great video thanks! question i got a 180hax front wing and need back wing for it (got a 40 now) u said u prefer the carve? i was gona consider florence back wing… i usually foil drive in 2-5 foot waves and do ligjt wind wing foiling in san diego… thanks!
I’d go for the 20 carve. Really loosens up those big front foils. Super loose and turny. So much fun! Also I think it’s the fastest tail
ok so chekit i trued florence bak wing with and without extension w the 180hax and was magical so loose like butter and pumped real well especially w extebsion…. i demoed it vs the flow im not even sure i need demo anything else it really worked like magic u think i really beed compare to carve? its pretty darn manageable not
i meant its not too loose or anything… it has enough control
With the 180 I’d go 20 carve
Hi !What foil you use here, i don’t see any swells…
Using the Lift 180 HAX. Amazing in small conditions and still very surfy feel.
Hood river sucks cuz moss grows 9 months outta the year and it's drizmal. Housing is ridiculously expensive and the cops will pull u over for any infraction.
Really !? Seemed pretty rad
Can you share what your setup is here? Foil size type, mast, and board volume? Looking to upgrade my foil SUP setup
All Lift gear. Board 105 L. 7’2” Foil: 150 HAX Tail: 20 carve Mast: 28 inch. M2
Did you have a partner or friend flying the drone as you rode the river? Kudos, however you pulled it off. You guys killed it regarding recording logistics
Hey thanks!! So I just met the filmer/drone pilot, Rob the day before just through riding. We both did a couple runs that day and wanted to do a couple more short ones. I asked Rob if he wanted some drone footage of himself. He said for sure.! Then returned the favor and got some clips of myself. No planning what so ever. Just came together haaa. A lot of good people out there!!
Been surfing on Lake Superior since the early '70s when i was the only surfer. Now on a good day it get crowded and, at best it is storm surf anyway. Wing foiling on Superior is as good as it gets anywhere and the more the merrier. Thanks for sharing the stoke.
Wow pioneering up in Lake Superior. My hats off to you! That’s the one “Lake” I haven’t rode. Thanks for sharing! Sure does open doors!
Looks great - I am headed there to wing with family in March 2025 - did you bring your own gear?
I brought my own wing gear. They have excellent kite gear. With good twin tips and strapless surfboards. If you want to foil I’d say bring ur own gear
Someone watches clay island lol. Cool channel got the same hobbies but over on the south end of Lake Michigan
Haa ya I’ve watch a few. I think he’s a little bit better at speaking than me and more philosophical. Lake Michigan my 2nd favorite Great Lake. Sorry home takes number one. Some say Huron and Michigan are one Lake. Enjoy 🤙
the location gate keepers can pound sand. it might make more sense for the surfers. the more the merrier IMO, there's not that many of us on the great lakes and if anyone has any semblance of wind/weather reading skills all the spots will be discovered eventually. keep making great content 🤘and sharing the stoke. hope to see you on the water one day.
Haaa thanks. Ya i can’t see it ever getting busy surfing on the lakes anyways. The level of surfing is soo low there’s enough for everyone to go around. It’s a different mentality. Ohh well, glad to a part of it all.
Building my downwind boards right now, cheers from Superior
Good for you. That’s next level. Keep on toying with the idea just can’t get my shit together.
Hit all the points for sure. Similar things apply for surfing in the Southeast. Really easy to hit the ceiling of progression with marginal waves, but the foiling possibilities are endless.
Thanks bro! I feel like southeast would be better waves then here. Anyways foil sure opens it up!!
It's pretty surprising that people complained about you mentioning the location you were. As vast as the great lakes are and so few people that foil in general. Much less the GL. Big shame. Ill be back in spring to add to the crowd. 😅
Kind of thought the same. I sided on the cautionary side. Didn’t want any bad vibes…. All good 😊
Look forward to ripping with you! Am out of Waterloo, got into it this year, riding at Conestoga lake. Rejuvenated love for board sports. Am getting foil brain after a session feel like a am being elevated while on land. Cant wait for wave time
Ahhh brah lol. Stoked for you, enjoy then journey. The process is so fun with no limit. Hope to see you on the water!
Great job Mike trying to share the stoke. 99.9 percent of the population will never know or understand what that feeling of flying is like. Glad i took the plunge many years ago to kite foiling and dabbling in wing foiling. Keeps everything fresh and adds at least 75% more days to your year. Cheers!!
Such a gift, we are the lucky ones. Couldn’t imagine my life without these games we play on the water. Hard to describe how it has enriched my life. Also the more I travel the more I have an appreciation for where we are at. 🤙
For real! I'm still on struggle street but having a blast, can't wait until I'm at the level to properly snag some waves like this1
Enjoy the journey brother. Every level is fun. Progressing is fun, sometimes I didn’t realize how fun it was until I reached that next level. 🤙
Love the stoke!.I think it would be great to separate the surfing culture you touched on at the beginning from foiling and not give it much weight. There is plenty to go around! Love each other and share in the excitement!
I do get both sides of the story. Was trying to share the goodness. And man this stuff is good. I think people are looking for action sports in this geographical region. Why not share? Surf culture can be interesting….
So… where’s the spot again?
Hahaha
Somewhere in Canada eh?
So true, it has completely opened up the lakes. I love how much practice you can get in with kite foiling, pumping, flat water starts. They all translate so well to one another allowing you to progress between the good wave days. Simply impossible with surfing!
Yes sir. I went kite surfing with a strapless surf board, in some decent conditions. It’s been about a year since I’ve kited with a strapless surfboard. Came back like riding a bike. In fact i think it was one of my better sessions. I think foiling in excellent cross training. More time on the water. It all translates. 🤙
Lots of cat memories on Georgian bay! What model is this?
Georgian Bay beautiful. This is called the gateway. Hard plastic hulls. Little heavier but great for dragging it around.
I grew up sailing on boats because my Dad made me. I hated sailing on mono-hauls but I loved the catamarans. Feeling the wind in the ropes and the speed was exhilarating. Now all I want to do is wing foil which takes the feeling to another level.
Thanks for the comment. Cats are so much fun. Great way to experience what is possible on the water eh!?
This looks great! So where is this spot?
Ahhh would be breaking the code…. Somebody already has given me crap.
What happen when you fall?
Paddle back up onto the foil!
Heading to the shop to pick up my 80L Armstrong FG board this morning. In Hood River I have struggled with standing up (Stinkbug) on my 72L Omen Flux.... So I need a bit more stability. 80L Armstrong, Lift 150HAX, same mast and stabilizer. My progression is: many years of kite foiling and efoiling, many years of windsurfing. Getting jybes now after only 3 months new to sport. Next task is footswitching. This is a valuable video you've made for me. Could you please share where you've got your mast placement? Looks pretty forward?
Thanks!! It’s just putting in the time…. I put the mast all the way forward.
So much nicer than my spot, moving now!
lol. Doesn’t go off daily.
Sweet wingfoiling spot!
Thanks Lance. Need to checkout some of your spots!

Great riding!
Thanks!
Sick!!!!!!
Thanks!! So fun
I’m just cracking the code now and so psyched
Sooo good!!! Stoked for you. The risk/work to reward ratio is the best
@@michaelpisarczyk6465 I’m from Lake Erie in PA and want to go back and ride there so bad
wow. who knew lake erie could do that?! great guide too.
Doesn’t happen everyday. But when conditions are firing and you know where to go and what to do, it’s as good as anywhere else.
Incredible swell.
Look so fun
Come down try it out!
Hey, are you still riding the Takuma Carver 2? Can you tell me something about the remote charger? When you plug in the cable alone, does the blue light turn on, or does it only light up when you place the remote on it? Mine blinks from time to time and that's it, it doesn't charge.
Hey I sold my takuma gear. I’m pretty sure the light should stay on. Those chargers were very finicky, you had to have it placed on there just right.
Hey man - I have just got the 180 HAX and have that same Armstrong DW board (a bit longer). Where'd you like the foil in the box for small stuff like that day? Thx!
Hey bro, All the way forward.
@@michaelpisarczyk6465 thanks!
so awesome!
Thanks!!
Sweet!
Thanks!!
Did you need a permit for flying your drone? Did you have to declare it through customs and all that? I will be going there in a few weeks
No just went for it. Maybe I should have?
@@michaelpisarczyk6465 haha I have no idea
That was really really excellent. Thanks for taking the time to add some info about the location. We hear about these places & see footage of runs or sessions however by showing a wider context you made me really want to visit there.
Thanks!!! Hood River is awesome!! Don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
Nice video. What drone are you using?
Dji mini 4 pro I really like it
@@michaelpisarczyk6465 I have a Dji mini 2 and I'm scared to fly it in stronger winds on the Columbia River Gorge, but it looks like you got yours back at different spots on windy days. The Gorge sometimes has 40+ knots of wind..
I don't get to go to gorge anymore until i retire due to work commitments in the summer.. this brings back some memories.. such an amazing place
Thanks for the kind words!
you'd be able to FD out in that (on foil), for sure. you would motor with swell to get up, then loop back. tbh, I really enjoy motoring upwind/upswell in messy waters. I'm presently on a 25cm, though. (i ordered a 20 from an unnamed domestic vendor, but they sent me the wrong one and i didn't notice for several dozen batteries worth.) if i were on a 15cm, I might have a very different opinion. My situation: if it's over 12knots, i bring a wing and might use the FD to quickly get to the good wind line if needed. Then, I put the remote away until i need to get home through a wind shadow. Because of the FD, I can ride the spot i want rather than the spot the wind direction decides. It's bonkers. i just leave it on my foil all the time. you're not wrong to wait. new integrated masts are coming out.
I can see myself using it maybe for about 10 sessions a year. A lot to spend for that. But haven’t ruled it out yet
Fantastic video thanks so much
The Hatchery is an EXPERTS ONLY site, it is no place to learn ANY sport on a busy summer day. Great that you had a good time here, you're clearly an advanced SUP foiler and just briefly passing through the "heart" of the Hatchery. This is no place for beginners though, many better spots for learning🤙
Ya ur right. Any person going to the Hatchery would be an experienced waterman or woman. Downwind foiling requires advanced foiling skills, a pre-requisite before attempting to DW. When ready to start learning to DW foil, I still think would be a good spot. That being said respect the locals be kind and watch out. Use common sense. During my brief visit saw many beginner DW sup foilers. Doing mini laps and learning. I’m sure they all were good foilers and water people. 🤙
Turn your music down.
Yup sorry about that. Was figuring out new editing software….
Great video. Which drone do you have or recommend?
DJI mini 4 pro. It’s awesome, was little worried how it would do in high wind but handled it well
Great video- saw the one on the Resort as well. Really considering this for the fam. This a good place for beginner foiling?
Ya steady winds. Calm on the inside and good instructors. Great for the family
Hey, I just tried sup foiling on flatwater with the 115l version of the Duotone Downwinder and the Fanatic high aero aspect 2000 wing for the first time, but after a couple strokes the board immediately turns and doesn’t go straight. I have a 75cm mast, so it’s quite confusing. Any tips?
At the beginning of your stroke. Reach way out. Far from your body
Grab a dry bag and get camping :-) There is a lot of water in the state and having to walk around it sucks lol
?
You lucked out. It sucks there! Folks you'll be disappointed if you come... 😉
"Getting over a cold".... Sometimes this is River Nose which is the legacy often from the pollen floating on the surface getting rammed up into your sinuses in crashes
No shit!!! When I got home I could feel my sinuses. I actually was flushing my nose with salt water and breathing eucalyptus steam. All good now. Thanks for the info.
What was the total cook time and how many pounds was your pig?
Was in the ground for 24 hrs. I believe it was about 50 lbs. Don’t use burlap. Some parts I could taste it….
