Bowman Lake RAV4 Camping Weekend

- Join us for a weekend at Bowman Lake in Tahoe National Forest where we enjoyed some rafting, good food, and birthday celebrations.
We also show our Dometic refrigerator and battery setup, and test out a new solar panel.
Warning: The road was pretty tough at some parts (which we did not film), and we would not recommend going to this lake without a high clearance AWD/4WD vehicle with AT tires.

The skid plate + bumper guard are from LPAventure. We had a shop install it.

Guys, we are loving your videos and the way you enjoy your life! One question. What about the Rav4 so far? Even with all the mods you've done. How comfortable, durable, reliable is it? I'm asking because my wife and I are thinking to buy an SUV to do kinda what you are doing and the Rav4 is on my shortlist but I've heard from many people that the engine is loud. What is your experience so far?
Thanks for watching! Yes the RAV4 has been amazing so far. Definitely not a perfect vehicle, but certainly has met our needs for the past year and a half of ownership. It does have a loud engine, and that is one of the downsides, but honestly it does not bother us at all. Overall it has been great as a daily driver, a great on-road road trip vehicle, a safe car to get us to the snowy mountains for skiing, and a light offroader that can get us to amazing campsites. Definitely test drive it and see if it works for you.

Hey!im really thinking of getting this rav4 and im just wondering if you ever have issues with approach and departure angles? the new rav looks amazingly capable for its class, but the long nose could be a potential pitfall for me
Hey! Thanks for watching. The approach/departure angles are definitely not great, so it is something you have to keep in mind in the trails you choose. Ground clearance is also a bit of an issue on this vehicle if you want to do more challenging trails. However, I have been impressed with the RAV's capabilities overall. We have made it to some awesome locations on roads I would not attempt in a low clearance vehicle. We did also install a bumper guard & skid plate that protects the front bumper with steel plating.

Yup! Definitely on our list to make a video about the roof tent & car upgrades.
Is this the only road to get to the bowman lake ? I want to take my family but it seems a little dangerous.
Not totally sure. Looking at Google Maps it looks like there might be another way in but we have only taken this one route. There were definitely some challenging parts of the trail that we did not film since we were focused on not hitting rocks or getting stuck. Overall if you have a lifted vehicle and all terrain tires you can make it there. We saw a number of Subarus, but mostly large trucks & SUVs. We did see one minivan up there (no idea how they got to the lake haha).
Did you make or buy the Anderson connector for the solar panel to your plb40?
I actually purchased the MC4-SB50 connector online. It was difficult to find the product, but I found it here: www.bioennopower.com/products/ba-sb50-mc4

How were the fire restrictions?
About what you would expect in CA during summer: No fires outside of designated campsites w/ fire rings. Too bad, but we still had a good time without a fire.
