This was really helpful for knowing what NOT to do on the doubles court, especially if you're new to the game like me. But I'm ashamed to say, I saw some of these errors in my play as a tennis doubles partner after 5 years of play. Fantastic tips for playing doubles on either court.
Thank you. Hysterical! I love it when it is a bit windy, they hit a horrible shot that had nothing to do with the wind and they say that the wind really picked up. I've taken ONE step towards my partner, but they miss it and blame me. Even though I was 8 or 9 feet away. I think it's so funny. I'd call that ball in when it was out, but I want to live.
I was literally hitting lobby shallow returns yesterday and had to message my partner afterward and apologize haha. The opposing team had some really nice serves so I've gotta up my game.
I laughed out loud several times. All good comedy has its basis in truth. I can see you guys had a great in making this one. Keep up the great content!😄
LOL...Love the sarcasm! It's so important to be a good partner! I make it a priority to support whoever my partner is during open rec play. I NEVER give advice during a game on their technique. The worst thing you can do is to get them to start thinking internally! I know from my own play that worry/anxiety is the #1 detriment to playing bad in any sport or life activity. If someone makes a bad shot I always say something like "all good no worries", "you got this", "we got this", "keep playin your game", "no worries at all, let's go". I notice quite often especially when playing with a women partner of much lesser skill that they are very insecure and worried about making mistakes and very apologetic. In those situations I naturally hype up their good shots, and if they make bad shots and ask "what am I doing wrong", I still won't give specific advice until after the game. During the game, I am constantly peppering compliments on their good shots. I love seeing the smiles and the confidence built during a game that often results from doing this. I was a coach and PE Teacher for 30 years.
I might have done this once or twice. That’s why I tell my partner to be ready, no matter what it looks like I might do it I might just be trying to fake out opponents out. 😁
