Rebranding" Parkinson’s - by Dr Laurie Mischley
It’s time to reframe our thinking and take a new approach to Parkinson's disease!
Despite 200+ years of effort, we do not have a system to predict, prevent, halt, or reverse Parkinson’s.
Dr Mischley explores the notion that the problem lies in the lens through which we’ve been viewing it, the approaches we’ve been taking, and the assumptions we’ve been making.
Provider bias: Dopamine has been a distraction and obstacle for disease-modification research. Subjective measures are better in early PD.
Industry bias.
Floor effects for crude measurement systems: Phase 3 studies keep failing because the tools we’ve been using to determine severity aren’t sensitive in newly-diagnosed people in disease-modification research studies. Study designs are flawed. People that enroll in studies probably not same as global population.
Providers’ opinion that Parkinson’s is “irreversible and progressive” is outdated and contributes to the problem.
"What works” and “what providers know how to teach” and “what insurance will pay for” are often not aligned.
The systems - and access to the systems - play a role in determining outcomes.
We already have tools to make Parkinson’s preventable and reversible that we’re not using.
This revised patient-centered, evidence-based pragmatic paradigm will include education, symptom tracking, goal-setting, counseling, laboratory tests to screen for nutritional deficiencies, counseling regarding diet, daily physical activity, social health, and strategies to encourage financial stability.
About the speaker:-
Dr. Laurie Mischley, ND PhD MPH studied naturopathic medicine (ND) at Bastyr University and epidemiology (MPH) and nutritional sciences (PhD) at the University of Washington and she maintains appointments at both Universities. Her work is focused on identifying the nutritional requirements unique to individuals with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and has published on coenzyme Q10, lithium, NAD+, and glutathione deficiency (www.lauriemischley.com).
She is Principal Investigator of the Modifiable Variables in Parkinsonism (MVP) Study (mvp-study.com/), which is attempting to describe why some people with PD progress slower than others.
She is working on ways to study, package and deliver evidence-based lifestyle modification as a therapeutic strategy.
She founded:-
The Parkinson Center for Pragmatic Research (parkinson-cpr.com/) The Canine scent-based PD screening tool, ParK-9 (park-9.com/),
Developed a patient-reported outcome measure to assess PD severity (pd-symptoms.com/), built the Parkinson Symptom Tracking (PRO-PD) App, which is available free on iSO or Android
Is instructor of the online series, Parkinson School (www.parkinson-school.com/) for which she has kindly given our No Silver Bullet community free access for a limited time using the code NOSILVERBULLET
Dr. Mischley maintains a small clinical practice at Seattle Integrative Medicine focused on nutrition and neurological health of patients with Parkinsonism

Thank you so much for your work in general Michel and Mark, but bringing Dr Mischley back to us particularly. We joined the live session and I have been kicking my self since that I didn't post the question " How do we find a clinician in the Uk who follows her holistic approach?
Fantastic presentation
She is so lovely

What RUBBISH !! With absolutely NO soft tissue available dating back 1.5 Billion Years Ago from which to conduct any form of clinically scientific biopsy on, HOW can this so - called 'Expert' make such a statement ? Also, just a small detail; 1.5 Billion years ago according once again to the so - called 'Experts' All life was restricted to the sea.

Watched this on TH-cam today 18/11/24 - I have two siblings with Parkinson's, one is signed up to No Silver Bullet so I thought I'd have a look. What a fresh, radical, relentlessly positive and inspiring approach! Thank you for your good work and development - it's going to help thousands
I cannot understand the guy moderator reading the questions.
Every time I listen to Laura I learn something new. For decades before I was diagnosed, I look mineral, flax seed and B12 supplements because I’m vegetarian and felt better when I did. I was also very active, running, walking, practicing tai chi and generally outdoorsy. Since diagnosis I’ve stoped taking the supplements because my consultant was so dismissive of them…… On exercise, in the app, we need a better way of recording the type. Walking across boggy fields is very different to walking on a treadmill. Also the type of tai chi matters and how you practice it. I sympathise with the lady whose husband works with Parkinson’s. Since starting my new job I am not exercising nearly so much and feel the difference. Love the insight on excitement and dopamine production. It is something I’ve been thinking about. In choosing a job, my biggest criteria was working with nice people as well as something I find interesting. Over the summer, I discovered that the high I got passing tests on coursera was just like taking a levedopa pill. I love that you’re collecting the data as I studied data analytics, data science and AI. Speaking about AI, it would be great if we could have some free text boxes. Over time, when you have more data, we could create an AI model to help identify patterns in the 60% unidentified positive interventions. Another awesome talk. Thanks Michel.
Thank you, very informative!
Carnivore benefits. Did low fat diets get us here?
What's the app mentioned called? Fabulous researcher!
Love this lady! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your speech. I am live in Germany and my English is not to good. I have not the right words to thank you. I known now that I am on the right way to slow down the progression of PD. I asked my doctor to do the blood tests you are recommended and I take supplements. I also have the PRO- PD App on my phone. Please let us know more.
Do your findings from patients identify a history of an emotional situation which may have activated Parkinsons eg. fear & sadness? Are these emotional centres located near the area producing dopamine?
There was mention of a code for free 2 month access to Laurie’s PD school. Can anyone remind me what it is please!?
Laurie Mischley is a game-changer-thinking outside the box when everyone else falls into status quo thinking that if you get PD, you’re done. We believe she’s incredibly brave, surely facing scrutiny from traditional neurologists, and we are so grateful for her work. Her approach brings a fresh, modern perspective on Parkinson’s that we hope more practitioners will adopt. She’s a trailblazer, giving us hope and championing a patient-centered approach instead of a prescription-first mindset.
I cannot thank Dr Mischley enough for the excelent work she is doing. She dares to ask the question "Do you think Parkinson's disease can be slowed or stopped?" Of course it can.
Doctor Mischley is my guardian angel. She believes I can get bettter, and, although every one of the eight doctors I have seen since being diagnosed has taught me something important, I keep going back to her because she is the most encouraging in my quest to reverse my condition. Thank you.
Would you mind telling me your age?
For $6 a day you should find it impossible to be well nourished without including beef and a variety of organs. This is contrary to what any dietitian will recommend. I challenge Kelley Morrow to improve upon any combination of beef and organs by replacing any or all of it with vegetables and/or any other plant foods.
Dairy definitely interferes with my sleep which is enough for me to agree with Sr. Mischley that dairy makes a bad condition worse.
What is a typical day of eating for you? I’m fascinated 😊😊
I love Laurie's attitude!
Regulate cortisol
Votre nouveau look vous va très bien
What defines the approach I’ve taken is the withdrawal or absence of physical insults. Therefore, no medicines, no vitamins that I am not deficient in, no plant foods, no food at all for several days every three months, no meals after dark, reduced deuterium water, reduced number of meals per day.😊
My wife is on to me regarding fluctuating symptoms. She is aware that I usually stop eating three days before each appointment to show off with the doctor. I am also careful to get enough sleep the night before.😊
The comparison with insulin reminds me of Jason Fung. He reverses insulin “deficiency” just by withholding food for days. Gets people off the insulin injections in weeks. I know you need to protect your relationship with prescribers of levadopa, but I think it’s way better not to get involved in the discussion than to say it’s like insulin. Especially, when rising fasting insulin may be a sign you are becoming more likely to get Parkinson’s.
again, I think one of the reasons fasting works Is the removal of all inflammatory inputs. .
A third team might be “I found a way for me”.

Was diagnosed with diabetic and I chose the diet over drugs and I got my A1c to normal so I was thinking recently that if diabetes is caused by your diet, other diseases could be too. I have Parkinson also and I am working on trying to modify my diet more .

Fasting and carnivore/keto are a silver bullet for Parkinsons.
...I've just started the micro dosing of B1 and noticed a reaction. My plan is to do 3x's a day liquid b1 with liguid b-complex and a benforthimine capsule...very low doses... and give it 6 months along with a focus on consuming foods and drinks that are B-vitamin rich... I hope that one day soon more emphasis will be put on food/health research instead of finding a super antibiotic or the next Viagra😊
I love learning about how our diet affects our health.. ...I, unfortunately, live in America where fast food, pharmaceutical drugs, and corruption are normal. Where gigantic multi international corporations are God and rule everyone's life. Where a convicted felon, adjudicated rapist, J6 instigator, and fraudster is allowed to run for president 😢
I have been using a small red light panel with the two wave lights because I have early macular degeneration. I also have symptoms of early Parkinson’s. I just ordered a red light cap that fits over the whole head. I’m on high dose B1. I’m also on a keto diet and have recently been very strict, almost carnivore. My father had Parkinsonism and I had an aunt who had full blown Parkinson’s on my mother’s side. I’m so grateful that I discovered this information.
Thank you Prof Bas. I've experienced the high and low effects of c/l.
How do you fast if your on Parkinson’s medication that has to be take before or after a meal?
I have been diagnosed with PD since 2016 and I have done the deep dive into dealing with all the symptoms that accompany this disease and it sucks to be completely honest. Thank you, Dr. Sexton for your great presentation. I plan to share it with my PD support groups here in MI, so please know you will be helping many of us whom are curious of alternative ways to treat their own PD symptoms.
Zeolite clinoptilolit as a detox broom, 1/2 teaspoon borax and once again methylene blue for it’s cognitive benefits and anti inflammatory
Methylene blue. Check out the studies for Stanford where methylene blue has reversed Alzheimer/Parkinsons/Dementia.
