Your driven pulley is on backwards, if the cvt "shifts" the belt gets out of alignment which generates lots of heat and destroys it. Only asymetric belt cvt's can be mounted like this. The ramp is also mounted in the wrong direction. How long do your belts last?
Thanks for your comment. Everything is assembled like the motorcycle manufacture did it. These are very small (the height of your kneecap) made from 1996 to 2002 and there is only 200. The cvt is rated to 18 hp. This one has about 29 hp. Depending on how a person drives determines how long the belt lasts. I know of a few that still have the original factory belt.
@@KT111Thanks for the info. If the manufacturer did the setup like this its probably not that bad, if it works it works I guess. But the driven sides ramps are mounted wrong either way, I suggest looking that up because the cvt may not work that well if its done like this. Cheers
@ Yes, it does seem like it is mounted on the wrong side of the ramps. Comet made these so they could be run in either direction and both sides of the ramps are the same . The difference is the spring. The red spring 203130A is for the normal direction as you say. There is also a reverse wound spring that is yellow 204524A so the drive can be used as it is installed on these motorcycles. When Ridley was testing these, it was found the red spring worked better than the yellow spring. I have both types of springs and found that to be true. The type 2 with the bronze bushing and steel collar keeps the belt cooler when idling by removing the friction from the sides of the belt and was modified by Ridley. Thanks for bring this up. There are no manuals on these bikes. My intent is to give people videos of how these were built. Thanks again, I enjoy conversions like this.
Wow , I want to go there ! How many thousand kilometers have you driven on the magnum 44 clutch, have you had to change the plates and weights?
Have 27,358 kilometers on the front 44C clutch with same weights. Same kilometers on the 44D driven rear and just replaced it due to the keyway expanding. Same part as you fixed with the steel on your motorcycle.

@@KT111 understandt ,thanks
@@dimalopatin563 I have thought about what is most problematic for me. It is the belt getting very hot. The top wide part of the v-belt will roll up on the edges and become lower in the pulleys the high speed will be less. Speed will drop from 148 km per hour to 80 km per hour, sometimes less speed.

at 7-8 minutes you can see the crankshaft of your engine, if you only have a liner on the crankshaft and there is no roller bearing, when the variator lifts the belt, it pulls the belt and presses on the crankshaft liner - this situation gnaws through the liner and when pulling the crankshaft along the stops, there may be a gap, and after a while crankshaft knock.
These engines were machined by Ridley from castings. These have high quality heavy duty bearings on the 1-inch power takeoff side. The crankcase cover uses no gasket and has never leaked. The camshaft and crankshaft clearances are steel shimmed to prevent excessive side play. Those modifications prevent any damage.
@@KT111 what full model engine ?
@@dimalopatin563 The basic engineering is the Briggs and Stratton Vanguard 570 cc V Twin 350000 series. That said, these engines were never at the Briggs factory, each of parts were bought from the forger/caster that Briggs used. Even the camshafts were blank forges with no centers or machine work.

I have disiel moto ant this moment my moto to comet 40 cluth , I wount change and put on magnum 44 . why don't you put a spring ring that goes around the weights
When these little motorcycles were built, they found the garter spring ring could pop out of the grooves on the weights during rapid acceleration, deceleration and cause damage to the inside of the drive housing making it unusable.
@@KT111 Thank you for your very interesting and accurate answer! Tell me how the 44 magnum works without a ring spring? He doesn't want to drive, how do you start the engine? when does rpm engagement start? Look at my motorcycle, I have 3 diesel motorcycles. I'm glad you wrote!

@@KT111 yes, i looked further, they are investment collectibles :)
Making the top removable was a very clever idea by Fuji. I spoke with a gentleman who owns an LM-1 at a local airshow and he siad they used it for all sorts of cargo and could even lower a stretcher into it if needed for medical evac. Certainly looks like a good place for water to come in though.
The training manual shows the co-pilot seat turned around aft with the large camera mounted in the cabin. One of the books shows a large A-frame over the top of the fuselage opening to lower the camera in. This plane had the pilot camera switch. All the wire bundles and connectors for the camera had been cut off under the floorboards and behind the instrument panel. When removed, the pile of unused wires weighed 27 pounds. We tried to save part of the old seal for history, but it just crumbled apart.
@@KT111 that sounds really neat! 27 pounds of wires is pretty impressive too. I wish there was a way for me to see those books. Doesn't seem like any of the Fuji manuals have ever been digitized, and very few printed copies seem to exist. I've been assembling a library of all the various T-34 manuals, but getting access to the Japanese documents has been near impossible.
@@chadkennedy7261 True. We have even contacted Subaru and they have no information that far back. I have tried contacting airplane museums in Japan but no responses.

Do you know the model # of the Nikki 27 mm carb. I am needing a kit for mine.Thanks. These are great videos, very informative. Thanks,Allan
Hi Allan, Thanks for the complement. I get my engine parts from Briggs & Stratton on line store. On the carburetor flange there should be the number 621266-081. Other numbers should be 15G and 808241. The overhaul kit number is 842873. Be sure you are sitting down when you see the price. I just order the parts needed using their parts diagram for the 350400 engines. Page 6 (121D) has the carburetor parts. Don't trust their jet part numbers as they will be too rich for these engines. On the carb, the L is the rear cylinder and main jet is 84, the R is the front cylinder and the 86 jet. Both idle jets are 52. I have never been able to find the part numbers for the jets or float needle. The Briggs repair manual is 272144-604. That will have the torques and other information. Hope this helps and please subscribe.
@@KT111 Thanks a bunch. I will look them. I think coming up with a mikuni carb swap would be good too.
@@allanmcclendon8364 If I may make a suggestion. The valves out of adjustment can cause the engine to run rich. These have a very high performance cam shaft installed and the valves need to be set between 0.005 and 0.006 clearance to work correctly. You can check the front valves by removing the rocker cover. I suspect you will find 0.009 to 0.011 clearance. Spin the push rods to check they aren't bent, they are all steel. If so, the rear valves will need adjusting too. The tailpipes, front belt cover, belt, drive pully and flywheel cover will need to be removed. Sit the frame on wood blocks and remove the 5 engine mount bolts. The fifth bolt is behind the left drive pully, the left front bolt head is machined for the side stand spring bracket. The engine can be tilted to get the rear rocker box cover off.
@@KT111 Thanks again for all the info. I have two of these speedsters. I had one running great and now it wont start. It lost brake fluid on the rear brake I filled the reservoir but still nothing. whats the difference between the two setups? just the driver spring?
The drive spring and washer is the same on both. The Type 2 has a floating bronze bushing, so the belt doesn't heat up on the shaft and a pressed on steel collar to give a longer support area when idling. The belt is shorter due to the bushing diameter.

Nice, absolutely useful.👍.
Thank you.
Do you have a wiring diagram of this setup. . I'm having issues with spark and I want to replace with simple components as I've had 3 digital boxes go bad.
Hi BK, is it the 4-relay pack you are having problems with?
I traced the wiring for my wiring diagram. On the left side below the seat there should be a wire bundle with 10 wires zip tied to the frame. Crimped connectors are there. Most electrical problems will be loose wires in that location. The ground wire for the magnetos is the gray with a black stripe. If that connector is cut, the mags will be on and there should be spark. A single pole single throw switch can be used on the gray/black wire going to the front of the bike. Switch ON will ground the magnetos, no spark. Switch OFF will remove the ground and it should have spark. There is a 1N-4007 diode at each magneto slip on connector. Under the frame below the seat post there should be three numbers stamped. If I know the number, I can help more.
