Nice House! Would be awesome to go directly from the hot tub to winging and back in the tub. We're out on Vancouver Island, getting mentally prepped for Saturday's storm. Forecast is for 35kn (that's base wind, probably close to 50kn gusts in the center of the straight), air temp "feels like -3C." Really liking the downwind board with a tiny hand wing to keep the forearm pump low and less time in the water. The dw board also gives me more confidence around the territorial sea lions for some reason. For extra cold days I bring a cooler full of hot 4L water jugs. Pre chill my hands, then warm them up right before going out, also dump hot water down the suit and booties. Then do a few long unnecessary foil pumping downwind rides to get the blood flowing. Also helps to have a little extra subcutaneous insulation this time of the year.
Ohh man sounds juicy!! Enjoy!!! Ya I find the hardest part, is just getting out there. Committing to the decision…. Good idea with the hot water! Love the island. Should be there is summer.
I wear dry mittens. It is kind of dry suites for palms. They made of membrane cloth and have wrist gaskets. I put on different liners mits underneath them depending on weather. Great grip and hands are always dry and warm even for winging where hands are always up. One can order them from Igor at Toronto Windsurfing Club.
Great and useful video !What’s the reference of the o’neill stuff? I bought one of these made from polypropylene many years ago and use it under my 5 mm wetsuit. Thank you
I surf the great lakes all year.. 5mm gloves boots hood will work till the lake freezes, 7mm boots gloves to be out for 3 hours or so... as long as you're moving around you'll stay warm. Beginners tend to just kinda float around a lot .. kiting winging guys aren't in the water half as much so the gear isn't the same as us surfers...
nice ice plunge. I find that if I can come back in after the first 20 minutes and warm my hands up with some hot water, it expands the capillaries and I can go out again for an hour or more. Solite makes great gloves up to 3mm. Great grip and finger dexterity. No arm pump. They work on sunny days above 50 degrees F.
Thanks. I was checking out those boots and gloves. I’ll have to give them a try. I have also found if you can get through that initial cold period with your hands things seem to get easier. I always raise my hands and swing them down quickly, forcing blood to move down. Switch handles while in harness or whenever possible.
YA Need another drone shot! lol
I put Nitril gloves (typically blue & cheap) underneath neoprene gloves

Insane. last time I was out was late September and it was icy
It’s no problem with all the gear.
At some point you just say screw it. It's not worth it. Stay at home with a nice hot coffee
Haha true
