I like the OPR stuff a lot more these days. 10ed 40k, the Primaris stuff and the massive lore violation with the Custodes have pretty much killed all of my interest in 40k at this point, so it's great to have OPR as a solid alternative. I will say I'm not a huge fan of the unit size rules (combined units). My understanding of this is that if I want a 10-woman unit of Warrior Sisters, I need to buy two sergeant upgrades, two of any equipment upgrades like the Canticle Megaphone. I wish there was an option to just buy more models for the unit instead of the Combined Units rule; it feels needlessly clunky. Also, I'm not in love with the fact that you only ever hit on 6's in melee combat. My understanding is that if neither side is wiped out, then the next turn the other unit would still need to "charge" in again because they moved back 1" so would again only hit on 6's.

Cool guide! I play a lot fb6, fb7, blood bowl season 2 (or 7 if you count all previous bb's) and tow but have few units for AoS (2.000 orruks, stormcast with lunineth allies, gloomspite and seraphon) and i really like to get into playing this. Doesnt seem to be big step up from what im used to.

My one issue with this game is I want a hit roll and a wound roll not just combined into 1

I appreciate this video because I’ve seen a lot of hype about this game but I can see now that it’s really not for me. I totally understand the appeal but I personal enjoy the more intricate rule system that 40k offers despite it’s unfortunate aspects. Glad people are enjoying this though

I'm working on a hybrid world where you can play high technology verses the fantasy and the other player made lists, I.E. WW1, WW2, Napoleonic, etc. I'm moving house so it will be a little while before I can drop it on the discord. I'm also thinking about an army in the Star Trek style.

I need clarity on the dispelling blood points rule, if I cast a buff spell that give me attacks that score twice on 6s. Do they roll when the spell is cast? Before I attack, surely they do not roll for each 6 I roll? As 20 zombies attacking 40 times, I could roll 10 6s. That would be crazy.

OPR, the bs system made by tourney 40k players in the USA, as they wanted to be able to look at and through rules much quicker, while playing. However what that brought with it is a very two sided medal: Yes you can read the rules much faster, yes new players have it easier to catch on and yes the game is less complex, but the negatives ... oh boy. Many factions lost their charm and/or uniqueness, casual, fun and scenario play got a devastating hit compared with older editions, streamlining rules that extensively creates immense pressure on core rules with 0 loop holes, eveything has to be understandable, etc. The game has more loop holes than a swiss cheese and being able to understand the various british slangs is easier than all kinds of certain rule scenarios. Furthermore many unit types are absolutely useless, unless you stack a bazillion buffs on them, like indirect firing ones and flyers (both in 40k and current OPR Grimdark). Talking about buffs and unit, as OPR rules by design have everything about a unit in their rules description, army wide wargear, special wargear, etc. do not exists. And as you can't really balance certain things army wide anymore, guess what, you've to balance every single unit well, an impossible task; See for example Aeldari and Necrons in 40K. And what you can rule army wide, can easily get out of hand or the opposite. The current OPR are so minimalistic, that they might serve for a quick skirmish fun with some random units, but that's about it. They do not allow for uniqueness, specialisation, lore accurate stuff, etc. Long term they are boring you out a lot! And do not get me started on all the exploits, unclear stuff and more. I just can't understand why it is such a hurdle to read through a few more pages, like The Old World does it, what's the harm? The reward is so much better than OPR and current 40k and apparently AoS 4th can give you, that you never want to miss it and play like it again! Well might not be the best for tourney play, but considering more than 70% according to GW play casual, ... Oh and a little fun fact, in Europe and Japan OPR is in generally not liked at all.

I hopped off the GW treadmill a few years ago, and have not regretted it for the moment. The best part is that the people who play systems other than GW seem to be less salty and more mature in general.

I love 1-page. We made our own rules for our models and I win all the time. My opponent have lage robots and I have 3 star destroyers. His weapons can't reach my star destroyers and I can use orbital bombardment every turn. Great game.

Now I want to stop painting my Lumineth and want to start painting DoK…

Venom encrusted weapons is for melee attacks only. You can't use it for shooting weapons.

10:43 "When moving your unit, the models in that unit must stay WITHIN 1 inch of another model in that unit AND at least 9 inches AWAY from all other models in the unit" How is this supposed to work? Is it that the whole unit should not be spread over an area of more than 9 inches in diameter?

There are no command abilities in DoK that allow you tou spend a CP to increase the Battle Rite buff. But there is a prayer, a command trait and a warscrole ability that allows you to do it on one unit, all of these can stack as well (which is arguably way better)

Reminds me of that time in second edition when deathrattle skeletons got more attacks the more of them there were. You could give them more 1 more form a wight king, another from a vampire lord and one more from lord of nagashizzar command trait. You could also run them as a block of 40. All in all 6 attacks per model = 240 attacks at 2” range, 4+ 4+ no rend 1 damage with AoA. And they could fight twice with Vanhels dance macabre from a necromancer. Those were the glory days. I have a video of myself getting this combo to work once versus a friend. I put every die in the house in a tray, got up in a chair and dumped them all in the ground. We died laughing.

Fun watch! Just FYI on the crits. When you hit a component that has multiple crit locations, the item does stop functioning, but the other locations are not also crossed off, they can still absorb critical hits. Also if you roll a "roll again" on a location, you need to re-roll the bracket roll as well. Or else items in bracket 4-6 segment with "roll again"'s are more likely statistically to be hit then the items in the full lower bracket 1-3.

11:12 You must choose your battle tactic "at the start of the hero phase", if there are other things you can do that are denoted as "at the start of your hero phase" (e.g. performing heroic actions) you can choose in what order you do them. So you can perform heroic actions before choosing your battle tactic.

Great talk! Maybe in future could add point to agenda to talk about army viability on 1k points, how to approach that. No big tournament does that, but it's where everyone (many? some?) starts at local game stores.

I'm very new... this has been extremely helpful! I'm alil confused on a combat phase. When the unit has committed to attack another unit. If I have 5 models attacking a unit of 10. Am I only allowed to attack an equal number of models to my own, or am I allowed to attack all 10( if with attacking inches)?
