Is The Bambu Lab A1 Good for 3D Printed Miniatures & Terrain?
Bambu Lab 3D printers are known for producing amazing models with little to no tinkering. So I decided to test this presumption with miniatures and terrain on the newly improved Bambu Lab A1.

    So, I know it is counterintuitive because there are flat planes, but I really recommend printing things like the tiles at a 45 degree angle. The side detail will reproduce the model details far better. You can really tell on like cobblestones, printed flat and normal you get visible stairstepping on every stone face, but if you print it at an angle with a little bit of supports most of those little stones or sconces or bones or whatever will turn out a lot nicer for just a little bit more filament and time. Hit it with some primer and you can get really impressive results with little effort.

    I need to switch to more FDM minis and terrain. I’ve got a Saturn 2 but after my daughter was born and moving, I haven’t used it at all. But I’ve been using my P1S like crazy. It’s just that time. Saturn two can do so many more at once, but the safety of FDM. Need more practice with it though. Great video and got me to print more minis.

    Man, I absolute LOVE seeing what newer FDM printer can produce and how easy they make it look! I've been using FDM printers for a decade now and let me tell you, getting this kind of quality on older machines is possible, but VERY involved. You needed to put a lot of work into getting the machine properly tuned and getting every setting right. These machine automate that pretty much for you. I've been keeping an eye on this particular machine (no AMS - I paint everything anyway). I've also backed those DeathX tiles and I'm looking to print them, but my older machines are sloooooooow... Have you tried a .2mm nozzle? My experiences with them are... Not optimal. They add a lot of extra time to the print job (for only a marginal boost in detail quality) and I find they clog way too often and way too easily for my taste. What's your experience with that?

But FDM still get excellent results, and with fasters printers like bambú or K1 you finish very fast and almost resin quality.

    • @suit1337
      @suit1337 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@joshbracken5450 depends in what you compete - speed? SLA sees no land against FDM, FDM is way faster, almost no post processing needed, no washing, no curing - most models can be just plucked from the print bed and are good to go quality wise, 0.2 mm nozzle on my Bambu Lab P1 printer gives me similar results to an old Elegoo Mars 2 Pro

    • @TheSmuey
      @TheSmuey 22 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@suit1337 Yeah but as for speed, when you print in resin, you're not printing a single mini. If you're not cramming the build plate absolutely full, you're doing it wrong. I print resin miniatures in about two hours and I don't think there are a lot of FDM machines out there that can even come close to the quality of resin in that amount of time, not even the Bambu Lab machines. And meanwhile, the resin machine is printing an entire plate. Also, with FDM, your top layers always end up with that typicical FDM texture, they're never nearly as smooth as a resin print, even at .2mm.

    • @joshbracken5450
      @joshbracken5450 19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @suit1337 if it's a 1 to 1 race. You could print off 100 minis at have the same print speed as 1 on a resin. Fdm the more models the longer and longer it takes. I hope we can get to the point of fdm getting close to resin. I love my fdm for most stuff but not minis.

      That's a tough one. The 5M is a fantastic deal at $299. The A1 is $100 more. I've had the 5M much longer and it has produced good prints the majority of the time. It has been reliable for me. If you think you'll benefit from a larger printing area and the option to do multicolor prints, the A1 would serve you better. I can't speak on the A1's reliability just yet, but it has produced some great results so far.

I have printed every type of material out there including carbon fiber and tpu with out issue using all their stock settings. The PLA bed temp is set a bit low tho.. up that to 60c.. and when printing TPU you can use the standard pla mode and just lower the retraction down to match the retraction in TPU mode and you’ll be able to print TPU at very high speeds compared to the TPU setting they have setup

      @BiffsEquipment I have been struggling to print OVERTURE PETG I found on Amazon. I've lowered temps as low as 230c on the nozzle and bed temp of 80c which is what is recommended and if I increase the nozzle temps I get a lot of build up on the nozzle. I've slowed the speed down to like 50mm across the board and it still digs into the print or doesn't print correctly and leaves gaps in layers. Any suggestions would be extremely helpful and appreciated!

      @@stevenclark2569 I found that overture is a pretty terrible brand for filament.. I started off using them as well and everything I tried from them has sucked compared to other company’s. My two favorites for PETG are Esun and Sunlu.. buy some of their PETG.. then for the profile select the “high speed PETG” and default the profile before printing to make sure it’s all at factory specs.. I found that these printers print PETG much better in the high speed settings than they do the regular PETG settings.. I found that the faster speeds will offer a better print.. which I know makes no sense.. but yah i never print petg on anything but the HS mode.. even if it’s not HS PETG. Try that and get back to me. Don’t worry about the settings on the roll just print it at what Flashforge has set for their high speed setting

      @@stevenclark2569 also be sure your firmware is all up to date as well as slicer and make sure you do a full Calibration before you try it just to make sure it’s not a calibration issue

    Thanks Jeremy, I really enjoy your channel and you've been a great help in my 3D printing journey! I've been a woodworking instructor for many years and enjoy your style of teaching. I have had pretty flawless prints for the last week. Unfortunately, my nozzle clogged mid print and I couldn't get it to heat up enough to purge the old filament. I swapped the 4mm. out and inserted the 6mm. nozzle thinking it might be a nozzle issue, but the same thing occurred...Now I have 2 nozzles that are plugged and the extruder is refusing to heat up enough to feed the filament or unclog with the supplied tool. Not certain what happened. I'm going to do a factory reset and see if I have any luck. In the event that doesn't work, I'm hoping you might know a direction to send me. Thanks, Patrick

      Have you had any resolution on this? Just curious. What was the material you were printing with? I have been gaming it (slightly) when removing filaments from the nozzle. Procedure is something like this: a) with the machine off, move the head into the center of the bed, put a paper towel under the head; b) turn it on, go into the filament change tab (2nd from left), pick the right filament type for what's in the machine, tell it to start; c) clip the old filament feeding into the head, remove the old filament from the tube and the reel holder; d) wait for the machine to push the filament through the head; e) shut off the machine, wait 5-10 minutes, then get a leather work glove and pull out that hot print head; f) there will be some filament sticking up from the heat brake .. use a pair of pliers to pull it out. This should give you a clean pull. Verify by looking through the nozzle. As for the clogged nozzle, can you overheat it relative to whatever filament was in it last?

    I have been using a 5M for a few months.. love it. I use a mix of 50/50 PVA/water as adhesive.. found it works really well... use handy towels to apply Want a smooth plate.... get a Creality K1 plate.. fits very nicely. Cheers

    I just bought the AD5M based on your recommendations. I LOVE the printer but having an issue. I printed the side mount spool holder but no matter how I route the filament it ends up pulling it off the side of the spool and fouling the feed. Can you do a video showing us how to use the side mount spool holder?

    I realy apprciate all your videos. Especially this one, as I just got the 5m pro a few days ago. While its a champ, fast, accurate and great quality, they need to provide a real book or PDF for the interface.

    If they gave a single shit about their customers this wouldn't have happened. They are about minimum viable product. They do NOT care about us. I am never, EVER buying another printer from them for SO MANY REASONS!
