These were very helpful refreshers, they give me more context on things I did know, and I liked the part where you mentioned staying low, and staying out of the court after serving.
her dink is to arm movement - using elbow etc.
Great video, learned a lot and I am going to watch it many times :)
👏👏👏 An enjoyable watch
Great points of refinement
What happens if your foot touch the back line right after serving
Just an awesome teaching video! Thanks to both of you!
I defend with the Kyle instead of hitting a lot of backhands, especially if my body shape is facing to the right and no time for backhand ! Pretty sure it’s because of badminton
It’s really only bad below the knees or when I can easily hit a powerful backhand
I think a small amount of extra speed must be the main advantage
The other large factor of turning the paddle face over is that it creates topspin. A regular backhand dink/flick has little to no topspin on it, because of the angle of the paddle prior to striking the ball. When you preform the Kyle you can hit a much more aggressive shot than expected because of the topspin you create.
Yeah, i don't see the advantage. You have the same options with the backhand, but without all the extra movements.
what is the purpose of flipping the orientation of the paddle. couldn't you just wait, wait, wait and flip it with a backhand shot? The Kyle looks cool however.
Flipping the face allows you to hit angles that weren't possible otherwise. It also disguises the speed up!
Not only the angles but I think more importantly the other edge side of the ball for different spin if desired. But, it is a bit of extra movement for the deception. Just shift the feet instead of the paddle last second and still get the speed up up the line.

Just for fun, the pickleball rackets look like cutting board, in the kitchen :))
Helpful! 👍
Well Done Guys! Wow, I really learned a lot!
Good stuff
Great video. Thanks new sub. What is the proper way to hold the paddle for forehand?
I am the prodigy 😂
Great tips to get me to next level 3.5, thx
I played for the first time today. I stand outside the corner when my teammate is serving. Not sure if I’m doing it right, but I’ve got myself a good 90 degree angle going over there.
2:31 seesaw effect (anticipation) 7:16 lift & push dink 10:02 hip -> Ernie
Shadowing. Great tip

This guy's videos are so good! This is the 2nd one I've watched tonight. But, I don't know who he is... (?)
Are you supposed to move up to the kitchen in segments rather than all the way in one motion as soon as you can?
These are fantastic tips. Love the breakdowns of errors and corrections.
5 Signs You're an Amateur Pickleball Player - 1. you play pickleball. 2. you are a young person that plays Pickleball, taking a great activity that the elderly did to stay fit away from them. 3. did I mention you play Pickleball. there's no more, this was a great activity for the elderly and it has been totally hijacked from them by, stupid punks that cant play real sports.
At the beginning, I thought these two young men are just some vanilla YT coaches. And as I watched them further, I realized they are GOLD. Subscribed!
Wish you would have included how long do you have after hitting a volley before you can step or fall in the kitchen without a fault?
Good question! It isn’t a length of time thing, it’s about being established before you can step in. That means that after you hit a volley, you need to be stable and have 2 feet firmly planted outside of the kitchen. Once that’s true, you can step into the kitchen right after! In short, don’t let your momentum carry you into the kitchen
One of the best tutorial videos I've seen so far. Good job.
😊😊😊😊
At the advanced level, is the idea of getting into a dink rally to set up the point starting to lose some popularity? I think of the prevalence of top spin dinks PLUS advances in paddle technology with much grittier surfaces as factors that might also influence strategy. Just my opinion but I would think that the idea of below the net speed ups are coming into play more often with those 2 factors. If my opponent is great at that, why engage them frequently in dink rallies? Particularly if I have a choice to drop, drive or lob? Why drop and play to their strength? Or am I just overthinking it? :)
The fourth is to never use a real pickle as a ball.
pickleball players are those not athletic enough to play tennis.
I was a tennis pro - and now play only pickleball. It's a great game - demanding physically........ and some of the best tennis players (Donald Young - Jack Sock) struggle playing PB. My advice - go brush your tooth and keep playing tennis.........
Sooooo helpful. Thanks!
40 seconds in and two mistakes, who’s editing this?
Lol, I rewatched just make sure my eyes were not playing tricks. They pointed out the wrong persons. Lol
then at 2:21, he calls johnson ben, wtf
I am sutprised that defensive repositioning is not included in this video. Amatuers stay planted when attacked, pros constantly adjust, anticipating the lane where the ball is attacking them. Would you make a video about anticipating and repositioning defensively? Thanks for your consideration.
thats not buckner split stepping its Kate Fahey fyi
Finally a good video about pickleball!
I agree with #9 so much because it's so often overlooked. Many times, players will get into a rally and keep dinking the same exact way just trying to keep the ball in play. If you're auto-piloting several times in a game, you will not reach the next level. It's extremely critical to always be actively thinking about how you can gain the advantage in a point and force a mistake, especially in the soft game up at the net. This also brings up the conversation of clear and consistent communication with your duo, and having protocols for certain situations if things get out of hand, but that's maybe a topic for another video (hint hint?)
i luv striped so much. having him play pickleball and rl is so cool. i’d love to in a vid someday ❤
Lol, you know too.
As for which balls to let go is not about how high it’s about trajectory. If the ball is rising vs dropping you can also watch How your opponent is swinging. If you know how to put ether top spin or slice on a ball you can also recognize when your opponent is hitting with top spin. A player who generates massive top spin on their speedups can hit a speedup from below net height and still get the ball up and down and the ball could be at your chest height especially if you crouching in a low ready position and your short if the ball was hit with a ton of top spin it’s not necessarily going out. You need to judge what the likely trajectory of the shot not how high it is at the kitchen line. You could have a ball at waist height that is dropping with top spin and another waist height but rising and was hit up from very low. Both are at the same height and hit with the same speed but one was hit w it’s no top spin the other was hit without top spin. One ball is going to go straight up and out the other shot with a ton of top spin will travel in arc and could drop before going out.
As an instructor, this is one of the best videos I've seen. Thanks!
great tips .!!!! especially for me, a beginner. Thank you
Thanks fellas 💪🏾
The downside of changing your type of serve frequently is an increased chance of missing unless you can groove a so many different motions.
Hmm I don’t think THAT’s a split step… LOL
The breakthrough info I've been desperately needing to advance my game!
Huge striped shout out for the bud
This would be the Savannah Banana's if they played pickleball. Very funny video.
