Block Projects
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 19 ก.พ. 2023
Ultra endurance cyclist, all-around fix-it guy, and goofy Dad, August Block, shares his tales of conquests: overcoming leaking faucets, standing up against broken steering cables, not tolerating flooding single-barrel carburetors, saying "jump back" to 750-mile cycling events, and holding the line against a relentless tween who wants mac n' cheese for every meal. Block Projects is a slice of life. What's next on program? Who knows, something for sure. Stay tuned.

I haven't posted in a while as I have been focused on strenght training and leaning out. I've made some interesting discoveries about how my performance and feeling responds leaning out and putting on muscle. Namely, I have stop retaining water and maintain an endorphin high most of the time.

Excelente Comandante..good Job!!
Haha! Thank you very much!
Good to know this isn't a difficult job. I have a trek T1 fixie that has no bosses, drilling the holes is probably going to be the hardest (and most risky) part. Would have been neat if you went into the how and why the tool works but great video nonetheless!
Thank you! That’s good feedback. I’m glad it was helpful. Good luck drilling those holes!
Thank you. Your instructions work. And starting at 2:20, in a little over 2 minutes. I like your instruction on how to clear everything, by pressing program and UP/DOWN until it flashes, pressing both at the same time. I didn't see that in my instructions. Plus you speak clearly and with patience.
Thank you so much! I’m glad it was helpful.
@@blockprojects You are very clear. Some youtube videos instruct, then it doesn't work for them. Then why post that? You are what makes youtube so successful and useful.
I am going to be a part on PBP 2027, moreover I watch every video on youtube to get knowledge from another cyclists whos visited this amazing event Also I can say that you have really clear and understandable english :) so it's also help me improve my listening
Thank you so much! That’s exciting. I will be riding in 2027 as well. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I learned a lot from the experience.
Hi - can I ask what you used to take these excellent videos?
Hello! Mostly, I use an iPhone, but I also have a GoPro and drone. I edit on Premier.
Thanks for the video very helpful as I take on a similar project knowing very little till now.
Great, I’m happy. It was helpful. Thanks for watching.
I think you fudged on connecting the drag link. The cable rod should be turned all the way into the tube before the link is connected to the end of the rod. Then you'll have full swing of the engine to port and starboard. Also, I'd opt for connecting cable end to engine first and cable to helm before bolting the helm to the assembly bracket and console. Great video and you probably saved alot of viewers a ton of exorbitant labor charges. Here in the Keys the dealers and shops charge $200 per hour and take their sweet time.
Thanks. That’s a good call! I think you’re right. Hopefully I won’t have to do it again for a while. Lol Thanks for watching!
Great job ! Best one I’ve seen so far. Have to do the same on my boat with rack and pinion steering. Thanks
Excellent! I’m glad it was helpful. Thank you.
Fixed my 10 year old Planet X XLS cross frame, saved £999 :) ONly 17.99 on Amazon! Many thanks.
Fantastic! Glad the video was helpful. Thanks for watching.
Thank You very much for your video. You should be a instructor!! Direct & informative 😎 You ought to view some of the clowns videos - I was more confused than I was when I started!!! TY
Haha! Yeah, I have seen some. Thank you!
I would've put the original steering wheel it looks so much better than the plastic one.
That’s so true! I am going to switch them out. The plastic one faded pretty fast.
Randonneur bikes can often end up looking very much the same but your is different enough to be interesting
Thank you! Agreed. Appreciate it!
This is a great video! Did my cable today and this video was great!!! Really helpful. Thanks!
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful.
Wow Thank you so much!!! Finally it worked😅
Excellent! Thank you for watching.
A little ostentatious but cool that it’s not some hipster brand.
It's not only a problem with ultra endurance riders, but gravel tourers as well, due partially to the vibrations of the rough gravel roads and drop bars. I started getting Shermers on the GDMBR this year, and had to fabricate a neck brace so I could continue until a point of exit on the route. Not fun! And I will be losing the drop bars and changing to flats with a signi9ficant rise!
That’s smart! I put a 35 degree stem on mine and had no trouble in PBP. Let me know how it goes on the next long haul. Thanks
Thank you
For sure! Glad it was helpful.
August, I always enjoy your videos. Do you find your position on the bike and/or issues with saddle pressure have changed with your weight loss?
Sorry for the delay! Thank you! Actually, yes. My sit bones didn’t hurt nearly as much. Big improvement.
thank you
For sure! Thanks for watching.
Love your videos. How did the 300K go?
Thank you! It was actually quite a bit rougher than I expected. Lol the route was beautiful but I botched my carb loading and over did it the days leading up and the night before. Big lesson there. I felt full and heavy the whole ride. I still made ok time, at 13 hrs 25 mins, not a PR but my best 300K since 2019. The saddle worked out, but I needed to make some adjustments in the fly. Thank you for asking. Do you have anything in the works? In August, I plan to start ramping for LEL.
Awesome video!! Thank you so very much!!
Right on! Thank you
Thank you for this video! Well done and easy to follow!
Hey Thanks! Glad it was helpful.
skip to @5:21 if you dont want to hear some dude talk about everything and everything except for the saddle lol... friggin heck my dude...
Hahaha! Well thanks for watching. It wasn’t meant to be a review. It’s more part of the entire Paris Brest Paris series. But I hear ya. Get to the point already! lol
Oh man what a bike! Thanks for sharing 🙏 Greetings from Ireland 🙂
Thank you! Greetings from the Gulf Coast!
Very well done 😊
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Thank you for making this video. Had to call sea tow today because my steering failed in the middle of the ICW in NC. Getting ready to order my kit. I will definitely be using your video for the installation. Is there different size steering modules or are they all the same size and how did you choose a brand to buy?
Thank you so much! I’m glad it helped. The only measurement I did was to check the length that is printed on the current cable, there is a little section in the video on how to check it. The I just went off price and reviews on Amazon. Hope that helps. Let me know. Cheers!
YES! Im on my leaning-down journey as well and would like to hear more detail on yours.
Great! I will make a more detailed video on my process. Thank you!
Nice to see your back👍👍👍
Thank you, Jez! It’s good to be back.
Congratulations on the weight loss. Not easy as we age. No doubt you'll realize a lot of benefits down the road. I'd kill to be where you started at 187 lol.
Haha, thank you! It wants to come back but I’m holding the line lol
@@blockprojects Lol..."It wants to come back."
First of all - it is very nice to see you again! You look much leaner than before, and I think because of that you also look 5 years younger than in the videos from before PBP time. The voice has changed a bit also. One comment about saddle - because you've lost weight and because you are doing strength training much less weight is now on that saddle. You holding yourself with legs more. Also, core strength affects riding position and endurance on the saddle. I myself am just starting weight loss journey, with my 6'3" and 200lbs. I remember weighting 165, and I wish to get there (at least to 170). But that require a lot of dietary changes, I guess. When you saying 500-1000 kcal deficiency, what is the actual daily intake you aiming for? 1500-2000? Anyway, keep pushing, it is very nice to see how you progress!
Hey! Thank you! That’s a good point about the saddle. I have been working core and legs a lot. My daily baseline caloric max is 2160 + exercise. Strength training is about 300 cal, so baseline gets me 2460. In that case, I would target 1800 to 2000 but since I am leveling out now, I try to keep it anywhere under or at max for the day. I am using myfitnesspal to track. Does that help? Thanks again!
Very nice unique Peace of cycling machine art.
Thank you so much!
Wonderful video of the event. It's a vague dream of mine to try it, but time will tell. Your goggles have me intrigued. I'm needing prescription glasses/goggles, and I really loved the lens size. Are you willing to share the brand of frames? Discerning middle-aged riders would love to know. Thanks!
Thank you so much! I love the goggles. They are prescription sports goggles from Visionworks I believe. The best solution I’ve found.
Very nice video and a great job. I am about to do this job and your video will help enormously. Thank you.
Great! I’m glad it was helpful!
Thanks man I just bought a nice 1977 cj5 and I know nothing about 3 speeds. I have the T150 transmission I believe. Hope it’s some what the same in filling 😅😅😅
Excellent! The CJ5 is great. The fill is almost identical for the 3 speed. Thanks for watching.
C'était super, félicitations !
Thank you!!!
Great video! Just bought the same kit, but the 3 bolts that attach the bracket to the steering assembly (shorter, half threaded bolts) don’t seem to thread properly into the holes. I can’t finger tighten them very far at all. Am I missing something?
I am sorry for the late reply here. Did you figure it out? If not, can you email me some photos at august@augustblock.tv
@@blockprojects I figured it out, but thanks. Just needed a little marine grease and a little elbow grease.
Excellent! Thanks
this set up is amazing and I congratulate you for it and I was wondering how come you pick the fenders flat instead of custom compound curve as I assume the flat ones wouldn't give you the same coverage from the spray but this is just my assumption? I would love your take. The bike is a work of art congratulations and happy and safe riding. Cheers.
Hi! Apologies for the late reply. Thank you so much. You are right about the fenders, they splash more. I just like the more modern flat look and the finish. It’s the one sacrifice on practicality. But they still work pretty well. :-) thanks again!
I have the Wahoo 16.2 dual console with a 50 hp Johnson. Personally I'd glue on the pvc cap and pin the pvc tube as I've seen them float away. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
I did this part of the video on my boat already and it went easy and well. I am having trouble with the large single tilt ram. (Not done in video). Any ideas or videos? I have the exact same engine and tilt/tim system as you
Hi! What is the issue? Is the cap leaking? I did this job twice because the first time I replaced all the seals but the caps had been ovaled out so they kept leaking. So, if leaking is the issue, I recommend replacing the seals and the cap.
The cap on my center large trim/tilt ram is leakin
Ok, so follow the same procedure for that piston. The seal kit includes the seals for that piston/ram but you will want a new cap. To release that ram, there is a pin where it attaches to the engine. The pin is held in by a c-clip on the starboard side.
I appreciate and enjoy your videos and your positive attitude!
Thank you so much! Cycling has had such a positive influence on my life. I am very grateful. Happy Holidays!
Your bike is a beauty. 😀
Thank you! I appreciate that. It has been a good sled.
Thank you!! Appreciate it.
Thank you for this video! The instructions provided with my keypad don't include the step to press the learn button on your actual garage opener. I was about to return my keypad, but with your step, it worked! Woohoo!
Fantastic! So happy it worked out. Thanks for watching.
Di jual berapa?
The whole job was under 2 hours but it took longer than normal because of the filming. Was that your question?
Worth a try I suppose, if you can find the WD40, mine is usually empty, people keep using it on me and never replace it !
Haha, yeah that’s my problem too!
Excellent video. Awesome bike. What camera do you use to film your rides?
Thank you! I appreciate it. In this video, I mostly used my iPhone supplemented with a GoPro and a small drone that fits in my saddle bag. I also carry a compact selfie stick that folds out to a little tripod.
Your bike beautiful! Love the color palette! Try checking out "anything cages" for holding your spare tire, they really can hold almost anything.
Thanks for posting. Also really like you don’t have a “latest and greatest” frame, but built up what you have. Inspiration for those of us that don’t have 3000.00 to spare for a frame, and then have to build up….
Thank you! I hear you. Once I have life experiences with something (bike, car, that old tee shirt), I have to hold to it like a member of the family. :-)
Awesome bike
Thank you! I appreciate it.
Very helpful
Great! Thank you!
