Hope that guy who slid out is ok but seeing lamperti float through those corners while guys are sliding out and losing control trying to hold his wheel into the final sprint… unbelievable If you name a skill that you need to race bikes well, he was probably the best at that skill in the field. Fun to watch the race and great analysis! I was yelling at my TV “wtf you’re leading him out” but I dont think they had a choice 😂

The difference between division 1 world tour pro and Cat 1 domestic pro is night and day. Most Cat 1 domestic pros can do ≈ 5 watts/kg for 20 min, that’s high tempo for a world tour pro, something they could do for 120+ min.

When you point out the Luke was 4th wheel behind those 3 x teammates on the last lap, remember that 2 of those guys will remove themselves from contention after doing their leadout. So he only has to deal with 1 of them himself.

Absolutely mental how smart he is on the bike, his positioning shows how world class he is. Reign, were probably pretty bummed to see him right on the back on the lead out, they knew what was coming.
This must be pretty demoralizing for the group. In Hindi, there's a word "Aukaat," doesn't translate the best to English, but means showing someone their status or position. It's like giving someone a reality check on where they truly belong-quite a humbling experience!
In all fairness, you can see people line up behind Lamperti. He gets the benefit of that just as Justin (or Charon for older guys) have always received. There is a bunch of fighting on their wheels but essentially they don't have to fight nearly as hard. I do like that the chickens are coming home to roost. (old country saying)
Great video. Having the Giro in your legs would def make this race seem like a short training ride. Trackies come off the TdF and do low 4minutes for the 4km pursuit at the olympics. The boost from a GT is off the scale.

Once upon a time in the 1980's in a RTTC even one chilly morning in Derbyshire, one lone pro was in the 120 start list. Lots of top amateurs turned up, I was sure some cream of amateurs would take it, JD said, nope let's see. We both rode, quite fun down the via gelia, the Pro won by minutes ha.
Crit racing is a very different animal though. A lot of European WT riders have had trouble crit racing. Euro cross racers don't really have any issues. *Of course, Luke is an American racing in Europe.

All comes down to power to weight in the last lap if you've still got the legs. Plenty of power, not much weight and plenty in the tank still is the reason he won!
I'd say Cory Williams and all the other "names" were never Luke's problem. If you're World Tour your biggest enemy at races like these is your own fitness.
The big question is what would Patrick Lefevere say if this guy broke his collar-bone at a trivial criterium in Oklahoma? The American peloton would be shredded if they raced 5 hours with this guy. Look at what happened at the national championships in Charlestown. This should never happen. Things have really fallen off the table in the USA since the loss of the Tour of California.
Once you become a pro in Europe, do you think their cycling mentality is just that much more serious and supreme than in the U.S.? I mean the US has mostly crits... and they have hours long road races, and some crits too, but again. is their level just much greater there generally than the US?
@SeeSmithTV yes, I agree. I've seen the numbers, 800 watt efforts for minutes AFTER 4 hours of riding w all the efforts before. ...just mind bending. And even after the race, Luke didn't seen like he was destroyed.
He also had to beat Dusan Kalaba (2nd place 2023) and Alfredo from Reign Storm. Legion hasn't been that fast this year. Justin 1 race off his suspension, not sure how he got out of that early to make it to Tulsa, and Cory is a new dad which instantly slows you down.

Criterium racing is probably the most popular form of racing in America. A lot of people find it fun.

Everyone in this peloton are great riders, but World Tour talent is just a completely different level.
