Great car.. I need a turbo
Soothing... Nice work!
Thank you
REALLY well done! 👍 Great attention to detail and making those splitter wickers (GT500 terminology) look fantastic and perfectly placed. 🤟
Thank you!
Nicely done! Curious to hear how big a difference this makes over your previous setup.
F**king huge!!! It’s too much I’m gonna go with a different pad next
@@phelpsgarage4202 Too much bite? Too much heat generated?
@@maintenancethrottle too much breaking power. The pad I got was really aggressive. Also, it applies so much torque to the rotor. It just takes some getting used to, but you can brake real deep to the point where I can’t heel toe fast enough in T7 at Sebring
@@phelpsgarage4202 Whoa! On the bright side, you've found the limit! Now you can dial it in w/ a different pad.
@@maintenancethrottle once I finish the ones I have
Good vid. How many track miles and/or track days do you go between oil changes? Thx.
Probably every other event. 500 miles or so
@@phelpsgarage4202 Thx. 👍
plz full install and performance videos!!!!!
That’s the goal
I already boosted my gr86 (G25-550) , but the bigger injectors can’t hold idle rpm easily by ecutek
What injectors?
cant get my stock header bolts loose, wat do
I would try some penetrating oil like PB blaster
Moo-stash cousins?
Kissing 😉
Welcome to GA! Looking forward to the turbo build.
Thank you!
8:05 Love seeing that base model neon from the late 90s. Just brings a chuckle. What a mad lad.
😂
Best of luck on the build and move!
Thank you!
FINALLY THE VIDEO IVE BEEN TRYING AND WAITING FOR MINE COMES IN 2 WEEKS
i actually drove 3 hours to their shop and have most of my stuff, just waiting on intercooler, turbo and a few parts.
What turbo did you go with?
@@phelpsgarage4202 I think it's the precision
menacing presence. what front lip??
4 inch splitter with a homemade air dam
@@phelpsgarage4202 Thanks 👌 The silver contrast is sublime
Awesome thanks for the update, any new thoughts on long term ownership of the car? Still thinking about Z06 or other cars?
There will come a point to where I can’t push the car any further with 400ish horsepower. Eventually, I will change platforms once my ability to drive a fast car at the limit. This car is a stepping stone for me to get there. I don’t plan on selling the car unless someone offered me a stupid amount of money.
@@phelpsgarage4202 Thanks for the reply, you have been helping me decide on a GR86. Why didn't you go full cage? And would do something different as far as seats/rollbar if you started over? I am debating driving it with all OEM safety vs going rollbar/serats/harness, etc.
@@user-iz3qg6sv3f just keep the stock seatbelts if you go with a harness and street drive it. Eventually, the car will get a cage.
@@phelpsgarage4202 thanks!
So excited! Love to see a detail install video or progression videos. I would love to add a supercharger or turbo to my GR86.
I’ll do a install video with my opinion of the kit soon 🤞🏻
Which clutch and flywheel did you go with?
Nothing crazy I believe it’s the ACT stuff not sure of the part number. Everything is packed up.
What? No JDL?!
No I’ll go over why I went with the P and L turbo kit
What’s this kind of hair style called?
The big bad Bob Phelps 😎
Hoping this kit and the 660 holds up well, especially with how hard you push the car. Stoked to see! 🤘🏼
Looking forward to seeing the turbo journey on the track. Very curious on how it holds up
Same here 🤞🏻
Looking forward to it.
JDL’s website says the 3” version isn’t compatible with catbacks using the OEM style donut flange. Did you run into any exhaust leaks at that joint?
It’s hard to say, but I do believe I have some sort of exhaust leak. I’m not sure where but what you’re saying makes sense.
Once my garage gets that cluttered, it takes me years to get back to actually doing anything. 😂
It kills me to see it like this 😂
Congrats on all the big changes! Looking forward to videos from Road Atlanta. Best of luck on the move!
Appreciate the support!
Just picked up a 24’ 86 and will be doing this soon in preparation for its first track day. Are you willing to share your Rays 57 and RPF1 wheel/tire specs? Car looks great!
Both are 18x9.5 et38 on a 255/35/18 RE7RS Hoosier is a 225/40/18
well Georgia will have squirmier roads at least. All the roads in Florida are straight lines. XD
Amen to that!
Good luck with the move. Excited to see what an extra 100-150 hp does for you
Thank you! I’m excited for it
I've been waiting for this video ever since you said you were going to turbo it.
It took forever to get the kit!
@@phelpsgarage4202 I figured it was probably life or something. I'm excited to see you finish this.
You are doing it the right way. The car will be a blast on the track with all your seat time🔥 Take care of your family during with all those big upgrade in your life 🚗💥💨🔥
Appreciate the kind words. I can’t wait!
Best of luck with the build and the move to Georgia. Much better track there with the elevation changes and come back to Sebring during the winter, when it's not 4,000 degrees out 🔥🌡🥵🥴🤢😂.
Thanks! That’s the plan. You located in Georgia?
@@phelpsgarage4202 No, I'm in Florida on the Treasure Coast and resided in Sarasota for 40 years. I have a friend that lives adjacent to one of the lakes in Sebring and has a Viper.
@@warrenlucier5796 we go to UTC all the time!!!
Good luck on your move and I hope the family has a smooth transition! Looking forward to seeing you at Road Atlanta and Atlanta Motorsports Park! (I also live in Georgia lol)
Appreciate the kind words. Hope to see everyone out there!
See you at Road Atlanta in a few months👀🤓 And yes feelings will be hurt especially at road atlanta…
Hell yeah, I’m excited. I’m gonna try to do a baseline run without the turbo kit and get familiarized with the track and then go boosted.
@@phelpsgarage4202 Thats a great idea. Can’t wait to see the car on track, best of luck on the move.!
Cant wait to see turbo intalled. Good luck with your move.
Thank you!
Excited to see the kit put on the car, interested on the 660. Been thinking of their 550 for a quick spool but keeping the boost low and constant throughout the rev range. Don’t really like the torque graph I’m seeing some people make with harrop for example, I want a torque graph that’s as straight as possible
Yeah, I just don’t wanna make that torque way down low because that’s when stuff will break. It makes the car feel fast, but the car doesn’t like it, especially on a stock motor high compression.
Sorry maybe you said, but what tires?. Great driving and carrying speed through the twisties! Is your top speed on the straight typical for a gr86 with mods exhaust? I am hitting 117 in a gen 1 with headers and e85. Honestly would expect gen 2 to do better, no offense intended but that's where the s2000 was getting away.
Im not sure in this video. Maybe the RE71RS. I’m hitting about 123ish.. I was hitting 127 but the aero is slowing me down.
@phelpsgarage4202 aero! I didn't think of that it's got to be a part of it. Looking at the re71rs actually... been running ps4s on stock tire size on the track as a compromise bc this is 95% a daily l. It squeals like a dying pig at the track on every corner lol Next time you go PM me. I won't need to worry about keeping up with your boosted beast as I'll be placed in intermediate at best.
Man between you and Kevin Vo i can get some insight on anything id want to do with mine
Thanks, I wish I had his followers 😂
@@phelpsgarage4202 well there's only one thing for it. 3 lap heat, winner gets the loser's subscribers.
@@mcgoo721 let’s go!!!!!! 😂
I heard you mentioned adding a turbo to the car? Still planning to? Are you worried about heat soak issues? Love the videos BTW, thinking of getting a GR86.
I literally typed this comment at the 17 minute mark lol, looks like you got a turbo, still interested in your thoughts on heat soak as I am sure you have already thought a lot about it.
New video coming out next week about the kit and the plans for the car. Thanks for watching!
@@phelpsgarage4202looking forward to it thanks!
@@phelpsgarage4202unrelated to turbos, but if you were to start over with a 2024 GR would you get the performance package with the bigger brakes? Or go base and pick something aftermarket down the line?
@@user-iz3qg6sv3f depends on the budget. My AP racing brakes work too good 😂. I’m sure the performance package brakes are a lot better than stock brakes so maybe start with that.
I just returned from doing three track days. Two were at Watkins Glen. A 2:14 was my best lap which is as good as a top Miata Spec racer. I was running 255 Yoko AO55's. What surprised me about your video was that there were no point-bys AND a mix of Supercars and Miatas. I had a NASCAR car and some pro racers that were blowing by me, but they were required to get point-by's... I really had to stay on my toes with all the fast cars in my Instructors/Advanced level group.
It’s the Wild West out here I guess 😂
Did it fix the issue for you?
I’m sure it helps. I have an oil baffle plate with and do an over fill. I would see drops at Sebring but haven’t been back since the install
Hey what studs are you running ? Thanks
APR
Thanks for that. Are they the 3in or 2.5 ? Looks great with those ray lugs
@@02semiata 2.5 but I had to drill out the lugs to get them to fit
Ah! Thanks for the info. Keep up the great content
@@02semiata thanks! I have a bunch of stuff for it but no time at the moment for install
Type R are nice but always have bad cooling issues. NC Miata killing it
Yeah, and supposedly they solved that issue but it looks like it still remains
Hey that’s my hometown! Love to see people enjoying the track
I really enjoy Sebring!
lol yea around 230 is usually when I start to short shift and not run it up to redline. Thank you for help and pointers throughout the day! 🙏🏻
I can’t wait to go when we’re both on track
Neck snapping torque, damn must be hard to not spin 4th
It could be hard to manage at times 😂
would their 2.5' combo pipe get the job done like this as well?
Yeah. I’m installing a turbo and that’s why I did a 3 inch
Lol thats pretty cheap comparing to something like 911 or a c63 amg 507 that i own , brakes alone cost me 5.5k usd , thats on a cheap side oil change is 500bucks alone, i owne the car for 4years and allready 15k in maintnance
It’s one reason why I like the GR86
At 21:49, what is that part that you’re using to tap into for oil pressure? I am currently using a port built-in to the oil filter housing of my oil cooler kit, but my oil pressure seems to be reading high, even though my oil level appears to be OK. I’m thinking it’s because I’m tapping in into the filter housing.
I’m using a glow shift oil sensor thread adapter.
Without a before and after I think the results you have are worthless. I agree that the dust shield needs to have holes in it. For my STI (very similar) I used the original plates and, after cutting holes in them, I welded a short piece of tubing for attaching flex hose to. That hose went to the bumper. Not that different from what Verus offers. Why are you switching brake fluids? I'm curious, as I've never had an issue with Motul. BTW, I run Wilwood calipers and Girodisc floating rotors that are the same as for my STI. The caliper doesn't take advantage of all of the rotor's surface, but the combo works great. I’m running PowerStop “Track Day Spec” rear pads and Hawk DTC 70 front pads. I haven't felt the need to add any cooling yet. Perhaps that will change on upcoming 85° day. I'm about to try 255/40R-17 YOKOHAMA ADVAN A055 SL tires on the car.
I’m on a BBK now. The fluid swap was done to see how long it last over the Motul.
I have a 2013 Z06 with the Z07 Performance Package love that car in my opinion the 2011 thru 2013's with the Z07 Package are the greatest Corvettes ever made pound for pound.
Yeah it’s hard to beat that car especially with its cost
