Should you hike the Bright Angel trail to the Colorado River and back in one day?
มุมมอง 17K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A lot of people embark on the Bright Angel journey without any prep. To be honest, it is not a crazy difficult hike but what makes this trail hard for a lot of people is the Arizona heat. As you descend deeper into the canyon, temperatures gradually increase and it can feel like you are in a soup bowl if you happen to be at the bottom on a hot summer day. With a little bit of planning ahead, th...

RAV4 TRD Offroad Camping Trip, Tembo Tusk Recipe, and Setting Up the iKamper Mini
While the look is clean I have 3 issues with this. 1) The lens is not adjustable. There should be some ability to as I believe there is too much of the hood being show on the MDX version 2) No sound to identify that the unit has powered on. I believe some of the earlier models had issues just dying after a month of use which was resolved. If this stops working you might not notice that small dim LED which shows if it is on. Even then you have no idea if it is working 3) With no voice you won't know if there is an issues with the microSD card With these issues IMO I would say to get a Viofo over this. Yes it might not look as hidden but I prefer functionality and knowing my device works or has some sort of issues instead of coming into a situation of an accident and then not having the video which I would need.
Gotta buy a suv sometime!

Can you tell me where I might purchase that knife that you use for cooking?

what rooftop tent is that? My 2013 Rav 4 will only carry 100lb apparently..and the crossbars alone weigh in at... can't remember...but am trying to find a durable rooftop tent that my 2013 Toy Rav4 can carry. the crossbars will hold 260 lbs, but I understand I have to consider what my auto can hold for travel . so I am curious which Rav 4 year you have and what rooftop tent you are using. Thanks!!
Its the iKamper Mini 2.0, weighs about 125lbs. We have the 2020 RAV4 TRD and have had the tent installed for 3-4 years without any issues.
Can you give an approximate time on how long it takes to get there once you turn off Hwy20 onto Bowman Lake Rd? I know it will vary depending on if you stop on the way and other factors but just an idea of how long?
I'd say it's about an hour, maybe a bit longer, depending on what kind of vehicle you have & how fast you're going.
@@LunarLanderXplor Thank you. We’re camping at a campground that’s 15 min from Bowman Lake Rd next week and want to do a day trip to Bowman. We’re in a 2022 4Runner TRD with KO2’s. Thanks for the quick response.
Nice, it will be an easy ride for you then! Do keep in mind it gets busy on weekends, go on a weekday if you can
You need helmets! Protect that noggin! True story- I ended up here (looking for a new bike) because I crashed my radexpand 5 yesterday when the front wheel came off and the fork got bent. I smashed my head against the ground but luckily was wearing my helmet. If I hadn't I would have ended up in the hospital.
Glad you're OK! We pretty much always wear helmets unless we are going slow just around camp. 99% of the time we do wear helmets ⛑️
Do u leave your home that is not true lol it just depends on state i have been Dispersed, camping and they have trash and Porter potty. There is several in south Georgia where i am i do it a lot stay up to 14days again depends on your state or city
If there is trash service & porta potties, its likely not dispersed camping. Dispersed camping sort of implies you are just out in nature outside of any serviced campsites. Agreed it depends on state, and we are lucky on the West Coast to have a ton of public land with dispersed camping allowed.
The US Forest Service definition of dispersed camping: "Dispersed camping means no services; such as trash removal, and little or no facilities; such as tables and fire pits, are provided"
When I was 12 years old in the early 1990's I did this hike with my dad. It was August, I had no prior hiking experience and all we brought was water and some peanut butter sandwhiches. We'd fill up our water bottles and drench ourselves head to toe at the water stations and be bone dry by the next one. A challenge and a great memory. My wife would kill me if I attempted it with one of my kids today!
Did the hike with no hiking experience? That is insane haha. Glad you made it out safely.
Which model can I need to buy for Corolla LE 2017?
Check their website! They have all the model details listed on the site.
I appreciate you showing the parts that you had to redo/adjust like the twist tie and the lens cover. I probably would have made those mistakes too so you saved me some time.
Thanks for the comment! Yea I did run into a few small issues with the install since I have never installed a dashcam before, so I wanted to show what I encountered
I did this in one hot summer day many years ago in the late eighties. I started late around noon (big mistake) and hiking down to the Colorado river was easy and took about 3 - 4 hours. The only water supply was in the Indian garden about half way. Going back up was a real challenge. About half way back up it became very dark and my flashlight ran out of power. Luckily, the moon was bright and trail was clearly visible. Going up was so tough and I had to stop every 50 yards. The whole trip was me alone and took about 12 hours. I took only one sandwich and 3 apples and a bottle water with me. This is the lifetime challenge which I am always proud of.
Thanks for sharing your story! Its definitely a bucket list hike. That's crazy you did it with so little water! Glad you made it out safely with a story to tell.
@@LunarLanderXplor The apples helped. Definitely, it is recommended to bring as much as water you can (3 liters?).
Awesome video I have same Bote brand board and Kayak can't wait to go camp at this place
Thanks! Love the Bote boards! So many great lakes in Tahoe National Forest
Hi Few questions pls 1) How's the dashcam holding up? 2) How fast is downloading of footage from the app 3) On a scale of 1-10, how much can it read a licence plate Thanks as I anticipate your detailed response
The dashcam is holding up great. To download videos I just pull the SD card and download to my computer, I don't need the footage often. It can read license plates well during the day, ok at night, 6/10.
Do you have spare tire?? Where did you put it??
We do! It fits underneath the trunk storage, there is a space there for a spare tire.
Awesome video, you got any coordinates for the campsites by any chance? Thank you
Hi! We generally avoid sharing exact coordinates, but there are so many campsites in these areas, you will have no trouble finding something awesome. Part of the fun is searching around for a good spot anyway. We generally find campsites on the eastern side of Hwy 395, in the area across from June Lake, and also across from the Mammoth area.
Nice car and sceneries but cooking needs some lessons to level up. Can really tell the food is unappetizing.
The food was great actually.
what awning is that?
ARB Touring 2000mm
I too have a rav4 (after selling my Jeep) and totally miss overlanding! How do you find the spots to camp and roads that will be ok for your Rav? Do you go source them out first?
We actually have a video about finding camp sites: th-cam.com/video/u4F8J1kW8WY/w-d-xo.html Normally we plan everything online, then scope out the area while we are out camping. We always have a plan B in case a road is blocked, too sketchy, or if we decide to change plans.
Did you get a permit to fly the drone there? Apparently youre supposed to have one 😉
Drone? No drone in this video, that was just a realllly long selfie stick 😉.
@@LunarLanderXplor I was prepared to use the same excuse 😉
Nice Video. Thanks for sharing. Do you think this is doable in a 4x4 sprinter van w/ high clearance? TIA
I would think so! The road is not bad at all, some rocky sections, and really just one turn that is somewhat sharp & rutted out. Note there is likely still snow up there right now, so probably best to wait until all the snow has melted. Also, this is a popular spot, so I recommend going mid week if possible to get a good spot.
But you didn’t show rear camera installation
We didn't do a rear camera. There is an option but we have front only
This is awesome. Where is the camp located?
this was near Williams Hill Recreation Area in CA
what time of year did you go and how was the temperature? looks beautiful
I believe this was late June 2020. Temperature was great that time of year. Probably still snow up there right now I would assume, given how much snow the mountains got this year. Its probably getting warmer up there already though. Awesome place, lots of easy trails to explore.
great video! I had a Kenwood in my older Rav and it was not user friendly at all. Do you have to always be connected to its WiFi, or only when you want to view videos?
You only need to connect to its wifi to connect via the app to view videos. Normally I just pull the SD card if I want footage, which is very rarely
Does it work while the car off ?
Ours does not. Not sure if they have an option for external battery
So is there an option for rear camera to go with the front camera? I have a 2020 RAV4 Premium.
I believe they do have a rear camera option
Ok, cool thanks for the response. 👍🏻🤓
Hey, i like your set up! I was wondering if you are using your factory TRD roofrails/bars to mount your Ikamper or you installed a third party roof bars? Thanks
We have a Frontrunner rack attached to the TRD roof rails, and the tent and awning are attached to that 👍
Thanks so much. Just got Gaia GPS and I was wondering about something you did. When you clicked on the land (about 4 mins in) you got info on the type of land etc. All I see on my web version is nearby hikes - nothing about the land I click on being USFS or BLM, and yet I know it is. How did you set the info to show you that?
In order to see the public land details, you have to enable the Public Land (US) map layer. Go into the Layers menu on the left side, and at the very bottom you should see Add Map Layers. Then you can search for Public Land, and enable that layer. From there, drag the Public Land layer to the top of your visible layers list to ensure it is visible. With this enabled, you should be able to click into public land areas and see if it is National Forest or BLM land.
@@LunarLanderXplor Thanks so much for your quick reply! I had tried that and it was not working. This time I zoomed out more and it did work! Your advice about looking at the roads is also helpful since my vehicle only has 7.3" of clearance and I should not do high clearance roads. Very much appreciated!
Hey, love your videos! What made you get a Rav 4 over for example a Subaru Wilderness?
Hey, thanks! I don't believe the Subaru wilderness editions were available when we got our RAV. They look great though
Show more of your cavalier!!! We have one too and love him
Aw they are the best dogs! Charlie is in a lot of our videos but we'll keep showing more of her!
@@LunarLanderXplor 👍
Get a Android box so you a connect it to your indash monitor 😊 vs your phone..💪
Not a bad idea!
Record on neutral ?
It records whenever the car is on
How did you lift Rav4?
Rough Country 2.5" spacer lift + Dendoff rear coils
@@LunarLanderXplor thanks,it looks amasing. I think I will get Rav4 soon.
Awesome! Where did you guys camp exactly? Thanks for sharing!
We camped in a few different locations on this trip! There are so many dispersed campsites along the 395, you kind of just have to explore & look for a spot that works for you. At the beginning of this video, we were across the highway from June Lake. There is a big area with a bunch of dirt roads & potential campsites there. Later in the video, we were at Alabama Hills, which has become pretty popular & crowded. Hard to find a campsite there on weekends now.
Would a stock RAV4 with a TRD package hold an ikamper tent?
Yup! Our RAV4 TRD was stock for a long time with the iKamper tent. We have since added a lift, skid plate, bigger tires, and a few other things, but the iKamper was the first upgrade (after a roof platform from Frontrunner).
@@LunarLanderXplor thank you! Love the channel. Do you know what the weight limit is for the rack and roof? (For example if I look at a bigger tent? I’m wanting to have a similar setup for my small family of three.
How do you run you run your fridge?
We have it plugged into a Dometic PLB40 battery, and we bring a solar panel for trips where we play to stay in one spot for more than 2 days. We show a bit more detail about it in this video: th-cam.com/video/LGMye5gm9YU/w-d-xo.html
@@LunarLanderXplor thank you I’m going to check it out now!
good to know that your back excited for camping season coming up any tips ? also got a rav4
Camping season is right around the corner! Definitely excited. Best tip: you don't need much to have a great time camping! As long as you have your safety & emergency gear, a way to sleep & stay warm, and a way to cook / eat, the rest is basically optional stuff. Just get out there and explore!
Where is this campsite
Its not really a campsite. We just dispersed camped in the Williams Hill Recreation Area in NorCal.
Curious what roof rack setup you have to hold the rooftop tent?
Frontrunner Slimline rack!
Do you know what the buttons do on the device? I can’t figure it out from the manual
Not sure actually! We've never messed with the camera since we set it up. It just auto-records & we pull video from the SD card if needed.
Hello, nice trip. Can you tell me how you installed tires of this size 245/70/17 without hitting the bodywork? Thank you.
Thanks! We installed a lift, and also had some modification done inside the wheel well.
Always shove trunk 1st to prevent branch nreakage.
😅
Nice tree and the clams looked great. The guillotine knife always scares us.
Thanks!! The big knife is so good tho! Just feels so satisfying to chop things with it
That sleeping platform/cargo drawer system is interesting. However, when looking at the pics on the company website, it doesn't appear it was designed to take out all the incline when the 2nd row seats are down. That would make it a bit tough to sleep well.
It definitely does reduce the incline & provide a pretty flat surface. Because the drawers add height in the trunk, and the sleeping platform extends out from the top of the drawers, it does not have the same incline as you would experience sleeping in the trunk without the platform. I don't think there is a better sleeping system for inside the RAV.
Which awning did you get for your Rav?
ARB touring 2000mm, its been great!
👍
👍👍
You literally just tried to follow all and every TH-cam cooking/camping trends and just did that.....sad
Point me to the other channels doing eggplant & feta, smashed cucumber salad, and roasted peppers while camping, please. I'd love to see what video of this trend you are referring to. What is sad is you showing up in the comments to put us down 😅
@LunarLanderXplor you literally look at what every other TH-cam video is doing and do it slightly different if any change at all. Pathetic
Notice how you did not point me to the other videos you are referring to, that supposedly we are copying. Where is your camping video at? Looks like your channel is awfully empty. I'll take advice from those who have experience to offer (which is not you)😅😅😅
nice camping ideas if you get a projector for a movie night and play it in the tent 😍
Ooh that would be nice!
Is this doable in a corolla cross awd? It's basically a mini rav 4
Probably yes, but I would definitely encourage taking on any of these trails with all terrain tires, emergency gear (spare tire, air compressor, etc), and a skid plate to protect your oil pan in case you hit any rocks along the way. We did this trail before we had any lift or tire upgrades, so we were on out stock ground clearance height (8.5" I believe), and we had the AT tires the RAV4 TRD came with (which are actually really good for stock tires).
