A little about myself:
New to my channel? I'm an average recreational cyclist that recently moved from America to Girona, Catalunya, Spain. The Vuelta España and The Tour of Catalunya will all be held here in Spain!
Sometimes I race and when I do, I share my training with you along the way. So far, I've done crit racing, road racing and gravel racing. I haven't done a duathlon or a triathlon yet, but it is something I am thinking about!
So far in Spain, I’ve seen DSM cycling, SD Worx, Team Jayco Alula, Ineos, Arkea cycling, UAE team emirates and more all training here. Did you know there’s also a GCN studio here?

      THey are not bad for your stomach. It is just sugar and gelatin. Gelatin actually repairs gut. The problem is that sugar and citric acid in them for your teeth. They are worse than sugar water or gels because you can't quickly swallow them. You have to chew them a lot so the teeth take some beating.. THe more acidic (sour) the candy are the worst for your teeth. So ideally use something that has no acid stuff in it like marshmallows. But the problem with them is that they take a lot of space in your pockets.. 🙂

    Thanks for the video! I live in Colorado and I put in 4,000, mi outside last year. Now that it's winter, I'm not riding as much and considering an indoor setup. I don't want to spend a fortune, so I appreciate your thoughts! One idea I'm already having, is to buy a simple remote power switch for turning on my fan. Since I will be starting off cool, I don't think I'll want to get off the bike to turn on my fan (but I'm certainly not going to spend $300 on a fancy one with a remote).

      Good question! I think it’s going to be different for everyone. But that’s why I really recommend getting a bike fit. A good fit can fend off a lot of issues. Spending some time stretching after each ride can help too. On the last day, I had some neck stiffness but no pain. All of that said, if someone wants to primarily do long distance riding, I would recommend an endurance road bike over an aero one. I used this because I don’t have any other option.

    All great tips. I know it took me five days and not three but I felt fresh for the whole lot, maybe apart from the day we rode together because I just hadn't recovered from a hard ride after two weeks off. The base wasn't there and I really should have knocked out an easy ride to begin with and build up. But by the 160km on the last day, I felt like I could have kept going. So staying within the right zone, recovering well and listening to your body when you're pushing it and remembering to stay within your limits, it's dead easy. I think it's the same when I was bike packing loads knocking out cumulative 160km+ days, the main thing was really keeping the riding easy, not pushing hard and staying within range. Setting reminders on my computer to eat and drink really helped too, just keeps you thinking about fuelling and making stops for a mix of snacks. Sugary, salty, fruity with a base of complex carbs like rice and oats. Nuts were great too but not whole, cos they are tough to eat. And that's the other thing, you need plenty of easily digestible food on the linger rides, because you don't really get hungry and your body doesn't wanna focus on digestion because it's focusing on maximising your blood sugar, so little and often and easily digestible is the way forward. Don't stop for lunch but stop for regular snacks, like a baguette or a pastry or a toastie.

    • @framedman
      @framedman หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've also just started taking magnesium and potassium supplements and they really help. As does a protein shake within 30 mins of a hard ride. I also take vitamin D because I'm diabetic, so I'm naturally short in it. That helps me, plenty of people who sit at desks indoors say it gives them a bit extra too.

    I started cycling back in 2013 to lose weight and get fit…being a female cyclist, the most toxic part of cycling in my own experience is the competitive and cutthroat nature amongst the female riders…especially the racers…everytime I showed up to an all female group ride or a regular group ride with females there, I was not welcomed by any means…since moving to Vegas from small town Midwest, this issue only amplified…so I just started riding alone…after riding alone for so many years, I just lost the motivation due to living in an environment that’s no longer safe to ride on the roads due to too many bad drivers, and 1 to 2 hour drives from my house just to get to the area I ride my bike…then I rode on Zwift for about a year straight and just got burnt out…it doesn’t give me the same satisfaction as riding outdoors, so I no longer ride…I miss it terribly…but, I just no longer enjoy cycling in the toxic environment I’m currently living in…I’d love to move to a place like Girona, Spain and embrace the culture while exploring the roads there, but to be honest, I don’t have that kind of courage…I have great respect and admiration for those who have made that leap and didn’t look back! Kudos to y’all!!!

      Hi Alicia! Thanks for sharing your experiences. That’s unfortunate to hear though. I hope one day you find your way back onto the bike since it’s something you enjoy. Have you tried gravel or mountain biking? It’s a good way to get away from the cars. Also, I’m curious… as a female cyclist, what type of topics/content would you want to learn more about? I find my audience is almost 100% male, but I would love to put some stuff on my channel that would be interesting for women as well. Obviously, as a man, I’m sure I have some blind spots. I appreciate any feedback you can give me. Happy New Year!

I have tried mountain biking actually before I fell in love with road cycling back in 2013…my husband was an avid mountain biker at the time…he tried teaching me how to ride a bicycle(never learned as a kid, so I learned at age 35) on his mountain bike and that ended very ugly😂…so, someone had given us a very old steel framed 10 speed roadie that they were just going to throw away😳and I learned on that and shortly thereafter, I fell in love with road cycling…reason I love road cycling is because I love the speed!…I was completely hooked riding 10 to 12 thousand miles a year back then…I commuted, did group rides, and rode with my husband when he had time…got myself in the best shape of my life!!…we moved to Vegas in 2018(for my husband’s work)around the time when gravel biking was just starting to get popular back home…Vegas is known for it’s mountain bike trails…mountain biking is huge out here, but as you already know, it’s not for me…as much as I personally would love to become an expat in Spain and have access to the best environment for cycling in the world, my husband and I are trying our very best to get back home(not much work there) and if that were to happen, I’d most certainly get into gravel riding(though I’d still ride on the road too)because we had tons of gravel options back home…little did I know back then…as for the female cycling perspective, unfortunately, I don’t think I can be of much help because I pretty much only watch men’s cycling and when I do ride, I now only ride with men due to the bad experiences I’ve had trying to participate in some women’s groups…I find that women are just way more catty than the men(though I’ve met a few men out here in Vegas who can be just as toxic for cycling) and I really couldn’t relate much to the women personally…I will say, there ARE A TON of high level female cyclists in the Vegas area likely coming from California, but like everyone else out here, most are gravitating towards mountain biking because it’s just getting too dangerous on the roads out here…I enjoy hearing about your experiences there in Spain…anything you can share about how you have become an expat there, your current experiences there, future plans, maybe share differences in the bike culture there verses here in the US(unless I missed that one)…what’s it like bumping into the pros there? I’m always interested in hearing about how one overcomes setbacks on their cycling journey if you’ve ever experienced such, it’d be wonderful to hear of your experience!… I love your channel…it certainly motivates me to ride again…I mostly hike now because there’s more hiking options than anything out here, but my heart and passion is and will always be in cycling! I’m just waiting until we are living in a better environment for me to get back on the bike…I hope you had a wonderful New Year and ride on!

    Good video. Myself I like to do much indoorbike races , and I guess that is treshold, but I am putting zone1+2 days inbetween. I want to not exceed two highzone days a week, and to get in at least two lowzonedays, and maybe 3 or 4 lowzones.

    Another awesome video. Is there a way to do a zone 2 ride in Trainer Road?

      Thanks, Jeremy! Yea, they have a library of zone 2 targeted work outs. When you’re in the app, filter the workouts down to endurance rides.

    Racism is everywhere and each person of colour will experience various levels of it depending on who they come into contact with. As you’ve mentioned, sometimes it can be very subtle and other times quite obvious. It is what it is and it’s never really going to change. I’ve been black for over 54 years and I still experience racism 🤷🏾‍♂️

    I think any European country would have a preferable public healthcare system than the United States. Civilised countries don't bankrupt their citizens for healthcare.

    I've used both private and public healthcare in Spain. Unless you're employed here, where your employer pays your social security, it's around the same as private health insurance. Although it costs more than in the UK, the level of care is superb. We have one doctor who knows us and our kids and we can text them when we like to ask about stuff, especially handy for the kids. You can also just rock up and see someone for something on the day and appointments are easy to get. The public system is a little slower and a little more clunky but the level of care is the same if not better in many cases than private. If you're a self employed person here, though, it's pricey. Although the social security also covers pension, so I guess you get it back in the end. I'm a type 1 diabetic, so I have to use the public system because my private insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. Haven't had issues so far. Although I get my prescriptions free back home in the UK having a chronic condition. I still have to pay here. I would not want to be a diabetic in the US, that's for sure. Can't wait to read the negative comments on this one, especially with the thumbnail 😂😂

    Another super helpful video. Thanks for sharing. Another idea for a video,...what about the amateur racing scene? I know lot of pros train in Girona, but I am wondering about the local amateur scene. Are there regular road, mtb or cyclocross races? Masters rider here...just curious as that is a great way to build community.

    What do you want to know about life in Spain? 🤔

  • @angyliv8040
