Great video again. Can you not add some cold feed to the charger cooler from the side vent to help it? Also with a bigger rad can you not put a fan on it?

Nice to see the 2AR in action! How's the turbo coming along? I'm excited to see progress on that, your earlier videos on it helped me a bunch with my current turbo conversion progress.
I still need to replace the clutch in it but other projects keep taking priority.... and now 4th gear syncro in the 2AR car completely let go on yesterdays track day too.
These vids are so good , only thing im struggling to understand is where them pipes go to and from for the cooling system , do they come out the rad straight into silver thing at the back ?
Thank you for showing the tuning process and tools. Not many people go into these details and even just knowing where to start can save hundreds of pounds instead of taking it to a tuner just to get the car running.

I honestly dont think there is much difference in cars... its you ... your shift game SUCKS... seriously... you have to get better at it.
Nice video! It looks like you're running a PowerFC. What log viewer were you using? Also, have you tried using CoPilot? That's what I use on my build. I'm going to go watch your other videos as well, so if that information is already in a previous video, apologies for the redundancy. Haha
I couldn't get co-pilot working quite right for some reason, I just use FC-edit.... And this project is not finished, I need to get the clutch swapped over when I get some other non MR2 commitments done.
@@threepotMR2 Ahh. I was able to get it running on Windows 11 and it logs most* things well. However, due to me changing a bunch of stuff, I am only able to log AFR from the datalogit instead of a direct digital serial input. Also, Boost is coming in, but it doesn't seem to log reliably. I'm still chasing down some gremlins after my lengthy build. I may put a video together about those things at some point. Good luck with the rest of your project. Feel free to message me if you want any assistance with CoPilot or if you have other questions or want to share ideas.
@@lordtakuban I got copilot running, but I couldn't make sense of any of the auto tuning functions. I just felt that FC-Edit did exactly what I wanted with no over complication. Are you using the optional boost control harness and correct MAP sensor?
@@threepotMR2 No. I'm using a PLX SM-Pro sensor as well as a PLX AFR sensor and wired those into the analog inputs on the Datalogit. I'm using a MAF and tuning with that. The key to using CoPilot to auto-tune is in setting up your target AFR map. It took me a while when I first started using it to get that figured out. And that was back when it was still being developed by Kevin.
@@lordtakuban I use the same wideband kit, it was cheap but works great. The apexi boost control kit is really good, hold the target boost really well and means I get the boost logged too.
so what intake does it have and what ecu?
Its on a ecumaster emu black standalone fully optimised tune, don't go believing all those dynojet figure the Americans claim. The 2AR makes mega torque but its not a horsepower maker. I've messed with it even more since this video and now its about 215hp, but that's all I can get. Tried 3 different inlet manifolds etc. But it does run 13.33 second quarter mile at 102.2mph terminal speed. Never seen a faster quarter mile 2AR conversion MR2 drag time so I'd assume mine is as fast as they get. But no way in the world will anyone ever get 235bhp at the wheels NA, its just utter bull.

only number plate lights not working. whats the fix for that?

@@threepotMR2 wiring was fine the lamp holders were coroded, manually rwriggle the bulbs and they would come on., i must have shorted something though as now the nearside side light doesnt work. guessing a fuse has blown. ive ordered 2 replacement lamp holders. i understand the fuse is located under the bonnet rather than the internal fuse box. do you know the fuse location?

How much hp does it hit now?
Good video- I’m getting the same sort of heat soak on my setup as well. I’m using a Fiat cinquento radiator, but mine is significantly closer to the main radiator which I’m not sure about. Running the pipes down the centre tunnel will keep them out of harms way for most of the journey to the back. Am wondering about a permanent fan attached to the charge radiator..
That cinqento rad is a great idea! I wanted to keep my charge cooler plumbing as far away from the coolant system as it'll soak up the 85c coolant heat which is why I ran the lines down the side instead. Whatever you do the water is going to get warmer with the boost soaking heat into, I think the proof of the pudding will be at what point it hits its peak while driving it hard continuously. Normal intercoolers get heat soaked after all said and done. I need to insulate the exhaust and the charge cooler itself in the engine bay. I've seen your build on mr2roc but I could figure out what type of turbo it is you are using?
I’m contemplating that foam pipe insulation material to cover the pipes, but we’ll see. Then it’s onto lovely gold tape wherever I can put it! I’m using a TBO version of a GTX2554r it was a slight gamble but so far it’s been very impressive.

Thats a good idea, although AC on MR2's isn't very common here in the UK to my knowledge, but I'll look into that for sure.

@@threepotMR2 i can send you some pictures, i did not ride in turbo for now.....its just finished.........td05 16g, wiseco 8.8/1, 800cc injectors and ecumaster..........i ride only in NA with oem ecu before install the turbo setup to check the full rebuild (all the engine is new with monkey wrenchracing parts) except head block........i need the mapping now ..........before i had 2zz but i broke it twice.........i decide to change

In total the whole project cost me about £8000 and I would not do it again! Certainly would use a K swap instead.
It is not the stands that wash the injectors, but knowledge and technology.
Could you swap out a cluster without swapping the eprom? Would there be any other effects other than the mileage being different?
I don't know, but with most ford based stuff the PATS key data is in the cluster. But honestly I don't know.

nice!!! i have tried and driven all sorts of mr2s with different engines, but still not managed a turbo mk3.. I have just done some mk3 mr2 vids on my channel.. next up i am doing up my 2zz mr2.. maybe i should turbo that, ill follow your vids as it will be pretty similar :)
I saw your channel pop up a few weeks ago with that red one with black bits! Turbo 1zz is the most fun I've had in years, goes really really well..... but.... my clutch can't take it, it was new less than 2000 miles ago, new exedy stock clutch. But even with 4psi it slips, and that's why this video series has stalled at part 4! I just need to pull my finger out and put the new savage clutch in it. Then I can crank up the boost because I think it will be nuts at 9-10 psi !!! I love it more than my 2ar-fxe MR2 which is in my track day videos.
@@threepotMR2 I run a ceramic 6 paddle sprung helix clutch.. that takes full abuse, 6Krpm launches, it's a great clutch. I need to do more research into the 2ar, i've seen it pop up a few times.. but i do fancy some boost At least a clutch change isnt a huge job
@@Pistolspete82 Forget 2AR, its not very good, and it cost me about £8500 in total to do! Its a solid 215hp flywheel NA, and its very very torqey, but you could K swap for half the money and get more performance. Literally can't be arsed to take the gearbox out of an MR2 again, done it half a dozen times in the last 2 years. Anyway I noticed some of your videos are at threesisters, are you a northerner?
@@threepotMR2 nope, I am just a sucker for driving around the country, I am as far south as you can go, basically France.. I considered a K swap, I had a civic R, but i still prefer the character of the 2ZZ, Ive got a spare with dead bottom end i keep meaning to rebuild, so i have a proper spare
@@Pistolspete82 My black MR2 had a 2zz in it before I swapped for the 2AR. Its slightly faster with the 2AR but not much. But this little 1zz turbo might be quicker than both even at like 5psi I joke you not! Its pretty serious when it comes on whoosh, and better still it makes all the right noises. Its great fun to drive on the road. Just need to pull my finger out and drop the gearbox, I've got a competion clutch S3 pressure plate and a kevlar disc here ready to go in. I miss the 2ZZ, it was good fun to hammer it on track, the 2AR is a bit less exciting even though its faster. I miss the revvy zing.

I got it CNC'd by PCBWAY... I have the cad file if you want it. But in all honesty just put a K-swap in your MR2 instead. These 2AR's are really lame.

you re genius, you solved a big problem, you can find an ecu for peanuts just because there is not key system.......when i swapped my 2zz i used a jdm ecu with an hks speed limit defencer.......i paid a lot of money ( around 400 euros) just becaused the original ecu was blocked
i started my turbo project on zzw30 6 years ago ( forged piston 8.8/1 and conrod, 800cc injectors, td05..........etc) but i just ride in NA with stock ecu and injectors around 500 miles to check if everything is ok......and, the baby, the house, other project cars etc....lol.......i restarted the project last year......i had bought a brand new pfc from japan in 2017 and i never used it and now it s to old (do not work with actual pc, no flexfuel etc.....) ....so, i sold it and bought a ecumaster with a plug and plug adapter from rrr engenering uk ( i am in France), i do everything by myself but i cant tune the ecumaster, i have never done this before and i think i will pay someone for that because i spend too much money for this engine to be risky.........good job
I have ECUMaster Black on my other MR2 running 2AR-FXE, its very easy to use. If you have an ignition and VVT table from someone else, then it will pretty much autotune its own fuel table. The built in datalogging is fantastic, especially compared to the janky old Apexi PFC. But its really not rocket science, wideband tells you what you need to know.
I didnt found basemap for 1zz turbo, there is only for 2zz atmo ou 2zz supercharged
It an ecu black too ......and my another zzw30 have stock engine ( previously 2zz but i broke it on trackday, so i réinstalled 1zz)

@@minkay3349 No Insta, just youtube. If you compare a 2zz to a 1zz base in Apexi Then roughly adjust the ignition and VVT table values to be the same difference in ECUMaster It'll get you 75% of the way there.

I use fc hako on my pfc. I didn't think the 2zz pfc could do boost control? Love your explanation and would love to learn more. Im using a program called co pilot to tune as I know nothing.
Yes it sure can do boost control. Copilot seems to have more features but I just didn't get along with it, I like fc-edit as its quite bare bones. I bought the boost control harness and map sensor from yahoo auctions japan, and bought the solenoid on ebay. It was about £200 for all 3 together roughly.

Brilliant - just used your video to open up my 2016 Audi A1 MMI and check the unit (to make sure the same before trying to source) - You can buy this module CK5050+IA07 from various sources - that being said, having checked the module, put it all back together whilst off to order, it all started working! I noticed that the code on the back of the unit (on the outside) mentions Contains IC: 5119ACK5050PIA06 - this number is lot easier to search on ebay etc, and came up with numerous options... I was going to source one of these - and may have to if it stops working again!
