@@Rollingwiththestones thank you really appreciate it, kept it short didn't want to ramble on much, I've another town centre one planned, I must be mad.
It was done up a couple of years ago and looked great for a while but maintenance has not been kept up. The houses in East Dene were built just over 100 years ago John. There’s a plaque commemorating first council house at top of First Avenue.
@@Kinbstdds thanks for the info, never knew that, I had 2 sisters live in East dene behind there in the 80s. My best mates wife is from there too end of that toad leading to far lane and their son now lives there too.
Good vid that John. To say i've lived in the area over 30 years and i've been past it a handful of times i've never fully looked into the history of it.. It's a shame it been left to get untidy. Hopefully the council will tidy it up someday soon
It may not be the council's responsibility to look after it, you'd like to think so tho, shame on whoever it belongs to, regardless of the age of it, and the brick pillar on the end has been demolished too.
This burial ground can be found on old OS maps, when it was more or less in the middle of nowhere. I.e. the site was intended to be well away from the town centre. The nearest houses I believe were on Alpha Lane (where The Lanes estate now is).
Eyup John lad , av learnt summat agean by watchin one ov de vids ! Shame it's a bit neglected but if da gis RMBC a bit or a nudge now would be a good time for em to give it a bit or TLC am sure de's plenty o people on community service who wud relish de challenge . good vid pal and good to ave de back KTF si de on't next un .
My sister in-laws sister used to live next door to it. Looking at those sir names many of those families still lived in the area when I was younger and probably still do. The cemeteries in Rotherham were sold to private companies years ago by the council so it could be one of those that have responsibility for this plot but I should think as they can’t make a profit out of this one it is just left alone. If the council is still responsible then they should clean it up a bit just out of respect to the dead.
Very interesting yet again pall thank you. And might we all say great to have you back 👍👍👍👍👍
