to hold an enemy in place while archers rain fire down upon the other ranks. By jumping it, you've basically just destroyed its entire purpose for existing. Not to mention it's a very defensive formation. Why destroy a defensive formation on your side when you could use it as a meat shield while you pick them off?

So about Balin... Remember in Fellowship of the Ring when they found the tomb of the dwarf in Moria? "Here lies Balin, son of Fundin, Lord of Moria". And the one holding the book that recounts their last stand is Ori, the gentle one without a mustache.

By the time of Lord of the Rings, 60 years later, his son Bane ruled as king. While Sauron launched his main attack at Minas Tirith he also attacked on other fronts, including the Erebor. The men and dwarves fought side by side in front of the mountain. When Bane was killed, dwarf king Daine (Billy Connolly) stood over his body and fought off any enemies who tried to get near until he was also killed. The men and dwarves took their bodies back into the mountain where they held out until the destruction of the One Ring sent Sauron’s armies scattering. Now that you’ve seen Lord of the Rings and Star Wars I highly recommend the two Dune movies that recently came out.

Those pugs are (or were as it was done over ten years ago) director Peter Jackson's. Jackson himself appears in the Bree scene at the start kinda reprises his cameo in Fellowship as the carrot man (which he claims it's either the carrot man's dad or grampa). Originally he was going to have a cameo as one of the Laketown spies who hides in a basket and made bird noises but writers Philipa Boyens and Fran Walsh (who's PJ's wife) thought it was subpar acting, though Jackson claims that they say it was "stupid", so it was cut and Jackson made the current cameo. Jackson's daughter Katie (who with her brother Billy appeared in The Lord of the Rings trilogies as various kids, two of them listening to Bilbo's story at the party, two of the Rohan kids in the Glittering Caves before Battle of Helm's Deep starts and as two kids watching as Faramir and his men rides down the streets of Minas Tirith on their way to Osgiliath) appears as a bar wench at the Prancing Pony and Philipa Boyen's daughter Phoebe Griffths as another bar wench (her brother plays a bit part in Two Towers as Haleth, son of Hama, who Aragorn gives a pep talk).

They used real fish because Weta Workshop could't make fake fish that looks realistic.

something you need to remember about Thranduil (Legolas's dad) is that he originally lived in Doriath and the king Thingol was killed and the capital of Menegroth was sacked by Dwarves. If you want to know more it is in the Silmarillion.

Birds offend served as Messengers in Middle Earth. Among them were the Great Eagles, immense birds who were sentient, capable of speech, and often helped Men, Elves and Wizards against the forces of Darkness. Gandalf the Grey once saved Gwaihir (The Windlord ) from a poisoned arrow, thus creating a lifelong friendship and bond between the two. Gwaihir would always answer Gandalf's calls for help!

I didn't realize that english speaking people actually say "dumb in your head" as I never heard it before but it's nearly the same as our term "dum i huvudet" which translates into "dumb/stupid in the head".

The reason the dwarves and Bilbo had to set lose the ponnies is because in the book, Beorn only agreed to lend them up until Mirkwood but not take them into the forest as he loves all his animals as if they were his children and would undoubtly attack and kill them if they attempted to bring them in, hence why he watches guard over them, not only to keep them safe from the orcs (in the book Azog was actually killed and it's Bolg who is the main orc, tough he doesn't appear until very late and mostly mentioned, it was actually the goblins of the Misty Mountains wanting to avenge The Great Goblin's death, if orc's leaders are slain then the orcs it led will hunt the ones who killed them for miles until they're killed or die trying, unless giving a reason to give up the chase) but to make sure they kept his promise. When Gandalf goes away in the book, he had to leave the company at this point because he had attend a meeting with The White Council to attack Dol Guldur, which was planned, not because of a sudden thing happen like in the movie (that was changed for giving more drama and not to make the audience think Gandalf was abandoning them). Either way, he takes the horse back to Beorn's before continuing the rest of his journey on foot.

The anthic kingdom of Angmar was founded by Nazgul's leader.. Remember his name? Witch King of Angmar.. Angmar kingdom is long gone but we heard it from Gandalf at here :)

The dwarfen rings didn't grant any invisablity unlike The One Ring. In fact, when Sauron tried to take control over them and turned them into wraiths like with men, they couldn't be turned as they were stout-hearted and refused to let anyone beside their kin to rule over them. The rings did make an advantage for Sauron; it increased their greed, give them the ability to "make" gold and made them prone to make bad decisions which led to their downfall, which could explain how Thrór got so much wealth, refuse Thranduil his White Gems and how Smaug was attracted to Erebor. This is also the reason why Balin years later would make the mistake of trying take back Moria despite Daín II Ironfoot adviced against this, which led to his and several dwarves getting killed including Ori and Oín.

I'll answer your 31:50 question.. Yes and no.. Yes, because the treasures make Dworf's greed bigger but that is not the only answer.. Dworfs are already greedy people and miserly.. Remember.. They are not human or elves.. They are different characteristic people..

And Gimli found a stone grave (his cousin that he said).. And Gimli mourned for that stone grave.. Remember? Pippin accidentaly threw a skeleton into the well/shaft... Remember what Gandalf read on the stone grave.. " Here lies Balin.. Son of Fundin".. That was this old dworf... Also there was a note on the book..A skeleton has wrote that note remember? "We cannot get out.. Drums, drums sounds deep.. They are coming".. That skeleton was also the youngest dworf of this crew.. Ori.. :((

It's like Gandalf says to Frodo in Fellowship: "It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand." and the pity of Bilbo have cemented the fate of the world. If Bilbo killed Gollum here (or in fact Frodo or anyone later) then he wouldn't be at Mount Doom to cause The Ring to be destroyed and then Sauron would have won and ruled Middle-Earth forever.

Rings Of Power? It's a bit of a jump in that it is terribly dumbed down (as well as other things) and best taken as an involuntary parody but it could be a gold mine of startled interjections from a quick-minded, undaunted, wordy reactor. Maybe just try the first episode and decide if it's worth publishing.

Goblins are technically orcs, these in particuar is a specie that lives in the Northern Part of The Misty Mountains, similiar to their cousins in Khazad-Dûm which the Fellowship encounters. In The Hobbit book, goblins is a more childfriendly term for orc and in The Lord of the Rings, the hobbits refers orcs as goblins. Its just in the movies that they are different species of orcs like the orcs of Mordor, Dol Guldur, Gundabad, Minas Morgûl and Cirith Ungol compared to the ones in The Misty Mountains.

Yes, Bilbo and the Dwarves travel through the Misty Mountains which is also where Moria is set but this is the northern part far north over The Pass of Charadras where The Fellowship travelled 60 years later.

You could watch the old cartoon versions of "The Hobbit" and "Return of the King", which were all that we "old timey" Tolkien fans who grew up before the Peter Jackson films were made, but they might be a bit of a downer right after watching the newer big budget epic adaptations...

Dain Ironfoot would live as King under the Mountain for a very long time even until the war of the ring many years later. By then Bards grandson Brand was King of Dale. While we see all that happens in the War of the Ring, in this area Sauron had sent forces to prevent Erebor or Dale from sending forces to help Gondor. The men of Dale were pushed back to Erebor by Easterlings and Orcs of Gundabad. At the Gates of Erebor King Brand would fall and King Dain Ironfoot stood over his body protecting it from being captured by the enemy until he too as slain. But the Ring was destoryed and the power of Sauron ended. Dain's son Thorin Stonehelm the Third would become King under the Mountain and it is said though its not clear at which time this happens a decedent of Dain is named Durin the Seventh or Durin the Last fulfilling the oldest dwarven prophecy of their bloodline. Durin the Last would lead the dwarves and at long last reclaim Kazad-dum from the remnants of the orcs. The Dwarves would go about to have one last golden age until they faded from existence leaving the world to Men alone.

Bear in mind Nat, Smaug is actually quite a small dragon, compared to the Great Dragons of the first and second Ages - When Thranduil shows the scars on his face and says he faced "the Great Serpents" he means Dragons up to 5 times larger than Smaug, some were Flightless and some Airborne Fire Breathers.... The largest Dragon of all was Ancalagon the Black, a flying Firebreather, and when he was killed, he destroyed (in the First Age) a Mountain by falling on it. BTW, Thorin is affected by the gold in 2 ways - First is the strain of greed in dwarves and the madness in his family - (Thror's problem, but also shown by Thrain via Trauma), but additionally the gold has been the property of a dragon for many years and the "Dragon Sickness" (A magical curse of Greed - a result of the Dragon's possession) also lies on ALL the treasure. And Thorin is doubly affected by it. Thranduils Desire for the gems is deep seated - They belonged to his late wife (part of her Dowry) and he had asked Thror to have them set into a great necklace in her memory. Thror, affected by the greed of dwarves, changed the price he agreed to (An echo of a similar bargain long ago in the first age, which resulted in war/strife between Elves and Dwarves then), and Thranduil refused to pay it, as elves consider any bargain as fixed, not mutable once struck.

17:49 you literally saw his grave in Moria in The Fellowship of the Ring, you should know he survives this to die there. If Peter Jackson hadn't had Fili, Kili, and Thorin die, he probably would have been lynched. He already got a lot of hate for the Kili/Tauriel relationship BS. But those three die in the book, the animated film had 7 dwarves die.
