Do the r50 wheel speed sensors bolt right up to the r56 arms? I saw on a 3D printing site adapter bushings specifically for this conversion
Just watched the video and I'm sold too, I can't remember ifbyou had the adjuster extenders, if you do have you any idea on the size of the hole to drill for them?
Hi Collin... Just completed the same manual swap. Noticed that you don't have an oil cooler in the oil filter. Have you had any issues? I have mine setup without one as it is not tracked or driven hard.
Thanks for sharing! Is there anything that can be done to prevent corrosion where the holes are drilled?
Still waiting for a full parts list video, does the ECU need a reprogram or can a manual ECU be used from a donor?
Hey, sir. Interesting a new sway bar on my mini right now and was watching your video. To get the brackets off the sway bar, after I remove the 4 14mm e torx bolts holding the subframe on, it still isn't loose enough to get to the top/ back bolt on the bracket. What did you do to pull it down to easily access it?
good afternoon, very good video thank you presenting The extension that the rear shock absorbers have, I see that you make a hole with a drill that's like the rear cabin Do you have a photo of how it looks? to be able to do the same thank you so much best wishes jaime
On the first generation Mini the S model and the a Automatic use the same starter. The part number I used on my Getrag 6 speed transmission swap was 17854
Hey, i saw your car at hardscrabble ranch. I couldn’t find you in the crowd. Glad to see jt in person
Hey! I just got your card off my windshield from meow wolf! Thank you! I left you a little ducky I received from someone else. This was my first MTTS, so I didn’t have anything custom haha.
👋🏻 Hey! We are still inside, thank you for the ducky! See you on the route!
The shocks likely bottomed out at the correct preload, because they were far softer than the manufacturer deemed necessary for the application. Watching you drive with a manual gearbox is real cringe in how you ram the box and don't know what gear you should be in much of the time, demonstrating zero mechanical sympathy and that you were never taught properly how to use the gears. If you were on the dragstrip it may be forgivable, but you where just tootling around town.
Yikes 😂 There’s definitely not enough information in this video for you to be able to determine that I don’t know how to drive. I don’t think we’re gonna agree on that subject. Maybe you could watch some of my newer content and see if you think I did any better? This one is pretty old. And if you still think I have “zero mechanical sympathy” and you find my content “cringy”, then you don’t have to watch it!
@@collinryser There is plenty, but as I've already alluded to, you don't know what you are looking for.
Sounds like a great road trip, quick question, will a manual 6 speed from a 2007 go into a 2004 that has a bad 5 speed , the 07 is a parts car with a bad motor that I can pick up. Yes I'm new to the world of minis, great videos to get me started on my adventure, keep them coming.
poor car owner..
That sounds awesome! Been watching your videos for a while now, i don't own a mini, i have an NB Miata but i really enjoy your videos. Enjoy your road trip bro!
Hi Collin! Sounds like a great trip! When will you be in Bozeman? Where else in MT will you be?

It does, fortunately it passes inspection because it’s on the passenger side.
I only found out about this event two weeks ago so I couldn't get the time off for it.. but I live in oregon 2 hours south of Portland if you want to meet up for a drive to Mary's Peak (highest peak in Cascades) and to Alsea Falls!! Great twisties on both.. I have an 03 bumblebee R50
Are you on Instagram? Could you message me? May end up going this route, looks like a fun drive.
I hope you have a good trip! I wish I could go this year. I did MTTS in 2009 and 2012 for a couple stops and it was great!
I wish I had been driving MINIs around that time instead of being in high school
Have a great time!
That’s the plan 👏🏻
That's a lot of driving! I'm glad you don't HAVE to live your life under that car :) A bit of fame is fun. Go for it with the videos!!! Respect the work it took to put this together! NICE!
Thank you 🤙🏻 I really appreciate it
The wheels are definitely a good lock. Glad the car is performing so well for you!
I think they’re gonna stay 😬 Now my other wheels can go on the Miata
Sounds like an awesome fun trip! Enjoy the drive.
It will be a great time 🤙🏻
I hAve had a 2005 MINI Cooper since 2019, how have I never heard of this? I would love to do it if the car would stay together long enough!
MINI is offering free inspections at their dealers across the country in preparation for this event, you could potentially still get it done!
Videos are very inspirational. I want to do with my car too.
You absolutely should. I’ll take a manual over an auto every time.
My suggestion to you my friend is to dump running run flats tires on your Mini, run flats don’t handle as well as regular tires.
Runflats are much better than they used to be and they have their place, but yes I do prefer non runflats.
If you have adjustable coilovers, you don't need that spring compressor anymore. Just loosen the spring adjustment lock collar and release the preload. Then remove the top bolt.
Yeah, this was a while ago when I was working at a dealership and learning aftermarket stuff on my own time. Have a look at some of my more recent videos too, I have a coilover install from last year on my current track car.
@collinryser I'm just finishing the video. I agree on the lower spring rate on the rear. Most people are running 8kgf/mm for my car (370Z). But I ran the numbers, it's really supposed to be 5-6kgf/mm. Then fix body lean with antiroll bars. I'll be running 750lb/in(13.4kgf/mm) F and 275lb/in(4.92kgf/mm) R. The car has a nasty 0.65 motion ratio on the front. I was always wondering how people are running 18kgf/mm and still be fine. 😬
@@MyFaux The spring rates I chose are too soft. Very comfortable, but too soft. I plan to go to a 6k or 7k square setup when I get back to working on this car again. The handling is not controlled and the rear bottoms out at a reasonable ride height.
If you upgrade to R56 S discs you'll need to go up to 16" wheels *Edit: seems I was wrong and some 15" wheels will in fact clear*
I have actually test fitted my 15s on an R56 and they fit with plenty of room.
@@collinryser was that with the Cooper S 294 discs?
@@davidque165 Yes, even my 15x7 wheels just barely clear them. I have tried both of my sets of wheels on both sets of brakes, the base R56 and the R56 S and they all clear.
One thing you have mastered. Is pieces to camera. You explaining things and talking to the audience is incredible man. I also can’t stop looking at those wheels… 👀
Thank you 🙌🏻 You know it means a lot coming from you 👏🏻
Interesting to see how you get on with the brakes. I have a long pedal travel on mine. Would be nice if it was a lot firmer.
Will do. I’ll definitely get it sorted.
Loved the update! I am still looking forward to know why one of the front is rolling over more despite having more camber.
I didn’t get back to that did I… essentially the smaller front sway bar allows more overall roll, and even though I do have more camber in the front, the added roll angle means more camber loss under load.
Keep up the uploads, this is my favorite channel
👏🏻 Thank you, I really appreciate it

Nice work dude! The analysis you did by cutting together all your best sections is really useful. I recently picked up a Garmin Catalyst that does it for you. Expensive piece of kit, but worth it IMO. Keep pushing!
I’ve actually tried a catalyst briefly, Garmin had a tent at RevUp last year and I got to demo one. Very cool tech, I just couldn’t get over how much visual space it took up in front of my windshield. If it was able to be mounted front and center of my dash instead I would probably think about getting one.
@@collinryser 100% that's how I did it. I actually get pretty distracted by the screen, so I have it mounted way off to the side on the dash. The only thing on the windshield is the camera, which I hardwired.
Oh nice, ok. I guess I was remembering that the device also had the camera in it, or that the Garmin guys told me it had to be at the windshield for some reason. It was a very quick demo, I may have missed something. That’s good to know.
I put a Cat Cam in my r50 in the winter and got a tune to bring up the redline to 8k rpm and I love it so much. It sounds like a bunch of angry bees 🐝 😂
8k? Do you have a built and balanced motor? That’s a ton of revs for a W10. Mine gets really buzzy around 6,500 and I really feel bad pushing it past that.
@@collinryser lol my w10 has around 170k miles but I did spin a bearing on piston #1 so I replaced them and installed APR rod bolts. I also installed a cam from “catcam” and APR cam sprocket bolt, I installed larger injectors that are 267cc/min @ 3 bar too and a r53 cooper s throttle body. I treat my r50 like a Honda though banging gears whenever I get😅
@@minhtinnguyen594 That’s wild, I can’t believe you run that thing to 8k
Great video of a great weekend :) Is it legal to put a six speed in it? That could maybe make a difference, with the closer ratios?
Thank you 👏🏻 I have actually had the 6 speed in this car before. It would not be legal for the class either way, but also the 6 speed setup is about 50 pounds heavier than the 5 speed between the weight of the transmission itself plus the difference in the flywheel. Also, the gearing I have now works pretty well for Gingerman. The bottom of 3rd gear lands in the torque band to pull me through every corner and the most I ever have to stretch 3rd out is about 6,600rpm. The fastest point on the track coming into 11 puts me right at the top of 4th, so I’m only using two gears for that whole track.
@@collinryser You're welcome 😊 Well, if it isn't legal... I'm surpriced that the six speed is that much heavier! but good that the five speed suits the the track that well. Regarding weight, maybe you could explore that option a bit more. I understand that you didn't want to risk anything that weekend, but now that you have the power figure from the track rollers, you could explore that option safely, and still leave a healthy margin to put you nerves at ease. That tenth will definitely be gained by removing the extra weight you carried around! I'm looking forward to seeing your future videos, and I hope you continue to include the onboard footage - I for one would love to see even more. Good luck!
@@testacorsa150 There will be lots more 🤙🏻 I want to keep a healthy margin to be safe, but in the future I will get on the dyno as soon as I get to the track so that I can be more accurate with the weight. I am also planning to put a restrictor in to allow me to run less weight overall. And I still have the roof to swap.
good job, I like seeing non honda fit's in sundae cup and being competitive
👏🏻 Thank you, I’m hoping to be more competitive as I develop the car more.

That…. Was a SOLID episode. Seeing you progress so fast is just so fulfilling to watch. And seeing you so happy out there. Makes me happy brother! You’re going to do phenomenal things in the world of racing brother. I can feel it.
👏🏻 Thank you sir. Still need to get you out there with me. That’s part of it.
Do you still drive with the downgraded 5-speed Getrag? If yes, do you notice difference after you downgraded the front sway bar to enhance oversteering? I mean didn't the new sway bar balance the absence of the LSD? As for the brakes, didn't you think about 330x26 mm discs from GP2 and R56 calipers with adapters? Though it will require 17 inch wheels. Such a combination seems to be the most cost-effective way to create a heat-capable brake system due to the thickness of the discs and effective due to the long lever.
I still have the 5 speed Getrag. With the smaller front sway bar and the amount of power this car makes, I don’t think an LSD would have much effect. I can put power down very early mid-corner. Aside from being expensive, I would never be able to take advantage of the GP2 brakes. My top speed around Gingerman is about 93mph and the stock brakes stop it very quickly. When I do my brake upgrade I will use mostly parts that I already have. I’m also not willing to go to a 17 inch wheel as the setup I have now is very lightweight and allows more poke with a lower ride height, plus the lower gearing.
@@collinryser thank you for the answer! Your experience with the sway bars is really interesting. Btw now you have 15 inch wheels, right? As far as I can see the non-racing wheels are 15 inch of the R81 style. So it means you are going to use the R56 calipers (brackets) from One/Cooper, not S?
@user-gj1gm6zr4b I’m not using factory wheels. They are 15x8 with a +25 offset. I have the ability to fit R56 Cooper S front calipers if I end up deciding to.
Solid video Collin! Editing is certainly getting better. Keep it up man!
Thank you sir 🤙🏻 Good to see you have a TH-cam channel, I'll have to start watching.
