    A great update, as always: I'm going to get a hold of Ms. McKillip's book and give it a try (I very much prefer older fantasy to the modern fare). During your review of 'Wind and Truth' I had the impression that you were on the verge of ascending into Seussian verse: "It does not wrap up everything nicely, It does not finish all of the things started..." You used a lot of shorter phrases with parallel construction, and uttered with you signature, rolling lilt. It could just be me of course - having read 'Hop on Pop' to my own children several dozen times might have left me "sensitive".

    • @TiffanyRussell
      @TiffanyRussell 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I love that you pointed that out, but it was completely accidental. But like you say, it could be a byproduct of all the reading of children’s books that we do around here.

I can’t tell if I’m just angry at the lack of information or disappointed in what actually there. This book is somehow to long and to short. It’s entirely too long for what’s actually in the book and not long enough for what should have been in the book.

    Thank you so much for speaking about Fitz with so much empathy! I’ve heard so many other reviewers criticize and complain about him and all the poor choices he makes throughout his life without any understanding of the trauma that he has experienced in his life. He experiences so much early childhood trauma and goes on to be traumatized repeatedly by events and even by the people who care about him. In modern terms he suffers from CPTSD. All his choices stem from fear, attachment issues,loneliness, and feeling unloved. I totally understood his choices that he makes when I read the books. They seem natural to me considering it all and I was so shocked to hear people being so judgmental about him. These are such wonderful and beautifully written books and they should be much more well know. Again thank you! I’ll be watching more of you videos

    The problem with the vast majority of scenes with Dalinar and Navani in this one is that they're basically just a camera lens giving us glimpses into scenes we don't have nearly enough context to care about. The chapters amount to giant lore dumps, and it stops being interesting because nothing happening has anything to do with our POV characters. As soon as Odium started messing with them, like Navani being back with Gavilar, it was engaging to read these great characters again! I am convinced the reason Adolin has been the by-far favorite in this entry is because his story was the most-grounded and least lore-dumpy of all the major plot threads

    • @TiffanyRussell
      @TiffanyRussell 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Adolin was by far my favorite part of this book. I agree that Dalinar and Navani were used more as lenses than having their own story in the spiritual realm.

    It really bothers me how much of the discourse is just annoyed mormon fans whining about the gay relationship as if that's even remotely and issue, much less one of the biggest issues with this book. The only issue with that relationship is that Rennarin and R'lain were such nothing characters who got near-zero page time in the last 4 books. I genuinely wonder if the secret projects/covid were really detrimental on this book's development. Writing 4 other books while writing ostensibly your magnum opus can't have helped, I don't care who you are as an author. And the biggest red flag for me is that he did focus groups and had THREE different endings that no one liked, but rather than just pick one and develop it further, he just combined all three into a mismatched mess.

    • @TiffanyRussell
      @TiffanyRussell 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I have tried to avoid most discourse about it, so I could go in with an open mind. I think he had plenty of time to work on it post the secret projects, so I’m not sure how much that time can be blamed.

      I feel validated for not cutting them out😂 After Rhythm of War, I felt like my expectations were more appropriate, so I found the book fine

      @@TiffanyRussell 😂 No don't cut them out, it's a great lough. )) Well, yeah it's not that I hated the book completely, gave it 3 stars on goodreads but very meh review. Rhythm of War i remember liking more structurally even tho it was a slog at times, this one was a really weird one for me on many levels.

      @dillonarm me too because I still wanted to read it after spending so much time with the first 4. It’s a valid opinion (and maybe even a common one) to feel more than disappointed with this book.Sorry if that upsets you Sanderson shill

      Didn’t finish it. Just put it down and walked away. I don’t care about any of it.

      @@Nj-fn5oe I’m no shill, I agree with many people that there has been a drop in quality these past two books. I get strong marvel vibes from this last book. Not in a good way.

      Surprised people get salty at pushback when they phrase comments in clearly controversial ways. "This book sucks" is phrased as you would phrase an objective fact - like "the sky is blue." If you state an opinion as fact, you should be expecting people to argue. I usually interpret it as an invitation to an aweful debate. You are entitled to an opinion, but you aren't THE arbiter of facts. For the record, I enjoyed the book. It found plenty of things I didn't love, but I was still impressed with the story as a whole. Hope everyone has a great day.
