The Epic Rap Battles of History points, particularly made by Henry Ford are ahistorical and doesn't reflect the recent scholarly research on both the famines in both the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China. In Stalin's case, the "Holodomor" question, formerly contested has now come to a consensus due to the opening of Soviet archives that such famine was not a result of intentional policies put in place to starve Ukrainian people, in fact significantly impacting both Kazakhstan and Russia as well. After the overthrow of Germany in WW2 due in large part to the Soviets gaining massive amounts of ground on the Eastern front, former N@zi scholars employed by the now US-backed FRG went on to coin the Holodomor in an attempt to equate the Soviet Union and communism generally, with Germany and Italian fascism. The famines that occurred under Mao were primarily due to 1) drought and weather-related incidents, and 2) the economic and developmental state that China was left in during and after the victory against the US-backed GMD's nationalist white terror. Yuan Longpin, a Chinese agricultural scientist, developed a hybrid grain of rice that improved food security and crop yield under the leadership of Mao. Through the rapid industrialization, modernization, and scientific development both countries exhibited within mere decades, with the Soviets beating the Americans to space, the quality of life and goals of the leadership of both Mao and Stalin have no similarity with fascism or g3nocide. The massive literacy campaigns that took place in both countries should speak much louder for the intended goals of these leaders. What g3nocides have these nations committed? The closest the USSR gets is the already debunked "Holodomor" and the closest China gets is its backing of the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot during the Sino-Soviet Split, as the Soviet Union was backing Vietnam... The Soviet Union famously had many social programs and government programs to alleviate poverty and promote literacy, education, women in STEM, etc. A good book that explores this topic in more depth is "The Affirmative Action Empire" by Terry Dean Martin. Under the capitalist mode of production, particularly the United States, food is not guaranteed. You either work, or you starve to death. It could easily be pointed out the child poverty and starvation in the US, the world's richest nation, or the British-engineered Bengal famine... Property relations under socialism don't work that way. Private industry, such as factories and other places of work, are owned collectively, that is private property doesn't exist. Personal property, such as your home or tooth brush or food etc. are owned yourself. The difference is that nobody is able to extract a surplus profit from another person's labor, they cannot accrue capital off the backs of another, rather people work for each other and work for the common collective wealth of the workers... The angle that ERB takes about greed is incorrect, there are material reasons why such things happened. They, like most liberals, believe in "Great Man Theory" which assumes large personal responsibility to people like Stalin or Mao, or in this case their greed, for causing some of the problems faced by these two specific socialist states. This is inaccurate, as both Mao and Stalin sacrificed their entire lives to the development and strength of the workers. To refer to either leader as greedy is completely ahistorical and disrespectful to the great number of achievements and accomplishments that occurred under their leadership... One of the most famous works by Engels is a book called "Socialism: Utopian and Scientific" explains both the problems with, at the time, idealist socialism and how to use the scientific method and dialectical materialism to develop a scientific understanding of how different eras of civilization and production influence one another, and how to implement this understanding of the past to the construction of the future. It does not have any merit, it was debunked 130+ years ago... The human nature argument has been debunked countless times and is one of the oldest myths that capitalists perpetuate to justify their system of exploitation. The conditions of artificially limited resources and the psychological conditioning people receive play far greater role than some inherent biological construct... Karl Marx was persecuted by various European powers throughout his life, including the Prussian state, and was forcibly exiled and deported in response to his advocacy of workers rights within an increasingly militarized Prussia. Would it have been better for him to just have died? To exist within the capitalist mode of production, particularly at Karl Marx's time where socialism hadn't yet been successfully implemented, he had no choice. In order to survive, he relied on both his book earnings and his friend Engels, another prominent socialist author at the time. The hand is not feeding him, the hand is trying to strangle him into silence for his advocacy of the working class... Communism is not about sharing money necessarily, communism itself is a stateless classless society where things like currency would likely not exist. Socialism on the other hand, is more about the collective ownership, control, and democratic access to the means of production, education, etc. ERB gets this wrong.
