I compared the 12 most popular Airsoft Hop Up Buckings of 2025
มุมมอง 10K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Changing the HopUp bucking on your airsoft replica is probably one of the easier and more affordable steps in terms of upgrading, while the effect on the shooting performance can be tremendous. Still, the range of possible bucking options on the market is huge, and fellow players often ask me which one to pick for AEG or HPA systems. However there is no 100% perfect answer on this question, I'd...
Why are 14.8v LiPo batteries so unpopular in airsoft?

They are available in several capacity-, build-type and voltage options - in my latest community post, I asked you which type of battery you prefer. Cool video. I was under the impression that r hop buckings were smooth on the inside to accommodate an rhop patch installed over the barrel window. I wonder how integrated rhop buckings compare to a traditional straight bucking with rhop patch installed? Airsoft confuses me.

      Thank you very much :) From my personal experience, the traditional R-Hop Patch + straight bucking on the one hand and the newer drop-in R-Hop Buckings on the other hand don't bring a huge difference in terms of performance / range / accuracy. But the drop-ins are way more easy to install! Have a good one :)

    All valid comments on the two. On price though, at least in the US the price of getting an equivalent aeg (something decently high end) and then upgrading it with all the parts (and paying a tech if you don't work on your own guns) can be a lot more expensive than an hpa gun. You can also get inexpensive regulators (one of mine was 26 usd on aliexpress) and 50 usd tanks. So if you take a krytac (350 usd) swap out the hop chamber, rubber and barrel (let's say 100) air compression parts (another 100) and the motor and gears (another 100) and you pay a tech (let's say 150 for 3 hours of work based on Evike's prices), then 3 11.1v batteries (most people i know use gate titans so let's say 35 per) and a lipo charger (35 for the titan one) you're at 950. Or let's say you grab a mtw (710 for the 14 inch) a hk army tank (50) and a cat 5 regulator (by no means the cheapest but it's the wolverine one so 165 with air line) and most fields include air fills with the price of admission here (or my local dive shop fills them for 8 dollars, or the compressor i bought was 100 bucks) and for batteries I use drone batteries but even then they are normally about 10 per and you need less of them but for fairness let's say another 3. You're at 955 without a way to fill air when not at a field. From my experience also if you're using a LMG (again in the US) it's pretty much a requirement for it to be hpa, especially at milsims. Lastly hpa set ups can use much heavier bbs due to their air volume which allows even rifleman limit rifles to fire .4s or heavier, most people here at milsims are pushing .32s plus and a lot of them are pushing .4s if using HPA which have a significant range and accuracy advantage which most v2 gearboxes just don't have the air volume to push, especially with a longer barrel. I've been in airsoft for about 20 years now (teching for about 15)and recently made the switch over to hpa within the last 2 years, while HPA isn't the end all be all of airsoft I'd definitely say it's better and probably the future of airsoft. That being said I still have AEGs that I use and have a lot of fun with and at the end of the day that's what it's all about.

      Also as one of the other people said my local field is at minimum 1.5 hours away and I go to about 3 to 4 events a year, the ability to show up and not have to worry about my gun working or shooting the right fps is worth the extra money.

    • @rummbolt
      @rummbolt 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@markcarico546 Thanks for your very detailed comments :) I basically agree with your points - however, in Germany we unfortunately don't have the option for switching the AEG Internals for a HPA Engine without extra permission. Also, LMGs are not veery common over here, as fullauto is not legal for replicas above 0,5J :/ But from an US-perspective for example, all you say is absolutely reasonable :) Have a good one!

    • @markcarico546
      @markcarico546 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @rummbolt yeah the German laws for airsoft are certainly interesting, I've seen some good breakdowns of the general overview of airsoft law over there and it's comparatively very restrictive. So how does hpa work over there as far as regulators work? Is the regulator permanently locked from the factory to a certain joule limit? Also is there a limit to what weights you guys can buy? I thought your video, and frankly most of your videos are very useful and informative, if your channel was more popular it would solve a lot of issues in the airsoft community haha. I just thought I'd throw out the American experience with the two. I first got into HPA because I was unsatisfied with aeg dmrs, especially because everywhere you go seems to have different rules and with some of them (in the 550fps range) that's just asking for your gun to break by the end of the weekend, and the air volume issues I mentioned before. I also got it because my local group is very small and most people don't upgrade their guns, so a fully upgraded dmr actually makes games boring, but with HPA I can tone it down to rifleman limits to make things a little more fair. But, after trying it out and comparing it to my AEGs it was just much better and much more reliable, so now I have 3 haha. It's also much quieter with a suppressor, so when I do reconnaissance for my milsim team it comes in handy and at rifleman limits you can't hear it beyond about 30 feet (or at least I can't but i don't have the best hearing thanks to the military haha). But I've spent a lot of time designing and building some very interesting suppressors (feel free to message me for your suppressor video but I'll say, try the sheets of aquarium filter).

    • @rummbolt
      @rummbolt 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@markcarico546 Haha, you name it :D In theory, you have to ask a registered gunsmith (for real-steel :D) to do the HPA-switch for you here in Germany. Then, he brings the replica to the local authorities who have to give their okay and re-apply the F-Mark (necessary for all replicas above 0,5J). In terms of energy limit laws, you could turn the regulator up to 7,5 Joules, so you basically have no restrictions besides your local field limits as no HPA I know shoots above 3J. All replicas "intended" to perform above 0,5J are locked to semi-only. [You also are not allowed to attach lights or NVGs to your replica, while holding them in your hands or attaching them to your helmet is legal :D Crazy rules...] BB weights are free to buy for everyone, but I assume (!) the authorities use 0,2gs in the event of actual testing. Never had to let it be done before, fortunately. But it indeed is questionable, as no law tells you which weight to use. :D Thank you for the kind words on my channel - of course i'd love to see more people watching, but we'll see what time will bring in the future. Still it's nice to read about experience like yours and chat with airsofters all over the world :) Thanks for the idea with the aquarium filter as well - in case i will build a silencer myself again in the future, I will consider using some! Honestly there's a couple things that sold me on HPA not only just the fact that I wasn't having to take apart my gun every single time I wanted to tone down or upgrade for specific Fields I could just tune my regulator to prep for a specific field as well as the fact that it all in all would have been my end game choice because I could have like three canisters crime did ready to go in case my other one ran out on top of that I didn't have to worry about my battery usually going out too quickly so it's just more utility of course the EEG does have its perks but I think it falls more to preference and accuracy

    I think the place HPA really shines is in the GBB world pistols and rifles alike since gas mags are known to be extremely expensive low capacity and break easily why spend $300-$500 on gas magazines to have a competitive number of bbs just for them to break in 6 months on the field when you can spend less or the same on a HPA setup you buy once and can use for any gun. I think the current norm of green gas and CO2 for gas rifles is going to go away in favor of compact HPA for cost and reliability reasons. Also, you forgot RPS (rounds per second) where even a state of the art tuned AEG can't even come close to a tuned HPA engine putting out 40 RPS without trouble

    • @rummbolt
      @rummbolt 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hello and thanks for your comment :) Yes, in a more "technology-advanced" airsoft market, i see something like micro HPA tanks built inside the magazines which replace Green Gas / Co2 then. Making the Hose to the mag adapter superfluous. But i think this still is far away unfortunately. On the RPS: I did not forget, but here in Germany, shooting fullauto on replicas above 0,5J is not allowed. My MTW therefore has no fullauto-mode. This is why I placed a small note concerning this at the end of the chrono section in video :) Have a good one!

24 hours for drying is way too low. Some paints need weeks to completly dry / harden out. Matt paints are easier to remove than glossy paints. Sometimes it takes paint stripper hours to get into a glossy paint. To prevent the paint stripper to evaporate us cellophane or plastic to cover the object.

    • @rummbolt
      @rummbolt 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yes, on some paints this is true, but the writing on those particular rattle can said, even 12 hours were enough to be completely hardened. As the paintjob on the SSG10 Stock was about one year old and the chemicals worked exactely as they did on the magazines, I don't see too much of a difference here, so i guess the results should also be valid on the "more freshly" painted objects. One more point: I think glossy paint is not very popular in airsoft, as the reflections are not in favor of effective camo. But maybe some people still use them - in this case, you're right, they are probably harder to remove. The same for 2K-coatings and clear coatings, as their surface is a lot more "dense" / "hard", are those the correct terms? Thanks for commenting, have a good one!

    Comparing Upgradeability is nonsense. Why you upgrade your AEG? Right! To get a performance nearly just as good as a standart MTW. Dont get me wrong, i love both systems. But there is a reason you are limited in upgrading your HPA...because you dont have to. And you cant compare your fully upgraded AEG and then compare the Price of a Begadi Nova...its a good gun, but you will not get even close to the MTW with that. I own a bunch of fully upgraded AEGs and they are as good as the MTW, But also as Pricy as them.

    • @rummbolt
      @rummbolt 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You're right, for a lot of other players, it might not be a good idea to have a gun of which they feel the need to be upgraded for a competetive performance. But others enjoy the process of upgrading and see the effect of their work on the replica. I like to compare it to collection and maintaining old mechanical watches: They are not the most user-friendly and reliable products, but many people still like them and prefer them about the efficient and accurate battery-driven ones. I Hope you get my point here :) One more topic however: In my eyes, the upgraded Begadi / Cyma Platinum models do come close to the MTW, not only the Nova, but also their MP5 and Scar-L Line. It's not completely that kind of performance, you could upgrade the nozzle or the motor for example. But besides, in terms of airseal and hopup performance, I see no big drop compared to the MTW I tested here. Thanks for commenting, have a good one!

I use "Circa 1850 super d.solver" 👌 be careful using acetone on plastic, as it can break down some blends, or etch the surface. You wont be able to get the same sheen back. Always do a test spot befor doine an entire surface 🙏 great video as alway!
