    Been chasing oil leaks for 2 years with mine. It’s 25 years old, and I’m tired. Lol

    • @twinsmotogarage1866
      @twinsmotogarage1866 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Where is yours leaking from? The 03 and earlier sportsters usually have cracked oil lines that come off the oil tank. Usually see some behind the primary. If you remove the battery box you can get pretty good access.

    • @lukewilson4824
      @lukewilson4824 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It does end up behind the primary. My oil lines do stay wet as well. I’ve tightened up every clamp I have down there. Will check behind the battery box. I also get some weeping from my breather bolts. Also appears to seep from the timing plug. Primary and derby as well but I have recently redone all gaskets and o rings on that side.

    Great video, good to see results of a real world test. I was hoping it would also solve the oil consumption issue or at least improve it. My FXLRS is the same, I have to make sure I don’t get lazy about checking the oil level

    • @twinsmotogarage1866

      According to Harley, “Acceptable oil consumption in a Milwaukee-Eight engine is 1 L (1 qt) for every 2,400 km (1,500 mi)”. That would be 3 quarts between a 5k oil change interval. Fortunately my consumption is way less than that amount. I just check regularly. I also do engine oil changes more frequently than required.

      @@twinsmotogarage1866 Sounds like a bit of a cop out from HD in some ways, that’s a lot of oil. Mine is using about 0.4 quart (380ml) per 2400km.

    I hear the easiest way to jump start is to actually connect the positive onto the starter and negative to a good ground on your bike maybe a metal foot peg bracket or the frame. Do you know what bolt on the starter for the Sportster? I know for Touring models it's under a rubber boot but idk for the Sportster which is what I have. I'm getting a Lithium battery so im trying to preprare myself for worst case scenario. On lead acid I would just jump start by rolling the bike and dumping clutch in 2nd gear but Lithium you cannot do that so I wanna be prepared and buy a jump start pack but accessing the battery sucks so id rather hook it up to the starter but don't know exactly where on Sporty starter positive clamp goes?

    • @twinsmotogarage1866
      @twinsmotogarage1866 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Nucklehead-mm9gf I carry this NOCO jump pack everywhere I go. The clamp ends are very slim and can get into some tight spots. On the 03 earlier you’re able to slip the NOCO positive clamp directly on the battery positive without removing anything. On the 04 and later, you can drop the battery cover and hook directly to the positive. The negative clamp can be hooked to any part of the bike that’s grounded. NOCO also has their own pigtail that you can install on the battery and tuck away. That pigtail can be connected direct to the jump pack when needed. Below is a link to the jump pack. amzn.to/3DQgUOa

      @Nucklehead-mm9gf 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I never liked welded bars - apart from not being sure of the weld quality, you are also not able to change the orientation of the bars.... I just put similar shaped bars on my Dyna along with a set of genuine H-D hidden bolt risers - only 4 inch tall ( I was using fatboy ones) I found on ebay going cheap at 60 GB pounds and they're for 1.25 inch bars as well... and they're brand new !

    • @twinsmotogarage1866
      @twinsmotogarage1866 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’ve always done fixed T Bars cause it’s less moving parts and they look better in my opinion. I do like the adjustability of the bar and risers though. May give that a try next time.

    • @thakery5720
      @thakery5720 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@twinsmotogarage1866 I agree that less moving parts are a great idea and found that 1 1/4 inch bars and risers are much more secure than inch bars - there's more area between clamp and bar and the bolts are bigger diameter as well. The risers are called Fat Bar risers and are actually 3.6 inch rise. I went to inch and a quarter in order to stop the bars moving in the riser when I ran 16 inch apes, but as the bike now has over 130 bhp and torque I found it much easier to ride the bike with lower rise bars. Bars are now an aftermarket Sportster Roadster type in 1 1/4 that are slightly wider as well. Both the risers and bars are meant for dressers so they look nice and chunky on my 2010 Dyna, total rise of bar and riser is about 6 or 7 inches less than the 16 inch apes when used with softail (Fatboy) risers from the Twincam era. Someone recommended I 'pin' the bars to the risers when I found the right position but I had tried that on an old Triumph chopper I built in the 'eighties and it didn't work well as they still moved - you cannot re-position them either when you want to !

    Hate to break it to ya. I worked for stone cold cycles. Mainly on V twins and this is a rat f of how to do this. As rhe vid is a cpl years old I'm guessing you learned this has far easier ways to be done and more correctly. The frame openings under triple trees are you plug ins for harness in dynas and most Harley's. No need and not recommended to cut harness away from under seat as that's main harness tie in. Harleys are made to be upgraded and have plug connectors to prevent this kind of mess. As a tech, I would never make a 2 hour job into a 10 hour job by cutting all this. Always cover or pad your tank when working on bars too. BTW the main wire harness is also zip tied under the tank along that frame piece called the backbone. Scary stuff here.
