The Games That Made Us
มุมมอง 1804 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lori and Rob take a look back on all the games that influenced us and made us the weird cosplaying nerds that we are today. From random PC games of the 90's to the heavy hitters of the Dreamcast, these games found a way to push us to the people we are today. For Rob, if you've followed the channel or stream then you should know these already. Resident Evil was the first game to scare the bejezu...
Lori and Rob Talk: How Should Difficulty Work In Narrative Based Games?
มุมมอง 1867 หลายเดือนก่อน
The modern JRPG on the PS5 or Xbox X is full of combat. And not quick combat of the olden days where most battles can be wrapped up in seconds, including end game bosses. It seems fights have just gotten longer and longer over the years with most bosses in Final Fantasy 7 Remake taking around 10 minutes to complete. Other games like Octopath, Bravely Default, and more all share this common RPG ...
Lori and Rob Refactoring - CRT TV Hunting In 2024.
มุมมอง 1889 หลายเดือนก่อน
Lori and Rob talk about their classic game room and their collection of CRT TVs for their Twitch stream. And just how weird purchasing an old TV in the year 2024 can be. We discuss - Should you spend more than 500 dollars for a CRT television? Should you spend more than 1000 dollars for a PVM? Or should you probably just get an OLED at this point (yes, yes you should)? And Lori and Rob share th...
Almost Time! We Discuss Our Hype For Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth
มุมมอง 1519 หลายเดือนก่อน
So we wrapped up Final Fantasy 7 Remake on stream for the third time now. Thanks all for watching! We had some extra time and had some equipment setup so we figured we would be just like every other middle aged couple out there and do a small podcast were we just discuss a certain video game. Nothing ground breaking here, just Lori and myself shooting it back and forth, podcast style, on the Fi...

SEGA Management Slide Deck - Information on Legacy IP Returning

We got another round of info hitting the web pertaining to the legacy IP that Sega is in the process of reviving. Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, Shinobi, Crazy Taxi, and Jet Set Radio all got one new screen shot and a little blurb, so nothing major there. The big news is Sega's business plan in regard to the legacy IP and how they plan to utilize it going forward. The plan, as laid out, is to con...

Phantasy Star Online - The Social Network: How In Game Screenshots Changed Everything
มุมมอง 1.9Kปีที่แล้ว
One often forgotten feature of Phantasy Star Online is the built in screen capture function. SEGA, in a stroke of 1999 genius, planned for us all to take photos of our explorations and upload them to a forums, where we could keep people in the loop with our adventures. No capture card needed! All from our living rooms. That's... insane for 1999. This was a big hit in Japan, and slowly made it's...

Phantasy Star Online - Why Do I Still Play This 20 Year Old Dreamcast Game?
This was not the Gamecube PSO experience. We had the dupe glitch. You could just pop into someone's lobby while they were in the middle of a game and find a few Red Handguns laying in front of the bank. The Japanese servers were real good for just leaving duped rares on Pioneer 2 even if you didn't know how to do the glitch yourself. All kinds of good shit just fell on your lap.
This shit sounds like ass, sorry bro
I love this game, and I will always love this game. ❤
I was pretty young when this game first came out, and I grew up playing it on Gamecube with my two brother in laws back in 2005. I was 8 years old and it was my first time playing an actual RPG where I could create my own character and watch him get stronger the more I played. They were in the level 70s when I started, and the 3 of us played for hours for a few years until it was unfortunately stolen in 2010 when someone broke into my brother in law's house. My first character made it to level 83 before that happened, and it wasn't until 2018 when I bought the game for $80 dollars at a video game store. I immediately booted up my Wii and added some epic lore to my new character. The combat data of my original character (Dizzy) was uploaded into a Hucaseal named Kiyoshi Zero. She fought like him, had his memories, and was constantly searching for two brothers named Benny and Jarrod. *Dizzy, however, was never found.* Now, I have multiple memory cards to hold other characters and use their banks because of how much stuff I found, and I've even created another character to find daggers since the Redria ID doesn't drop daggers as often as Oran does.
hultimate was the bomb
Thanks for the video! Ended up picking some up for holiday gifts.
Who’s here in 2025
Where can we listen to your PSO inspired music??
its crazy watching this and seeing people not know how to move and attack correctly. i guess when you play this game for over 1500 hours offline you learn a thing or two. i cant wait to make a better version of this game, my lifelong dream
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂bruh😂😂😂😂😂
PSO does have dodge as in moving out of the way of an enemy. I wouldnt say the game is completely basic. There are mechanical tactics. A lot of people say they like it because its more of a slower paced tactical combat akin to monster hunter. Meanwhile PSO2 suck because of how fast paced high action combat it is.
I dont think any PSO sequel does the feel of the combat as well as the original does. They always mess something up about the game.
PSO came off the heels of jet force Gemini and it gave us online gamming on the console for the first time. For us older gamers this was all mostly novel back then and a real excitement came with this game, an excitement that is now long gone, online gamming is commonplace and bored gamers widdle away each day getting gacha tickets, new outfits and collaboration, all surrounded by high definition and fast frame rates, and Noone is impressed anymore. Just look at the aelio area chat in New Genesis with all the ps4 players and you'll see.
Reject humanity, become derg
Spent hours looking for three rare weapons it have in my possession (Flowen's Sword, Last Survivor, and Dragon Slayer to be exact). All so I could learn I don't enough base ATP to use them.
This guy is a squillionaire what is this shitty camera my dude 😭
There's something about the asthetic of PSO that uniquely speaks to me. On the surface it's a generic soft 90's Japanese sci-fi, but underneath all the literal magic and technology the inhabitants have mundane lives and problems just like us. It made the setting feel strangely real and unique and I've never found a game since that captures that look. (Although FFXIV's Solution 9 has come close.)
If any man is capable to bring back dreamcast 2 is this one
Lol ooo how the graphics really look goofy now that I watch this. I had this PSO game on gamecube back in the day and omg the social aspect of PSO was wild 😂 even tho it had crazy trolls spamming stuff in the lobby it was still the best social aspect Ive ever experienced in a MMORPG. I really made a lot of friends in that game back when I was a teenager.
This game make you want to play online to not die like that
I was digging through my box of coords and found a multi av, s-video, and component for use with xbox 360, ps3/ps2/ps1, and wii. Expected it to be total garbage and do what it did in this video and was shocked to see it actually did seperate chroma and luma despite also having composite. Checkerboarding completly dissapears if you swap between its composite and s-video cable and the picture looks way cleaner. Huge time saver because there really aren't any well known proper s-video cables for xbox 360 and the ps2's s-video cables are expensive as hell
lol I keep hearing “good ass video cables”. Anyways very informative, lots of good information to digest.
I think Phantasy Star Zero is better than Phantasy Star Portable 1. I haven't played 2 yet.
You said it! Nothing else has come along that scratches that itch. As TINY of a game as this is (re-used enemies, basically 4 levels per episode), the simple gameplay loop had me hooked for over a decade and even now I come back to it every now and again.
It's... An experience. My first playthrough was as a CAST to get accustomed but it felt really sluggish. And the feeding pace for your MAG felt glacial as well so you constantly found yourself hoarding a ridiculous amount of trash loot for no reason, only about 10% of it held any real value. Especially as a CAST since they can't use Techniques so I just hoarded the best ones for a future playthrough, and as it is often the case in this games money wasn't all that useful since the best weapons are almost exclusively found killing mobs. After a certain point you simply shouldn't have any need to buy weapons. I only started enjoying it after enabling two specific cheats, speed up attack animations, and disable the MAG feeding timer. It did break the game a bit since it multiplies your DPS, but the game felt absurdly more dynamic after that. If the thing was balanced around that increase in speed it would easily be on even terms with the Portable games.
I spent soooooooooooo many late nights playing this on Dreamcast. It was a major addiction. The music is still stuck in my brain.
now a days rare gear is uncommon or if you got a CC you have all of it.... pso is such a novelty of a game
I still have my copy of on Game Cube & recently picked up my Ranger again. It's scary thinking about how my ranger is older then my nephew.
Always have & always will hate ice in PSO. That first dragon on Ultimate cost me so many scape dolls.
We cloned these items in 2001 using code breaker.
I didn't like it at all. The game advertised and teased certain weapons with npcs using them. Then you never get them. You are just stuck with the same generic trash all game. I played the dream cast and GameCube versions offline so that means I never got to see these things. Farm and farm farm I did... No reward. I finally got to have fun with a private server ten or so years ago on PC. They must have increased the drop rates cause I could actually find stuff. People in the games also had better so you always had something to look forward to. If you were really lucky they would drop it on the ground for you.
I said the same thing...now whos going to use healing wind when my partys hp is low??
Just ordered my Fenrir Duo and one thing I haven't seen mentioned anywhere - does the Fenrir allow the use of multi-disc games? For instance, Panzer Dragoon Saga uses multiple discs but I didn't see where you had multiple discs listed in your game select screen.
Thanks so much for this video I thought I was going crazy!! I bought Tomee S-Video Cables for my ps2 off Amazon and the artifacts were driving me crazy. My N64 S-Video didn’t have them at all. Big relief
What did you end up doing? Also did you get sound
@ I ended up getting genuine Sony s video cables off eBay for ps3 but they also work for ps2 and it had sound as well. Much better
My reaction when I had her in my party the whole time soaking up xp and decked out gear
Don’t worry, it’s like that in PSO2 s as well. Everything hits like a truck in ultimate.
Megid: Robot go bye bye.
Both games have multiplayer Both games(pso&psz) have a story/quests Through DeSmuME(DS emulator)you can better the graphics so it doesnt look deep fried. Lasty the game isnt known because up until PSO2 phantasy star WAS a dead franchise. Pso1 shut down Psu killed it hope Ps Infinity wasnt released in the west(portable 2 was tho) After psu, games realeased on ONE SYSTEM alone. Fast forward to today NGS killed it again.😂
Thats why you get DRK resist and scape dolls.
To add to this. Your actual character name effected what section ID you were. Drop charts were based on Section ID so if you wanted to farm a specific rare you had to have the right section ID as well!
Crazy how you used to drop your gear when you died back then .
I liked to think that PSZ was the origin story of my usual troupe that I make in every PS game. My HUmar, my FOnewm, and my RAcast. The former was my main, and this was his first time getting his hands dirty, my FOnewm would be, I guess the father of who I used in PSO, and the RAcast was the prototype. Nevertheless, I'm glad that this was the beginning of making your character feel actually important to the story. The games in the Gurhal System had you sidelined for other NPCs to take the spotlight, so it was nice to see this change. I mean, yeah, you're considered one of the legendary Four Heroes in PSO, but still.
It took me 6 months of playing a few hours a day to find the Psycho Wand back on the official Japanese server for PSOBB. I started a quest, checked the first few rooms and then reset. It was boring, so I watched anime while I played. I only saw one other player with Psycho Wand on that game, and we ended up becoming friends and duoing some of the harder quests together. Good times.
Is it possible you can make a full version of this it sounds pretty good to me
Go Flyers! May this season be a good one!
Steam deck is coming in tomorrow. This is the first thing I'm doing 😎
Online? Dreamcast didn’t have internet functionality back then?
I still got my copy of PS0, it's my first Phantasy Star game, i still remember keeping my DSiXL wired to the charger for days trying to clear the Eternal Tower and other endgame contents, it was super fun, it's also the game that motivated me to start learning english. Probably one of my most played games on the DS along with Sola to Robo Red the Hunter, Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon MD Explorers of the Sky and Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings.
ROFL. Welcome to ultimate… v2 players have known this suffering for 23 years. Good luck doing this solo!
Today I got into PSOBB, absolutely amazing. Wow. I fully get it dude. Your wording is perfect in this video.
2 words... Psycho Wand. -_-
