Ethan Winters: Husband of the Year

Love can make you do some pretty stupid things... Almost one year ago, I angered a lot of people by calling Ethan Winters from Resident Evil 7 & 8 one of the dumbest horror protagonists of all time. Today, we take another look at the man, but this time, through the lens of LOVE. If you like this video, let me know! I'd love to do a second part! MY INSTA: just.mcgrath ETHAN WINTER...

Bloodsuckers: An Analysis of Those Who PREY Upon Us
Went from saying "I don't believe in ghosts or spirits" to actively insinuating that ghosts are somehow a contentious subject in the "scientific community". Sold off for views.
Didn't expect my cast to get creeped in this video
For such a critical thinker, you couldn’t critically think of a better word then “unalive”? Advertisers must love you
Ethan winters is the goat lol. Also nice video
Reminded me about "Babadook" of all things, with how much narrative problems it shares. Just a huge wasted apportunity for a good psychological thriller imo
i wonder what vro thinks of smile 2 now that its out
Excellent effort. I hope you'll consider doing similar treatments for Reanimal
bad religion mentioned

There is a reason why Japanese psychological horror and their western Adaptations were a success for a while. Movies like the "The Cure" put a lump in my throat, without it doing anything.
Would be nice if you put a link to the other two videos you recommend we watch first.
That’s my sisters story!!!!!!!!!
I always thought the patients in the hospital got porcelain features because they wanted to remain young and were bored enough to do it, the only other place we see porcelain is in 'children'
15:58 I feel for you haha. When I was a child I had to be held down, and it was traumatizing. Every time I went to the doctors' office I made SURE to ask if there was going to be a shot. I had to know. I was told no, usually by my mom I think, who was probably just trying to get me to calm down. But there were always more appointments than not where I was assured there'd be no shot, and then at the end of the appointment the pediatrician would tell us I'm due for one vaccine or another. And then they'd ask if I wanted to come back or do it now, and my mom (understandably only now that I'm an adult) always strong-armed me to get it done then, probably because it would have been annoying (and expensive) as hell to schedule and go to another appointment. Tangent 1: [ I'm (high masking) autistic, which I assure you came before the vaccines (ba dum tss) but one part of this is I am especially troubled by ambiguity (and experience it more often, ex. with social performance)- I didn't understand the mechanics of pregnancy when I was a kid, and it was this mysterious threat I couldn't wrap my head around, and now stomach gore and parenthood-as-ego-death is MY number one fear. ] So the ambiguity of the doctor's office became a huge contributor to my fear. I'd be cold-sweating in that waiting room every time, and I grew distrustful of doctors and my mom because I really felt like I'd been lied to. If I had known I was getting a shot upfront maybe I would have fared better. Sure there's suspense, but I think I needed the mental preparation more. If my curiosities about inhalant vaccines I'd heard of were taken seriously, maybe I wouldn't have felt like a shot was this avoidable pain that was only being inflicted on me because the adults didn't care about going to extra trouble. I would get so scared as a kid that I got triggered by pens if a doctor was holding one, and felt like the needle went in and wormed all the way up to poke me in the brain. Tangent 2: [ Ironically, I WASN'T afraid of the dentist! I was even okay getting oral anesthetic injected because it was just.. different somehow. I had no cavities until around 13 when braces made it harder for me to clean my teeth, so I never got a filling in those vulnerable younger years. I think a part of me even liked getting fillings, because I felt so cool for not being scared. ] ---- AND THEN in 2019 I came out as trans, and I knew I wanted to go on T. Without help from my parents, I knew I wasn't going to shell out for the pricey topical gel. Worried the results would be inconsistent too. It was going to be injections. SELF ADMINISTERED. Determined to make it happen, I steeled myself and /watched/ during my vaccinations and blood-work from then on, breathing carefully and doing whatever I needed to do. Before that I had always coped by looking away and chatting, warning the doctor/nurse/tech that I was squeamish even though I knew I was over freaking out at my age. Just made me feel better to talk about how I felt. Oh and getting them to count down but fake me out, that's a great one lmao. If not for my goal I would not have done it man. And the first night I injected I was all alone. (My family was and still isn't supportive, which also delayed me a few years.) It was like. "What the hell. I'm about to do this, I'm about to put alll that needle in my leg." Sitting there, just having to /do/ it. The physical experience was -interesting- I will say, though I'll spare you further description in case you see this- my QPP has a fear of needles and gets more upset about my needles than me hahaha. Happily 549 days on T today. I still get scared, but I'm brave every time. I do it slow because it gives me more control, and I cope with the pain by slapping myself a bunch on my other leg to make my brain release adrenaline which naturally increases your pain tolerance!
10:20 I dunno if you'll see this, but I wanted to share a podcast recommendation: I've listened to the entirety of the Magnus Archives and while I enjoyed it, it was when I started listening to The Silt Verses (which I've now also finished) that I realized Magnus never actually scared me. I would get chills at points, and think "oooooooh. That was clever and spooky," but The Silt Verses disturbed me, and went places with body-mind horror- and sound design... that stick with me. I realized that subconsciously, I hadn't recognized audio as an effective-for-fear horror medium before. But I don't just want to sell you on it by saying "it's so scary bro trust me" because even if it doesn't scare you at all, it's still a fascinating addition to the ecosystem of audio horror fiction as a medium. Magnus (oh and WTNV) was an inspiration to loads of other horror pods, plenty of which are great, but it became very common for there to be some kind of device to justify the audio format- like the tapes, or it's a radio station, or found answering machine messages. This can be excellent for introducing a limitation or spooky ambiguity to the listener's experience of events in the story. To go on a tangent: A good example is the Within The Wires anthology, another favorite podcast of mine from the Night Vale Presents network- each season has new characters, a new device, and takes place in a different time and location in the same fictional world. The first season was extremely fascinating to me as horror, but I didn't fully appreciate the other seasons at first because I was so hungry for the same feeling the first season gave me; more "relaxation" instructional cassette tapes, and the ominous and authoritarian re-education "Institute" lingering on the periphery of the narration. I'm glad I did though because season 2, "Museum Audio Tours" is another piece I'll never forget even though it's not horror- but I could gush about it forever!!!! All this to say, The Silt Verses doesn't use a Device, and that made it a fresh and exciting listen for me. It's an audiodrama told through character acting, internal monologue, and immersive soundscaping in between. As for whether it's quiet horror or not, I would say no, it's not all quiet horror, but there's a balance of quiet and loud. I don't know where to start in describing what it's about because I never feel like I do art justice when I do- but it explores man-made divinity, grassroots, traditional, and corporate gods, forbidden faiths and corrupt authority, and a horror in the brutality of indifference that is deeply, carnally cathartic to me. Leave a comment if you read this or checked it out? : )
Oh and, some of my favorite early Magnus episodes were Piecemeal, The Coffin, and Lost Johns' Cave
Controversial ending aside, i think this film is great, the main character never had a good support system and that's something many people couldn't relate to because they always have some family members, friends or loved ones that can support them. And when the curse starts to take effect, she tried to do the rational thing until it's proven to her it's getting super natural. And i think anyone will have a hard time convincing others that there's this entity only I can see is haunting me. Sensory cannot be trusted, there's no one to rely on, i think this descend into madness is well written. The way she speaks didn't help with communication but she's asleep deprived, hallucinating and her targets aren't really listening/ believing her. I think her job is show that even professional can succumb to this trauma demon, it's not like a therapist can host therapy sessions for themselves. Ultimately i think the viewing experience differs because our expectations on characters are different, you expect the main character can remain calm and well spoken to convince others and her supporting circle can act adequately. While i think most character act according to their own beliefs, value and knowledge.
Ahhh this feels like an odd place to comment but I'd like to On the topic of fear, specifically fear of medical needles, I shared the same fear as a kid. Funny thing though, I got diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 4, so ahots became part of my everyday life. Even though I was scared of them as a kid, the concept of being afraid of needles is almost alien to me now that they're a necessary part of my survival
Damn, i love the ending and the narraction of it is stellar
This was great! Very creepy and atmospheric.
Watching this while writing a paper for my archaeology of Fear class about Appalachian evil spirits
Absolutely love this!!! Ethan’s The Character of All Time. Just some regular guy pulled into of the rest of the RE universe’s bullshit. This video got some good unexpected laughs out of me which is very appreciated, fantastic work as always :-D
the gunshots all being the pan sfx is killing me i love the use of memes in this 💀 i think this and your ranking of ethan kinda summarizes my thoughts on him: I love him so much but he isn’t the smartest, but he is a good man, husband, and father. truly the guy of all time
this is a damn Dr.Who episode
holy SCP-173
Damn, this video will be a great addition to my presentation on Midweatern Gothic! 15 minutes talking limit is too short, but my teach never gave a real limit on supplementary videos.
I understand your fear of medical needles, I have no issue getting stabbed hurt or cut, but I don't like the idea of the injection it's not natural and could go very poorly. I like my veins as they are and don't want them messed with.

Very late comment, but what I never see brought up about the man in the beginning of the first game is that the chair is still standing upright. Usually, you'd have to kick that down to, you know. The man appears tall, yes, but is also unusually high up from that chair. I don't think he necessarily did it himself.
I was in a bit of a rough spot when I Alice Isn't Dead came out. It was not only an amazing series, but gave me a sort of melancholy sympathy.
did we forget about the podcast you mentioned it in the first video and never covered it😭
