Sithi. Crap stories are the best. Looks nice up near Silverwood. Used to go up there as a lad and also 3 cornered wood and Bluebell wood up that way. Bluebell wood used to have a cenotaph with my dad’s uncles name on it who was killed in the First World War but the big brass plaque was stolen by some scum bags. Dad used to tell me a story about Silverwood that his best mate Foster who later had the garden centre found some dynamite near the pit and tried to set it off by throwing it into a fire. Dad apparently stopped him. Apparently it was a big box full. Luckily it can’t be ignited that way anyway or they would not only have killed their gang but probably have blown the entire woods up! Dad’s family had one of the cottage’s that became the garden centre. Should add when Foster opened his big cycle shop dad took me to buy a bike. Dad asked him if he could get an old mate’s discount but he said no chance of that, business is business even though he had saved his life.

Dinnington is in South Yorkshire. The video started outside one of the Pubs Dinnington used to have. It was called The Falcon and I grew up living there. It was sold off and turned into a restaurant and I understand it’s currently closed.

I use to live in Dinnington until I was 9 and there was definitely a Pit there is was on the road between Dinnington and Thurcroft - so yes probably Laughton, it closed in 1992

All the best, have a good un. If you do Whiston go up the steep steps from the brook up to the church, they’re a bit of a bugger and will have you panting but the church at the top is lovely and the miners building to the side of it is a nice bit of architecture. There’s also a cricket pitch.

Nar then me old mate. I’d love you do a small piece on Sheepcote Lane ( as the Bridges called us lol) talk about steelworks and Narrow Strip, info on the different departments, what machines and characters we had, and any funny memories of shifts etc. You could tie it in with a visit to Stocksbridge, same sort of thing and show how much it’s changed since we worked there. I think it will generate a lot of interest from ex steelworkers like us and get to more followers. Hi Rotherman, if you like walking/biking about you could take up Geocaching as a hobby. I love it. If you dont know what it is download the app, you look for treasures that are hidden all over the country/world and it gets you out and about everywhere. You could even make TH-cam videos of you finding them its quite popular 😊 Merry Christmas 🎉

I used to visit this place countless times as a kid and it's changed a little over the years. Haven't been for probably about 2 years now. Might have to plan another trip up sometime... Probably towards the spring when it's a bit warmer

I'm not from Rotherham but I think it is quite a beautiful town centre with all those trees. I've been to the market a couple of times and to the wonderful Grimm a couple of times. Rotherham town centre re shoppers is suffering same as every city and town in country. No one has money to spend. If they converted more old buildings into low cost rented apartments that might help make it busier.

It’s a shame how internet shopping and closing down the pits and industry has killed small business. My wife worked in Dinnington in the late 80’s/early 90’s and it was thriving. We would go on her works nights out to the Miners Institute on Saturday night and you could not get a seat. We would go to the other pubs and a nightclub there and had a great time. Looks like all that has gone from watching your video.

Good camera mate! Dinnington looks dead compared to 40 years ago. Me and Glyn Bennett were a member of the Dinnington Operatic Society doing shows, think we only went because of the dancing girls lol.

This burial ground can be found on old OS maps, when it was more or less in the middle of nowhere. I.e. the site was intended to be well away from the town centre. The nearest houses I believe were on Alpha Lane (where The Lanes estate now is).

My sister in-laws sister used to live next door to it. Looking at those sir names many of those families still lived in the area when I was younger and probably still do. The cemeteries in Rotherham were sold to private companies years ago by the council so it could be one of those that have responsibility for this plot but I should think as they can’t make a profit out of this one it is just left alone. If the council is still responsible then they should clean it up a bit just out of respect to the dead.

It was done up a couple of years ago and looked great for a while but maintenance has not been kept up. The houses in East Dene were built just over 100 years ago John. There’s a plaque commemorating first council house at top of First Avenue.

Good vid that John. To say i've lived in the area over 30 years and i've been past it a handful of times i've never fully looked into the history of it.. It's a shame it been left to get untidy. Hopefully the council will tidy it up someday soon

The pub you mentioned near the mail coach, which had the glass front, was called No.10, Prior to that, I think it used to be The Cleaver The Hare and Hounds was a busy pub, with the atmosphere of a 'local', Landlord & Landlady were Jack & Millie when my mother was a barmaid there.

You're due free breakfasts, I reckon, for your promotion of these businesses.

I said at the end of the video it isn't a nice car, on the contrary it's a brilliant car with all the gadgets you could ask for, I was meaning it's not like an Audi A6 or a Mercedes estate.
