The rising popularity of Vinyl (And CD's)
มุมมอง 2145 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this video I will explain my reasons why I think collecting vinyl (and other physical media like CD's) is so popular these days. I have been collecting since 2020, and have seen a big increase in the amount of people showing an interest in the hobby. I think this is an exciting development, and welcome everybody who's getting into collecting themselves.
Battlefront 2 is the best Star Wars experience

I still play Battlefront 2. It can be incredibly sucky to play, but it is also THE most fun Star Wars multiplayer game in my opinion. I had a lot of fun making this video, I hope you enjoy watching this one :D Also, I apologise for the poor audio quality. I set up my mic too close. I'm sure it won't happen again!

The worst plot points of Yakuza: Like A Dragon

I've played every Yakuza game from 0 to 7, and currently playing Gaiden and Ishin. So yeah, I do consider myself to be a fan of the franchise. I can, however, still realise the flaws these games have. And the story of Yakuza: Like a Dragon has a few that I found interesting enough to talk about.

    Taris and endire spire are probably the funnest part of the whole game. It sucks we can't new game plus to get new experience with all the party members and a lightsaber. Maybe the remake could rectify this, if all the voice actors came back. Endar spire is similar to the star forge. Intense desperate fighting.

    This is SO strange to listen to - I have heard of them (and I'm absolutely nobody from nowhere), along with ACRES of people who grew up in the early 80s! They were Top 40 in the UK with "Ghosts" and "Quiet Life" and "All Tomorrow's Parties" and all over the telly and radio and in magazines as they were a very photogenic band. A lot of us still have the vinyl and tapes from back then (an era when SEO hadn't been dreamt up and wasn't a concern for musicians). Then we bought the CD reissues when they came out. Many of the fans who loved them at the time still love them today with a great passion. Regarding hindsight, David Sylvian went onto solid solo success with LOADS of collaborators, including Robert Fripp who would have attracted the considerable King Crimson fanbase. Moreover Richard Barbieri was in Porcupine Tree who eventually picked up a colossal following who would have been able to read about his previous band. Mick Karn as you note was an incredibly talented bassist who no one has been able to come close to. I would not use Spotify streams as a reliable measure of either a band or a song's popularity. For everyone who loves that service there are people who will never use it for the way it fails to proportionally reward the musicians. Moreover it is not a measure of the number of times songs are played in the privacy of people's homes who own the physical media. It is not a measure of concert ticket sales, radio plays, friends making compilation tapes, other streaming services that have different market shares in different parts of the world, and other places you can find the music. Streaming numbers are meaningless compared to WHY someone will pay 20 Euros for a copy of "Adolescent Sex". Original pressings of classic albums are sought after because they are often masterpieces. One final note for now - Robert Fripp did not use an eBow on "Heroes" - he turned his amplifier up loud in a big room in the studio, and marked out on the floor the best places where he got the feedback for the very sparse collection of notes he used. Then he walked backwards and forwards to "play" the amplifier feedback along with his guitar to get the long sustaining sounds that are so characteristic in that song.

    while I definitely have heard of Japan this was such a fun video to watch (or I guess to listen to...). I haven't really had a chance to properly discuss them with anybody so this is probably going to be waay longer than it has to be so I apologise in advance. I too have discovered that they are relatively unknown. at least I haven't really heard of them for a pretty long time despite being very interested in seventies music. when I did though... I thought they were boring and dropped them until suddenly coming back to them exactly a year later and just DEVOURING their catalogue. guess you just have to be in the right headspace and really give some artists a chance. I feel like Japan can indeed be somewhat hard to get into.. but it makes it all the more worth it when you actually succeed. I'm extremely happy I stumbled upon them again though, they've became the catalyst that made me realise how much I love electronic music and synth-pop in particular and after years of not practicing piano even picking up a synthesizer. (and it's freaking awesome!!! it's exactly what I felt was missing in standard pianos and romplers for me and it's so interesting and fascinating too!) they've also introduced me to YMO and Ryuichi Sakamoto and sparked my interest in the whole new wave and new romantic scene.. I just can't be grateful enough for that. Japan are just plain awesome. They are so.. interesting to listen to. I really like how their songs can be so different yet feel so cohesive with one another. Their albums really do feel like a natural progression and a surprisingly fast one, too. I was very glad with the fact you've found Adolescent Sex to be great. it really doesn't get the recognition it deserves, with most of the fans and the band members themselves discarding it as some cringe teenage accident when in reality it's plain awesome. Television is such a good song and it's a very solid album in general and it just sounds so.. special, especially for a debut one, even if it did initially bore me when I tried listening to the band for the first time... and I really do like Sylvian's early vocals too. and you like Alien!!!! it's definitely in my Japan top 5 and I've never really seen anybody talk about it. It has the least amount of listens on Spotify in the whole album I believe and it's totally undeserved, it's just so cool, the sax part is just so.. satisfying to listen to, it just scratches my brain in the right way. but I can probably say something like this about most, if not all, Japan songs. they just sound right. ALSO the solo stuff Japan's ex members have released since they split is incredible. I'm nowhere close to have listened to all of it since there's just so much but from what I've listened to it's very, very good (how utterly shocked I was when I've found out that Mick Karn had collaborated with Peter Murphy of all people! And that is sounds awesome!! ). And I find it very endearing that they've all (except for Rob Dean I suppose..), mostly Jansen, Barbieri and Karn, of course, remained musical collaborators to this day. Sometimes it really makes you wonder what could've happened if they haven't split.. well, David would've probably drove everyone insane. their whole story is kinda tragic if you really think about it.. Also2 this is just thinking aloud but I've always felt weird about people calling early Japan glam rock. I don't know, I guess this term is reserved only for Roxy, T. Rex, Bowie, perhaps Cockney Rebel and maaybe a few others.. it's not much of a music genre though, more like a style I'd say. and I feel like Japan is kinda far from it though they were big fans. I've always seen Adolescent Sex and side A of Obscure Alternatives as glam punk/funk albums, closer to New York Dolls territory. but I guess it doesn't really matter.. just had to get it off my chest. another thing I wanted to address is.... BURNING BRIDGES IN SKIBIDI TOILET????????? this is made even more shocking by the fact that i KNOW that Dafuqboom is a new wave fan and I skimmed through all of his early videos only to find Ultravox, Depeche Mode and even The Cure there but... JAPAN??? and not in some small old one but IN SKIBIDI TOILET ITSELF. it took me a minute to actually find it but god. I don't know how I feel about it for now but.. thank you for shining a light on this. this is some serious and hilarious news... also3! I only now realise I've never really seen the insides of any of their vinyls before, only fully sealed on a record store shelf. and god are they gorgeous! makes me want to own a vinyl player so much more.. but alas. I am quite satisfied with their CDs though. I've managed to get the Remastered digipak edition of Assemblage and Quiet Life (now hunting for the first two albums in this edition as well but to no avail by far) and they are very pretty and I really love their booklets! There's some covers of their singles and a very nice foreword by Paul Rymer. but I think I've already said more than enough.. well thanks for reading if you actually did! (also Oil on Canvas is amazing. I care. I've recently gotten it on CD too and i just can't stop listening to it..) P.S.: I just checked your channel out and it turns out you have a video on KOTOR and I've seen it like a year ago?? that is just so cool. I'm definitely subscribing this time. who knows what other topic I'm interested in you might suddenly do a video on... XD

    Taris is great for its sense of atmosphere. The tension on the quarantined planet is palpable, you feel the anxiety, the nervousness when talking to people, and if you let yourself be immersed in the game and its story, it resonates with your own anxiety and sense of urgency because you need to find Bastila and get off the damn rock, but between the Sith blockade and the plague, everything is locked down. On the surface, the planet's society appears prosperous and free, but it's a facade. And every time you think you're close to figuring a way out, you realize you're further from your goal than you thought. Yes, the planet also gradually introduces various elements of gameplay in a pretty smooth way, but that's not why it's so good.

    At this point the only studio I trust with a remake of Kotor is Larian Studios. One thing I fear the most is the fact that I know they will change the combat gameplay, and that is a huge reason I love the game. Not that real time can't be fun, but to me Kotor 1 & 2, as well as, Dragon age had the best combat. Since then not one game I know of has played like it except DOS and BG3 but even those are turn based and is not quite the same.

    • @timbean8768
      @timbean8768 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Good point! I respect Larian's commitment and attention to detail, but I've never liked their turn-based gameplay. I enjoy the real time with pause of KOTOR and Dragon Age, to me that's the best of both worlds.

    I didn't ever finish either KOTOR until 2020, I started by dabbling with KOTOR 2 in 2006 and didn't even try KOTOR 1 until 2012. Taris isn't a bad planet, most people are just antsy because they wanna hurry up and become their Jedi class. What I've found with KOTOR 1 is, while the main story is great, everything else just reeeaaaaallyyyyyyyyy sucks. Side missions are 9/10 times VERY boring stories with a "canon" resolution and a super caricatured "evil" alternate resolution. Evil choice usually just resulting in slightly more EXP due to killing everyone for no real reason, and +100 credits because "evil is the shortcut to money and power" or whatever, neither of which makes a significant difference to us as players.

    Kotor remakes are most likely never gonna happen. EA will see to it failing if its ever released. Here me out here. 60$ copy and paste kotor 1 and 2 newer graphics like in the star wars fallen jedi/order (the one with Cal Kester) dont change any gameplay, bugs, story, nothing.
