The Team at Smartirrigation.com shows the smart way to program advanced watering techniques on any Hunter irrigation (sprinkler) controller with a central control dial (such as x-core, X2, Pro-C, EC, XC, and SRC).
These advanced techniques include:
- Running multiple programs (A, B, C)
- Using multiple program start times
- Programming in the Cycle-and-Soak watering technique
- Using the interval-cycle watering days menu
Chris also warns against a number of costly mistakes that we commonly find people make when programming these advanced techniques.

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      According to rainbird, and our experience, they do come factory preset for their maximum distance. You can check their install guide here: www.rainbird.com/media/4486, where it says "The factory default setting is the maximum range for each model." However, they might not have in your case. It would be interesting to see if this was an anomaly with a certain batch, or if rainbird has changed their setting procedure without updating their literature. Thanks for letting us know and we'll keep an eye out

    Q. I have this time (ESP Modular) master valve installed right after the 5HP pump in my back yard, and would like to know what's the right connection for the wirings? Currently, two wires coming from the master valve, one installed in C and the other wire installed under station 1 ! I am not sure if this is right or not. Why I am I asking? well, because when i test all valve, station one works only and the other stations (from 1-7) doesn't work! This device was set for something else, and I am now trying to use it for some other irrigation layout in my backyard. TIA all for the help if anyone can help in this matter. Mohamed Dubai

      @SmartIrrigation1 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Mohamed, its hard to say without seeing the controller or wiring (if you want more of a back and forth with images, you can look at joining our Patreon at www.patreon.com/SmartIrrigation/), but generally you want to have any pump wired into the "MV" or "Master Valve" or "P" or "Pump" terminal on the controller, and then also make sure that the master valve or pump option is turned on in the controllers settings. Hope this helps!

    I did not see the part where the right stop was adjusted .it only showed how to adjust the ark by pushing down on the beige ring and then later by twisting the rotory adjustment it did the same thing adjusting the ark or distance. When the video started it was already shooting at 180°. Am I missing something?

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The right stop is adjusted by pressing down on the beige ring (2:40 in the video), where we adjust from 90 degrees to 180 degrees, then down to 0 degrees, then back up again. The distance is adjusted by the black side ring that is below the colored top ring (3:25 in the video). If you are using rotary nozzles that do no have that black side ring to adjust the distance, you would have Gen 1 rotary nozzles, which adjust differently. And remember, the left stop does not get adjusted, you need to set that by ratcheting the riser stem of the spray body itself, as shown in 1:37 in the video.

    My controller does not show raindrops and dashes in the “days to water setting” rather it show raindrops and circled raindrops. Which is which? For now I’m assuming the uncircled raindrops are ON. Please clarify, as I don’t want to leave for the Arizona summer and have no irrigation on in my yard in 115 degree weather.

    Very good information! I have a problem. The clock and date on my Hunter programmer resets every time there is a power outage. It is normal? Thank you

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They usally have a back up battery that keeps the time during power outages but if that dies that issue will occur. Some models you can change the back up battery (3v button cell in the x-core, or a 9v in the pro-C), although some of the newer controllers like the X2, unfortunately, have it permently attached to the circuit board and when it's dead it is very hard to change. A external power bank could be a solution if the controller is indoor.

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I have been having a devil of a time with our new sprinkler system. The installers didn't explain this much in detail, and I have two heads that are throwing too far onto bushes that are "low water required." It's been killing my bushes. Now I can reduce the throw distance of this 15ft-VAN and save my bushes! I am extremely appreciative for this educational video.

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are most welcome! I am glad our video helped! But remember the tip in the video: its always best to pick a spray nozzle of the correct distance since turning the spray down more than a few feet really messes up its watering efficiency. So if you need to turn your 15van down to 12 feet or less, its probably best to switch out the nozzle with a smaller one. Happy watering!

    • @HaileyP2011
      @HaileyP2011 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SmartIrrigation1 - Yes! Definitely noted. I measured the distance, and the sprinkler only needs to reach 12.5 feet in that area before hitting the bushes. Then I noticed that a 15ft half-circle was also spraying into the bushes at its farthest left corner. I reduced both of them and all seems to be much better! Hopefully my pittisporum bushes will get relief. I can increase the throw distance once we get to summer and the Texas heat scorches the bushes a bit too much. I'm just glad I know how to do it thanks to your video.

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Unfortunately a 4-station controller can only run 4 separate zones (unless your controller is modular, but yours isn't based on the description). So to add a zone you would need to get a 6-station controller. Some people wire 2 different valve wires into the same zone on the controller, but residential-grade controllers aren't made to run 2 valves at one and you can run into electrical issues that way. There are other after market ways of splitting zones, but none leave you with the ability to control them separately from your current controller.

    Can you replace old fixed head nozzles with Rvan heads - 20 yr old sprinkler system.

    • @SmartIrrigation1
      @SmartIrrigation1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Typically yes, you can, as long as the spray body has a removable nozzle and the same threads. If your spray bodies are rainbird 1800s, then you definitely can. Just be careful about watering rates because RVAN nozzles water slower than the old spray heads. Check out our "watering times" article website at www.smartirrigation.com for more information on precipitation rates!

    Question- I went through all the steps and now have my system programmed and set to run. I have a Hunter X Core system controller. The screen displays a bunch of horizontal dashes on the left of the screen and also the word "off." I saw on the video that the display showed the date after being programmed and set to run. Today is not a watering day. Will my system turn on the next watering day?

      The horizonatl dashes are the seasonal adjust, most likely , and 10 of them would be normal for full watering of your selected run time as for the "Off" that indicates the controller is OFF . It is hard to diagnose the issue without being there in person but the controller itself may have issues. Yes the time of day would be normal. How old is your controller?

    I have a quarter pattern. Can I just change out the riser for a 360 riser insert?

      Hi, you can certainly change out the fixed-pattern quarter spray nozzle to a different fixed-pattern (or adjustable patter). As per the parts of the spray shown at 1:27 in our video, just unscrew (counterclockwise) the old spray nozzle from the riser/stem, and while still holding up the riser/stem screw on (clockwise) the new spray nozzle

      We plan on doing a more advanced features video when the funding becomes available. Please consider supporting or channel. As for now it is as simple as putting in the 1st program A but you choose program B or C first. The controller will read all the commands in all programs and run them.

    I mistakenly took off the nozzle top while it was not running and gush of water came out. I turned off sprinkler and it went down. Now turning on sprinkler its not popping out and water is coming out. How zi can put the top nozzle back?

      Ah yes, this is something that can happen by accident. The easiest way to fix this is to see if you can just put the nozzle in the open hole, press it down, and see if you can screw it is as many turns (clockwise) as you can, and then use your fingers to lift it up (hoping it threaded enough) to finish screwing it the rest. I tried typing out other, more complicated ways, but it just didn't work as a comment. It might be something we can make a video for in the future (or, if you join our patreon to support us and we do have a tier where was can provide a personalize trouble shooting video for you!). Hopefully that helps

      I put my finger over the hole so the water pressure made it pop back up. Took some patience but it eventually popped up enough i could pull the rest out by hand.
