I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie so much, and that you pointed out the arc Katniss went through! I think this movie is absolutely underrated-- out of the 4, it's most people's least favorite, but it is genuinely my favorite out of all of them. In the first 2 movies, Katniss's entire drive and motivation is just trying to survive and keep her loved ones alive and occasionally doing something out of instinct that shows her genuine humanity, which moves other people to rebellion-- even though that's not her intent. Most of it all moves so fast she doesn't have time to think through what she's doing or the impact it will have on other people, it's all survival instincts and humanity impulses. This movie is the first time we see her actually have time to think about things and make the active decision to get involved. Her speech in District 8 *_always_* gives me the biggest chills because that's her turning point; the first action she takes that isn't directly linked to saving/protecting herself or someone she loves, but because she is taking a stand. For the first time, she is not forced into a fight, she *_chooses_* to join the fight! If you made it to the end of my comment, thank you for coming to my TedTalk 🥰

Katniss does want to serve the revolution. She makes up her mind in the second book when she meets rebels fleeing but that isn't shown in the 2nd movie. But then they are sent back into the games and Peeta is taken. That breaks her mentally which is why the 3rd book and movie start with Katniss in an infirmary. When you read it, this girl is broken to the point where she has a breakdown and is sedated about every 3-4 chapters. Katniss became the symbol of the revolution to save Peeta, that's why she keeps going and why she stops also when Snow threatens her with the roses. She doesn't have the capacity for more because she's been through so much. The movies are great, I highly enjoy them but they're kind of like fanfiction. The real story is so much darker and Book Katniss is much smarter, deeper, harsher, braver, etc. than onscreen. Peeta too, so much of Peeta got cut out, all the wonderful things he does. And of course their love story which began before the games. Hamisch, Gale, Elsie, the mom, Prim, etc. are all different in the books too. Snow is probably the most true-to-form character.

The names are one per year the accumulate but say a family from the seam (Poor part of 12) take teshery for each member it one more name Gale has 5 (he has been doing it since he was 12) so as he ages his times increase to 42 his name is in the reaping at the age of 18 while Katniss has 22 do the fact she only had 3 people to feed with teshery

Also, also . . . The Hound is one of my favorite characters. He and Pod and are among a handful of people that go through life in service of their kings and still have an honest approach to life. HIs bad actions such as the butcher boy kill is often looked at by viewers who knew the whole story. His version was as a sworn protector of the King and Prince, to follow orders. He was told that some wild kid attacked and threaten his charge. His duty was to eliminate the threat much like a bodyguard would do in modern times. He had no knowledge or right to question his order. Capture and eliminate the threats to keep your Prince safe. He never made excuses for the bad aftermath and never lied or sugar coated his involvement.

Also, I would venture that green fire is the wildfire burning much like some of our natural gasses will burn blue. The orange fire was the secondary damage such as the wooden ship parts that are burning at a cooler level/ temp.

This was the last episode with Ser Ilyn Payne. The actor got cancer and had to quit the show.

This is my favorite episode of season 2 and one of my favorite episodes of the whole show. The Rains of Castamere is such a memorable song that will hear more often in the next episodes.

All Katniss wanted from the beginning was to save her loved ones. She was 16 when the story started and she spent half her life trying to make ends meet, to survive. She never cared about the system or the country or any uprising, rebellion. She just wanted her loved ones to be alive and not starve. You can’t blame her for not giving a f about revolution whatsoever.

They play up the love triangle in the movie bc of twilight’s successful love triangle. In the book it’s different

It is worth mentioning that Cato is still a child he was raised in a district that honored victory in the games heavily and Katniss shooting him at the end is a mercy because she realizes that he is just another victim in the games. Even if he is there enemy in the arena he’s another district citizen and he’s trying to survivez

If they really understood Katniss, they would have prioritized Peeta's safe escape to 13 just as much as hers. I am still of the mind they should have told him (even a little bit) about the Plan. His goals were in alignment with theirs, he wouldn't have had to act much and is not opposed to withholding info from Katniss to keep her safe 🤷‍♀️ but I know narratively, the story needed him to be captured 😔😮‍💨

51:57 harry unlocked a genuine happy memory by talking with serious and the offer to live him so harry wouldnt have to go back to his aunts and uncles place. Before he was using a “fake” memory which is really just the thought of his parents and love. Which is strong but he has to technically imagine them as he doesn’t have a memory of them directly from them, only what people have told him and pictures he’s seen of them

I read the books before the show. When I read this scene I threw the book across the room where it stayed for two weeks before I was able to pick it back up again. I feel your pain!

To echo what others said, Katniss NEVER wanted war or to be the face of it. She said that in the beginning of the second movie. In fact, in the beginning of the first movie, Gale suggested they run away before the first games. She laughed about that defiance.

The thing about Gale and Katniss’s relationship is that Gale had romantic feelings for Katniss, Katniss only had platonic feelings for Gale, but she felt like she was supposed to have romantic feelings for him.
