Beer League Bum hockey reviews
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 13 ม.ค. 2021
Unbiased, self financed, no punches pulled hockey gear review channel. I have loved trying the latest and greatest hockey gear since I started playing 15 years ago. I always bought the top gear, sticks, skates and protective. I now want to help others by preventing them from buying a 350$ stick they will hate. If its new and just released I will be reviewing it so you can make the best decision in your gear purchase. But also, I do this for fun. I'm just a beer leaguer that's 40 years old with Rheumatoid arthritis so don't need no bs, so keep it clean other wise you outa here.
Lets discuss Expected stick Durability one last time all brands
This is the last video I'm ever doing on stick durability because I'm sick of the topic. Expected durability is what matters when purchasing a stick and looking out for the red flags of defects and poorly tested products that fail quickly. Unfortunately it cuts out at the end 30 seconds for computer issues but you get the idea. Thanks!

CCM XF pro stick gives Tacks a bad name

I worked for a pro shop and talked to some of these companies. Typically, if a stick breaks quickly it was a manufacturer defect. They slip through the stress testing and thats why they break so quickly once you use them in a game or practice (this is why you get the 30 day warranty basically). The break on the inside was so miniscule, but once its put to its proper use, the chances of it breaking increase. The weight doesn't really effect it, materials are simultaneously getting lighter and stronger everyday. Ive had a top of the light stick last me 3 years, only reason it broke was because the blade got snap between the boards. But sticks break on the inside way before they actually snap on the ice
Don’t really understand this comment sorry. To clarify manufacturing defects are more indicative of true right now where a design flaw is more ccm right now. We went through very good times with ccms ft5-6, trigger 6-7 but now ccm is terrible with the blades. True has been shit for years.
My trigger 9 pro broke in the same exact spot… EXACT same spot like yours
Unfortunately it’s very common and a lot of people aren’t happy about it expensive defect
Peloton! Yessss
Legit for hockey. Builds stamina but at high resistance leg strength
Great video
Much appreciated
Good stuff! I always would say it's about your height and how long the stick is as a starting point. Simple physics, it's how hard you push against the lever (bottom hand), and the distance from your bottom hand to the ice (stick length). That's why flex increases when you cut your stick down. If you're 5'7" you probably need a 65 flex cut down which brings it closer to 85 flex. If you're 6' you can probably use an 85 flex full length. If you're 6'5" you probably need 100+ flex with an extension plug which brings it closer to 85 flex.
I have an updated video of this coming in about 2 weeks. More in line with shooting
Hi Boomer, any suggestions for kiddos? Not sure if you have kids playing or not. My son is a 11yo forward, small at 4’9” and 80ish lbs. I am leaning towards a Rekker Legend or Pro Red Line low kick in lowest flex they offer at junior sticks.
Unfortunately I don’t have kids playing, and without experience with Junior sticks I can’t say for certain the tech and performance translates when the sticks are way smaller and flex goes way down. I would suggest follow my usual guidelines on recommended sticks in the tier list pro stock included and go from there and see if he enjoys the sticks. The tiniest experience I have is a women I know that is tiny and runs junior sticks and she got a vision over the ribcore and said it was different so must have some merit but I don’t like to talk out if my experience zone
Thanks for the prompt reply! Did you test the hybrid (VF) prostock sticks? I’ll Stop bugging you!
@ not yet. I actually reached out to gepetto and said I keep getting asked to test his sticks and just don’t have the budget yet and mean while he’s sending all three lines to hockey reviews. Haven’t heard back yet though
i have used CCM stage 2 for the past 4,5 or 6 yrs....who knows but they are super durable for me and they have pretty good pop to them...sure the lighter ones feel great but they last a month in house hockey and for 300 bucks or more a pop, forget that...don't have a sugar momma for that...i usually get the sticks 2 for 200 bucks
Not sure what a ccm stage 2 is, but when speaking of durability here we are talking about the top end sticks. The lower you go and the lower the price usually heavier and more solid materials for construction increase durability but performance drops
I fell for the true stick scam this fall. Never again. I'm back to pro stock hockey sticks with the og blue.
Good choice. I do my best to test sticks find the problems and communicate with the hockey community spending the money on these companies and I just find sometimes people just aren’t taking it seriously. When you’re talking about a consumable that is 400$ that could last 4 min or 4 months it’s so important that you have the information. It’s why hockey tutorial and the alike piss me off
That's a 'dragsnapper', but we all have our limitations😅
🤷♂️ as I’m joking about being Bédard wearing his jersey and clearly not a pro hockey player I think we all know I’m Not actually shooting g like Bédard
with sticks, really don’t care about durability, all I really care about is the performance, it sucks when you break them, but it’s eventually gonna happen
Hmmm so busting a stick at 2 weeks and then again a week later to be down 450$ is ok? I would have to disagree there is some level of expected durability even for a 450$ 325 gram stick. One game isn’t acceptable
@ all of my sticks usually last me the whole season, being on the ice 5-7 days a week. well for me i’m pretty short, I like to buy jr sticks, get extensions with them which costs me just under $300
@rydenhaze10 can’t comment much on junior sticks as no experience but them lasting that long is insane
My twitch just broke custom and all but I got 6 weeks out of it. This was longer then expected from it and I have another one coming just be ready to break them and spend a lot of money for new one.
Btw not expecting 6 weeks I was expecting more like 2-3 but happy it lasted this long
Guess depends on usage I just broke my tracer only two weeks in probably like 6 games I think playing center though sucks either way twitch lasting 6 weeks if playing 2-3 a week is decent
@ I broke my tracer in 6 days blocked a shot with it and broke
@ also used it constantly for the 6 weeks prob like at least 4-5 times a week whether it was practice or games
The twitch
Your video reviews are awesome! I have to buy a new stick and I can't decide between the warrior qr6 pro, and the Ft6 pro by CCM. Can you please help me decide? Thanks!
Thank you I’m glad I love the ft6 pro I hear not used the qr6 pro yet so I can’t commit how it stacks up. If you did find a ft6 I would think it’s on sale because it’s older so if that’s the case you can’t really go wrong.
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews there is a 40$ difference, so i would rather buy the best shooting stick. We play in a beer league where slapshots are not allowed, so we lean on snappers and wrist shots. I used a Jedspeed Pro2 until this moment, and recently an FT Ghost that broke. I never used a low kick stick, and that is what intrigues me that everyone says in the reviews that low and ultralow sticks are specially good for wrist/snap shots. Thank you for your time! PS. I saw nothing special with the Ghost, the Jestpeed pro 2 seem a bit faster and snappier at he same flex/curve. 85flex p29
@ I also play in one no slap shot league. I generally don’t game low kick sticks except the trigger before helicoid and Bauer agent and twitch. The qr6 something I haven’t used so I can’t comment on how well it performs for those shots over the ft6 or other choices so don’t want to steer in that direction. My friend has a qr6 and said nice weight and feels great but not best shooting low kick sticks he’s used. The ft6 and jet speeds are stiffer flex profiles to accommodate the no slap shots I would drop flex by 5 and allow easier loading and release if you go that route. If you’re using an 85 I may even go 75 in a ft6 unless you are not cutting it at all. If you aren’t cutting g I would use 80
i literally played 5 beer league games/dropins and my legend pro blade has a big crack right in the middle of the blade. first time ever have i experienced this with any stick, will not be buying a sherwood ever again
Yes the legend durability is not the same as the element one as mentioned Sherwood pushed it to far and have lost it.
I mentioned on another video, I broke a PX in 70 minutes of play (iron man tournament so no subs, over multiple games totaling about 70 minutes). I did score something like 9 goals in that time so goals per minute played was fantastic but breaking on the first day sucked. True is sending out a warranty replacement 9x4 so I’ll update on how long it lasts. The PX was purchased without looking at reviews. Not again. I ordered a different brand already to use as soon as I break the 9x4. Curious because I’ve never done a warranty before… if I break the 9x4 in less than 30 days is the warranty stick eligible for warranty? I’ve never broken a stick so fast before so this is my first warranty replacement experience. Love the videos!
Unfortunately no second warranty which is why you have to be so careful with true and helicoid. You can be out 400$ real quick for a poor design on the companies fault. I had same problem with my 9x3 both toast In 4 games. Then helicoids same thing. It’s so disappointing and disheartening
@ well I’ll try to get one goal per ten minutes and see how it goes. 🤣🙁🤣
@ all you can do lol
What did you think the best budget stick for the money is? My current stick is an older pro stock Bauer Nexus 2N Pro that was repaired by Integral. It has worked fine for me for coaching and playing tennis ball hockey with the guys. The blade is starting to chip pretty bad though.
The best budget sticks are pro stocks. Or 1-3 year model clearance. I am now testing the KYC stealth and has same problem as every other budget sticks. It lacks performance no matter what hockey tutorial says. It’s best time look at hockey stick man, and older model sticks then get a “budget stick company”
The high end wood pro sticks from the 90s were incredible. They were light, performed extremely well, were way more durable than any composite stick and had great feel.
Wood is definitely durable
Honestly the trigger 9pro blade is much better and not even as bad as you say just because you hate the brand they’re using for their blades, doesn’t mean they’re bad. Prior to the 9 pro yes. The blade was ass
No objectively they are bad. For durability. Has nothing to do with performance or feel. They break prematurely very easily
@. Used the 9 pro since they came out I have 3, broken 0. I play a decent high level of hockey. You’re just a grade A hater. side note; CCM makes about 4 tiers of the trigger. The pro is for players who are playing high levels of hockey, who don’t care if they are going to break the stick. If you’re worried about breaking the stick the 9k which is stronger. Beer leaguers and house leaguers should not be buying top of the line sticks it’s a waste of money they’re not meant or manufactured to last. sticks break. It’s like the most common equipment malfunction in a hockey.
@Hunter-fd3eg shouldn’t be buying top of the line sticks? Based on what? Why not? I can buy whatever I want. The product should perform without issues. Not break prematurely. You’re 100% correct sticks break. Usually in a reasonable amount of time. If it breaks early, over and over in same spot that is called a defect. Ccm shit the bed get over it. I’m not a hater of ccm at all I praised them for the ft4,5,6 trigger 4,6 and 7 and tacks as3,4. You’re just uninformed If you haven’t broken a stick you are the exception not rule. These things are coming in by the droves online, into stores and because I have access to insider management at a very large hockey store I get information on warranty returns and trends. Guess what the blade is dog shit whether you like it or not. Your one example means nothing. In manufacturing we have things called trends. Ccm is in a downward one. If you want bullshit reviews go see hockey tutorial where they praise everything screwing over everyone never mentioning anything bad ever.
Please review the new ccm vizion
It’s expensive in Canada. And with helicoid I’m not super keen I will think about it
love the new intro!!! I got the XF 2 weeks ago and its already soft in the blade. I think my snapshot was pretty decent, but CCM is falling far from the top.... Great video as per usual
Man that sucks I hate to hear it after spending so much money. Hopefully warranty maybe can switch for an older ccm?
idk what they hype is with these light sticks, a difference of 100-200 grams is almost impossible to notice during gameplay and the heavier sticks seem more durable with more material, sure if your dealing with a difference of lbs then it's an issue. I've been using Sherwood mid level heavier sticks, no issues.
Unfortunately I disagree on 100-200 grams is incredibly notable. Especially from 420 to a 380. It makes a massive difference in game play. I can one hand a puck in a outstretched position with a 380 gram stick far easier from a a strength position than if I was using a 450 gram stick. The happy medium is about 375 or so as best overall. It’s important to understand what you are getting into at different weight levels. The 330 gram, 360, 380, 40, 420 and how they perform and their durability
Only thing that twitched was the toe which chipped first game …
Ouch I feel that
I just got the CCM XF Pro and it is amazing for my needs. I'm getting older, so shifting down from a 105 to 85 flex. As with many, my testing with 85 flex sticks means pucks go off to the right and the stick feels very whippy. With the mid kick point and stiff blade, it's the first 85 flex that I have been able to get used to right out of the box. For stickhandling, it is very light and feels very fast. Last but not least, I can play for weeks and not see a single stick break in my leagues that I play in twice a week. Durability doesn't seem to be much of an issue. CCM sticks aren't for everyone, but they are by far the second most sold stick on the market behind Bauer. They can't be as crappy as these guys say they are.
If you’re using this to each their own but for mid kicks there is far better sticks that would probably help your shot and game much better but again what works for you if you feel it is all that matters. You also mention using 105 flex and that’s extremely rare these days and it’s usually not a good strategy. Because I use so many sticks I find a lot of people come on my channel and say I’m incorrect about a stick because they like it. If you have only used a few sticks here and there a tacks in comparison to something else you have had for years very much will be an improvement. That’s not how I review sticks. So please keep that in mind. It’s great to hear it works for your needs but objectively it’s not great
RIP tacks
Looks that way
15:50 pulse? Is that a new Bauer stick? Sounds nice.
Yes but October so way out
Wait is it October 2025 or 2026?
@ 2025 I know blows
I found something on Reddit for the ft8 pro, it seems like the design is exactly like the trigger 8 pro and it also seems like there isn’t a helicoid blade on it. I think you got your wish 🎉
It’s in some marketing materials and some others I touch on this in my durability vid so we aren’t quite sure but sounds like a hybrid helicoid
ah okay, makes sense. My bad 😅
@ my guess will take 2-3 more releases to remove helicoid completely
Well, I guess I won’t be going back to ccm sticks for that time then
@ ha me either
I'm sure prostockhockeysticks has its own issues, but I'm not sure why anyone would spend modern day prices on these sticks these days, especially CCM. For us beer leaguers, it just doesn't make any sense, let alone for the kids.
Most sticks have pros and cons but there is a significant advantage to knowing how to shoot your style and teaming that with a top stick. That’s kinda my next vid. Doesn’t have to be top top but rocking a wood Sherwood isn’t a good plan
I think they will discontiue the tacks line of stick, i dont see alot of player using them and by looking at the line up, there is only 3 price range on this line of stick now( xfpro, xf and xf70)
It’s basically dead so probably best.
What do you think of the warrior covert qr6 pro stick
Haven’t use it yet other than in demo zones, great weight, balance and grip shooting I thought was behind a few others I did same time but overall it’s probably a great release for warrior
Carbon fibre is amazing. Until its comprises. Carbon fibre is crazy strong. But when it fails, it basically explodes.
Yep aka titan lol but yeah you have to know what you’re getting into with each stick purchase and when people are buying the smoke they really should know they just paid 450$ for an hour of use
I mean 90% of the time you can just buy a stick lower on the family and not a pro model and be perfectly fine lol
Yep also a way around it. Usually only first step down is worth it after that Bette to hit pro, pro stock, stick rack deals etc
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews team sticks are the best bang for your buck imo. Durable and still great features
@@GoatrTheGoalie teams for me a bit heavy but they def durable
I have had two of the newer sherwoods and haven’t had any issues yet. That might be because I use pro stock versions of the sticks compared to the retail versions like my teammates who have had issues with theirs.
The pro stocks could be stronger for sure
I am simply appalled and disgusted at the quality of sticks today. I am currently rocking 3 pro stock Nathan MacKinnon Triggers (1 trigger 2 and 2 trigger 3’s) and I love them to death. they are stiff as hell which is great for me but they also are light enough to make a difference but still feel structurally much more sound than the brands today. it’s horrible that all these companies ask for people to pay these ridiculous prices for products that consistently fail. the other part that bothers me is the fact that these companies refuse to listen to any reviews by honest people. they just listen to the reviews of the people they pay. they don’t fix any issues and insist that these new products are the best they ever made when they are lasting either 2 weeks or 32 days on their 30 day warranty. it’s absolutely diabolical the way the stock market is today. here’s to hoping for change soon ! cheers for the multiple reviews, have been watching for awhile and love the videos and the honesty. keep up the great work !
Thank you and appreciate the comments I always enjoy hearing what others think of some of this stuff.
i could say any random letter and ccm will somehow find a way to make it a shaft shape
So true lol
i loved that ccms design team said “it’s helicoiding time” and helicoided all their sticks.
Haha sounds like a bad song movie line
Im excited for what tps is doing
That should be interesting
Sherwood bougth them quite few years ago
@ maybe we will get some quality products then
@@Max-sn5kt That happened in 2008 😂 I wonder why they they are only now just starting to do something with it.
@@NeNukee Are you saying that sherwood is bringing Tps back? Never heard of that! I think when they bougth them it was to use their technology for carbon stick back in the days, just like bauer did when they aquired itech/mission and easton
Do lower-tier CCM sticks have more durable blades, or do all CCM stick lines have these blades? Thanks!
Once helicoid is removed yes they are better usually 1-2 down line
Never used a True twig and will continue that trend.
That is best lol
so glad you are back cant wait for more content
Lots on way !
my kids tmp pro is still kicking it would never have considered it if it wasn't for you
Now that’s dope! Glad to hear
God do I miss the AS4 Pro 😭
Oh me too…
I wish Bauer would bring back total one / supreme lineup. I loved my total one NXG 87 flex p88 which lasted me about 5 years before being SLASHED in half. Currently Rocking a FT5 (nonpro) and also a TMP pro which has been amazing for the past 2 years now with no durability issues.
The total one nxg one of my fav sticks ever just being that kick point in a new 380 gram weight and bam
Fingers crossed, I have yet to break a stick. I have had them go soft in the blade with slightly less pop but my garbage skills doesnt require pure performance all of the time. I also dont use the sub 370 gram sticks. Props to my Warrior sticks!
Which warrior you rocking?
@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews Alpha LX pro. Backup is a DX pro.
@ excellent choices
I’ve got a new VX model p28 70 flex and I’ve only had it a couple weeks and it’s about to break I think. It’s got a massive chip in the hosel. It’s crazy light though and I actually had a difficult time getting use to it. Or it could be the balance. The blade is very light. I’ve broken the older red line models but after long periods of time. I’m not hopeful on the durability of the new lines. I’m going to try the dual kick next.
I had a small suspicion that the new line went for performance and the durability will take a bit of a hit. It’s fine if they perform really well but hopefully isn’t an issue. A friend has one as well and I’m monitoring
I’ve had the VX for almost two months. Also used the old models for years. I got it caught in the zam doors during aggressive play and it held up. The paint on the back is basically gone from stick checks. It has some nicks on it but I trust it to last longer than big brand sticks. Granted when I weighed it, it came out to 373 grams. Mines a pro 21 curve 77 flex. I’d still love to see a video on these with a more scientific approach since experience is subjective.
@ 373 is a good weight to durability ratio (usually) and performance. His older sticks were a bit heavier so I figured he went for lighter and better performance
The new series feels great compared to the old ones in all facets tbh. I refuse to shell out $400 for a twitch so I can’t compare it to those but it doesn’t seem too far off from the first when shooting and stick handling, to me.
@ it’s probably pretty close. At some point I will get one at least to start prob in variable
I use the Bauer vapor 3x stick it's a good stick for the $200 price range of sticks
Yeah? I’ve heard that a number of times from people
even the asV is so much better than the shitty xf
Yeah it wasn’t near as bad much stiffer and of course no helicoid
I believe we should calculate price vs durability as expected price per slap shot. As in the higher the price, the more clappers expected. Aside from that, Justin, your analysis is spot on.
Haha. No kidding anders you still have ft6 pros or had to get something else?
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews got a single one online in the required specs, but am considering the ghost as there's a good offer available. I believe the shaft on the ghost is the same as the FT6 Pro, but what about the blade? Is it a helicoid disaster? (should be a softer blade than the FT6 Pro)
@ blade sucks I did a repair on it video on my TH-cam few months back
CCM needs to get their s.. together. It’s quite unfortunate they’re compromising the trust earned with previous models.
It’s true I won’t be gaming a ccm for awhile
@@beerleaguebumhockeyreviews just "stick" with a previous model that works, as long as they're available. Let's hope the declining quality doesn't roll over to the other product lines.
@ they will eventually fix this but they eating it for awhile as stuff in production
2 videos on the same day! Awesome!
Yeah but it made my comp crash and the durability one cut a min short but oh well I learned my lesson lol
I thought you loved the asv pro?
@ love is a strong word I said it’s “different” lol In the origins adv pro vid
Me with my project x smoke 😳😳😳😳😳😳😳
Was it ha I just made up the reference but that’s funny
The QR6 pro is like the best performing stick I’ve used in a long time, I’m on a team that’s fortunate enough to get to try the latest and greatest when they drop, I’ve been a Jetspeed diehard since the FT2, used this warrior for one practice and I’m not changing anyyyyyy time soon.
Good to know. I want to get one but budget probably won’t allow to many sticks out there right now
@ very true man, like your review True is the one company I can’t find anything good about haha warrior is at the top of the pack for me right now, the trigger 9 pro was awesome too but that blade is a liability. The qr6 has a pretty stiff blade as well stock, the ones I ordered from them has a modified p28 with the edge blade it and pigskin texture with little grip( I like my hand to slide easier) if I have any left by the end of the season I could send you one to try out but by that time it might be replaced or “old” news, and it’s not completely off the rack stock.
@ sounds dope I really liked the weight and balance of the qr6 in store and grip was amazing. Hey if it lasts sure haha
Warrior has a 2 month warranty, too
@ yes that is huge
