A Course that took me around a month to make, based off of Sahalee Country Club. This course is sure to give the best of players a hard time. My goal was to do a hole a day so i don't get so stuck to perfectionism, i think it came out well. (Still working on audio issues) Happy new year!

This is my newest design, this one took about 4 months and 70 or so hours to make. This course was based off of one piece of art i saw months ago, it just filled me with inspiration. This course is also special in that there are two sets of tee boxes on most holes, offering players another angle and way to play the hole; making it feel almost like 2 different courses. Na.. If you don't know how to get rid of the dirt you ain't for me
This is discussed in another video <3 All you have to do is place a second water body under the original one (it cant be the world created water, it must be your own)
That shouldn’t even be considered a design.
I know this is a basics video for greens, but how do you make a shared green?
Duff if you delete generated objects will it reduce your objects count?
I am a novice at designing, but you can take a look at mine. It's called fanzone open.. lol I don't really go for the whole to the tee designing, I do what is easiest lol. If you do look at mine, go easy on me lol
Could you play my course called Fox Hills Country club
Just played your course after watching the women's major, really enjoyed it. Challenging yet has some potential to take advantage of certain angles. Well done! -1
I thought this was a very well designed course. There are a lot of great strategic decisions to make and a solid mix of easy and tough shots/holes.
Ok how have I barely found you? You explain everything so simply and perfectly thank you sir!
Is it just me, or when you edit the Green Settings for one hole, it puts the exact same value for all of the greens? As in, if you select "33" for the steepness, if you set that on Hole 7, it will be 33 for all 18 Holes?
what ever you change in the green setting will apply it to all the holes. and just a little tip, dont use the steepness setting, just make your own slopes; looks and plays alot better
Hi Duff, great set of videos, just a quick question, I’ve created my plot, I set my hills to 18 and water to zero, but I get small pools on the plot even tho it’s set to zero, what’s the best way around the problem? Cheers 🍺
so all the water setting does is adjust the height of the water, so it doesn't go away completely. if you don't want the water messing with you i would recommend raising your entire map by about 50 feet. you'll have to do it manually with the sculpt tool
Hi, great vids, how do you create the cart path/road, I tried but mine was like 20yrds wide🙈 cheers 🍺
When you select your surface it will have a "path width" setting. I normally use 0 for this, maybe 10 for cart paths
you mentioned your school and work, i’ve decided i want to work in something golf related and was just curious where you went, majored in, and what you do now. i hope this isn’t too much to give, but every time you mention it i’m really curious.
i went to school for turfgrass and golf course management at ABAC. And for now i am working in golf course construction across the US
Just curious if you like fantasy courses? Only seem like you like realistic courses. I feel like the guy is making a fantasy course and you wanted it realistic.
for the most part i only like realistic course, as i am aiming to be an architect so i like my design to be based in real life. Most of my ideas and design strategies are aimed at real courses and how it would play irl. i usually judge the courses i review based of real life unless i am told the course is fantasy by the creator I do enjoy a fantasy course ever now and again but i feel that most the time "fantasy" is a way for bad designers to mask their mistakes on the course, but when a fantasy course is done well they are some of the most beautiful and fun in the game.
@@duffdesignsya I noticed you really focus on real life design. That's cool cause it gives a different perspective than what I make. I've only made fantasy courses cause the realistic ones for me personally are just so boring to play. I like to see your thought process on the videos though.
Thank you! I understand its a video game and a lot of people like the fantasy more, because you can create so much that could never exist in real life. I did spend my first 3 or so years designing fantasy courses, its just now I'm focused on becoming a real designer so i make sure to implement that instead.@@kelleywilson141
@@duffdesignswell good luck on your journey that's awesome. Hope it all works out for you.
Thanks!@@kelleywilson141
Not related, but I've watched your tutorials on course design. I was play testing one of my holes, and with pin set 4 part of the green grid is missing and it looks really wired. Any ideas what might be happening?
the hole is probably under the waypoint of another hole. at least i think. however, during play test is weird, but check other waypoints and such
your green grid is decided based on where your green waypoint is. make sure that waypoint is in the center of your green. keep in mind its only so big, so if you have a massive green it may not cover the whole thing
Thanks, I think my green was too big. It is fine now that I made it smaller. I'm not close to being done with my course, but once I publish it I can let you know and if you could play it and give me some constructive criticism I would greatly appreciate it.
yeah sounds great! Whenever your done with it just drop a comment on any of my videos with the course name and ill get to it! I am about to be moving so im not sure when ill get to it but i will at some point@@nickwoodworth7638
Sweet! I appreciate it. I'm a ways away from completion and I only get a handful of hours a week to work on it with work and other things, but I will definitely let you know when it is published and can't wait to see what you think and what I can improve on with future courses. I hope your move goes smooth!
This course is fun to play. Great Job
Thank you!
There is somethng I don't understand. Once you lay down say a rock I can't for the life of me figure out how to edit it. I select it and it says "Move Edit or Delete this Object" but there is no edit option just move, mult-select, swap etc. If I wanted to fine tune the rotation of a rock I can't get to the edit option. What am I missing. On a Windows PC. I hope you go back to read new comments on a video that is a year old.
Sup Duff just dropped in to let you know the course GOLDEN POND REMASTERED was released on 3/10/2024. Thank you once again for your critiques and tutorials 👊
ill add it to my list <3
If you want to play "The Fair Maiden @ 3 Lakes" that'd be cool
Ill add it to my list, might be a little bit till i get to it but i will eventually
Looking nice Duff
thanks :)
I like how critical you're. I'm afraid to have you look at my courses. I will have to step my game up.
yeah, sometimes im afraid im to critical but i feel as if i need to be to help others progress. i definably am very critical of my self and my own course, a bit too much so also dont be afraid to send in a course, every designer is a different stages in their progress and i understand that and take it into account when reviewing. "bad" courses ill usually point our major things that need to be changed or even just simple things that the designer just doesnt know yet. but the "good" ones i have to get very technical and nit picky with my reviews.
@@duffdesigns well my best course out of the 10 I've made is Shadows of Bigfoot. It's the only course I've actually made paths. I started 6 months ago. I've noticed my bunkers weren't good enough and some of my edging on greens. Also had a floating tree on accident even after going through the course multiple times to check. Feel like I'm good at waterfalls now. Every course you get better. Give it a look you can be critical it will help me. It's a fantasy course. I know you don't like some of the things I will do like down slopes out of bunkers or having to putt around bunkers. I actually kinda like that look though.
ill give it a look soon :)@@kelleywilson141
Fast greens are doable with tough greens, the pins just have to be in locations the ball will actually stop!
Bdan you're everywhere! You love this game. This guy thinks of stuff I don't ever think of. You can tell he likes realistic golf.
@@kelleywilson141 I’ve played many of duff’s courses he’s a great designer definitely a realistic designer. I try to make my rounds and support other creators because I think it’s important to help each other out especially in such a niche community. It’s too bad some of the big guys don’t have that mindset but I’ll try not to talk too much s*** about that. And yes I do love this game!
oh yeah defiantly doable but very difficult to get it right, ive only seen a few courses in the new game with fast greens do it well. i normally will only go to med. fast
Your next course review please do mine. It’s called Noah’s lakes 4 and it took me 5 months to make. It’s a combination of a links course and pebble beach. I think you would enjoy it

Ill put it in my list :) Might be a lil while but ill get to it
@@duffdesigns thanks I worked very hard in it
How do you stripe the fairways with different patterns?
Course setting > Fairway settings > mow pattern from there you can adjust the wide and intensity of the lines
Thanks for the video, Duff. Good golf play. I’d love for you to check out the course I just published and send me any critiques you have before I start working on my next course. Antiquity Bay Golf Club (Par 72) I’d really appreciate some feedback. I’ve worked on this for about a year as I don’t have much time to game nowadays. Thanks
Ill give it a try for sure, ive been really busy with work so i dont know when ill be able to record a video but ill get to it
@@duffdesigns Appreciate the quick response. Look forward to hearing from you when you get to it. Completely understand work/gaming balance. Like I said, took me a year to finally publish this. Cheers man
Is there a way to tell how many people have played a course I designed?
Main screen > Casual > Local match > Select the course selection > more filters > my courses Then find your course and hover over it, the number of how many plays should be in the bottom right
Great video! I am just now beginning to get into design. I do have a question for you. I see when you layout your fairway spline, it seems like a fluid movement you are using rather than click, move, stop, click, click , move, stop for each spline point. I assume you are one a computer and using a mouse to click and hold while dragging. Is it possible to get the same kind of fluid drawing movement on PlayStation using a controller? How can I do it?
On your tee boxes do you normally have short, medium and long tees and if so how many yard in front of each other?
tee boxes can be very flexible but i usually have 3 to 4 tee boxes on each hole. I try to spread my tees out by about 30 or so yards. For instance, a par 4 measuring 400yards from the back tee. Tee 1 - 400yrd Tee 2 - 370yrd Tee 3 - 340yrd Tee 4 - 310yrd Keep in mind the red tees will be very close to the green on some holes but realistically that's how they are. I dont follow the 30 yard rule perfectly. If there is a hill in the landscape that fits a tee ill use that even if its on 10 yards or whatever. And par 3's are more like 20 yard differences. And dont be afraid to have them all close on a short par 3 or 4.
@@duffdesigns Thank you. My first course is named Country Mile Golf Club. If you get a chance to play it I'd be interested in your feedback. Far from perfect. One thing I didn't realize was how much difference the powerhouse archetype makes. I tried to make challenging holes and when I played with powerhouse archetype I realize it isn't long enough.
yeah ill give it a try, might be a bit before i do anymore course videos however. Also for max distance i would recommend around 330 landing.@@azbdizzy4176
@@duffdesigns Thank you. You are a big help.
Excellent video. Thanks.
Loved the course and my play through on it comes out tomorrow, the only problem I had with it is hole #2 was just completely unfair, the fairway is small enough to hit as is so sloping everything into the bunker was almost uncalled for 😂. I played pin set 4 and you did a great job of tucking them into areas that needed a really precise shot to give yourself a good chance at scoring. This is probably my favorite course of yours, let me know when the next one comes out!
Yeah completely understandable with 2, that hole was just meant to be unfair, its just a little to unfair. Glad its serving its purpose on pissing everyone off. It takes 2 perfect shots just to hit the green, much less get near the hole. To be honest I spent way to long working on this hole and i just had to move on, the whole point of this course was to only spend 1 day creating each hole.
@@duffdesigns It didn’t piss me off too bad, the play through came out awesome it was one of my best days ever honestly so it worked out in the end
Twisted sister remastered G C is out duff. I’m still a new designer but have been studying your vids and canucks and artic fury for tutorials. Still have a lot to learn on planting and I need to stop making ground level courses 👍
...isn't the edge showing in the top pond?
it is yes, you can cover this up by adding foliage, waterfalls and rocks. Check out this video to see how to do that th-cam.com/video/RPj4CjSWeAQ/w-d-xo.html
How about brick or stone walls? Is there any creative ideas for that? Perhaps the same as you did here but the stone table? Thanks for the video! Awesome! 😇
I haven't really spent a lot of time with the walls in the game other than just splining them. But I do use them to make little building or tunnels sometimes which can be really useful
It's a fantasy course on a video game not real life. The real life courses on the game are so easy and boring.
Completely understandable, to each there own. I just prefer realistic design
@@duffdesigns actually I just tried playing on master and it was very difficult. So I could see what you're talking about. I'm big on fantasy courses. Check out my course lost dunes if you wanna play a fantasy course and critique it. Very challenging. Course record is -12 on master level with a 12 mph wind. Was unreal.
my thoughts on the course after watching this video and a round: i think there are a couple holes that are too penal, namely 2 and 17. it felt like i literally didn’t have a shot and i hit the fairway on both my only thing with your greens is please vary your pins. i don’t love when (i played pin 1) there’s a pin that’s crowned or something similar, but the other pins on the green are in bowls. obviously it’s good to create excitement, but… i don’t think that the trees in the ways of all those holes is great. obviously you can have 1 or 2, but it felt every other hole i was shaping around a tree on the approach also i wish i could create an environment as well as you can because it’s crazy how well you do that every course also this comment sounds mainly negative but i wish you got more recognition because some of your courses are some of my favorite in the game (barren point and luxury canyon specifically). and sorry for the long comment these are also a lot of my thoughts about your other courses into one. i’m excited to see what you put out next
I completely get #2, that hole i knew was way to hard but i left it for the look of it. The green gave me many problems and after i while i just had to move on as i didnt want to spend forever making the course. I do however think 17 plays really well it just takes some perfect shots. For the trees this course was based off of Sahalee Country Club which has a very similar 'tree on every hole' design, which is what inspired me to make this course. and obviously i made it a little harder because it is just a video game and i wanted to have some difficulty. Thanks for the support!
@@duffdesignsof course, excited to see what you put out next
Hmmm... just getting into this, and in no way can I select splines. (I'm on PC)
are you clicking it with your mouse or using the arrow keys to select?
@duffdesigns Hey - I figured it out... I have to have the "target" cursor selected but also, the handles/nodes only appear as the mouse passes over them. Odd design interface choice, but it's working.
I finished designing my first 18 hole course on PGA Tour 2k23. I have not published it yet. I wish I knew about the edit secondary surface feature for light rough. It is so easy. I see in the edit menu there is a smooth and sharpen feature too that I will have to try out in the future. Thank you for the video. You make designing bunkers look easy.
Youll get used to the bunkers over time. All you really do it make a little hole in the ground, slap a bunker there, and raise the back of it a little.
Great tutorial. Subscriber #300!
not a fan of the fence around the clubhouse....but its a nice course for sure!
Thanks <3
I tried making a course with very undulating fairways, not sure if it worked out
Beautiful course. I love the idea of "drop zones" and I'm gonna make use of it. I'm really learning a lot from you. Thanks again.
Just wish they would add them into the game at this point
Great review. I'm learning a lot from your reviews. Thanks for taking the time.
What's up Duff. Love your videos and all the insight you offer for new designers. I just posted my 2nd course on 2k23 [ Wolfswood at Winterfell ] and it's doing decent. (I think?...lol) Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful vids. Was really a great resource to learn about the designer and more importantly the thought processes of making a course that folks will enjoy. Would love to hear your thoughts on my course, if possible. Cheers.
Thanks for the comment! Helping new designers was the whole reason i started my channel, glad its working!
Great ideas on some of these holes. Not bad for an early course. Not bad at all.
I love this course. A lot of thought put into how it plays and very well done. I think its right up there with Canyon Club as your best IMO.
Thanks! My friends also agree, couple of them say its my best course
