Good one mel
is it better to book one way flights or round trip using reward points? This video is so helpful and your calm made it easier to learn!
Glad it was helpful! It’s better to book one-way with award bookings! 😁
How do families pool miles?
Go to your profile in your account, and you’ll see Flying Blue Family as an option. This is where you set it up. Hope this helps! :)
Amazing as always!!💗💗💗
Thank you!!! 🥰🥰
Does your work require you to travel a lot Mel? And is this a high season or low season price?
This was not a work trip. I was in Kyoto to see my son perform - he’s a violinist 💕 Also, this was considered high season because I was there just as the fall colors were coming out! :)
Kyoto looks so beautiful. I'd be happy to sleep on a park bench if I had a chance to visit. I think for what you paid for the room it was a decent value. I would have been perfectly content there.
Kyoto is truly a magical place! Not sure I could handle sleeping on a park bench though haha! I’m just happy the hotel exceeded my expectations so much. It was very nice for the price! 😁
I really liked the coziness of the room and there’s nothing better than spotlessly clean!
I know, right?!?
do they have slot machines
Wasn’t expecting that question lol, but the answer is no 😅
Lovely video, as usual! Can’t wait for your take on the Park Hyatt Kyoto :)
I’m so glad you liked it! I’m working on the Park Hyatt video right now, so it will be the next to post! Thanks for watching! 😁
I always like your videos. So thorough. Thanks for another one.
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're enjoying them!😊
This was just the amount of information I was needing to make a decision, great job and thank you so much! ❤
You're welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful! 😊
That was a wonderful tutorial! I learned so much!
I'm so glad! Thank you!
Thanks for this video! I was doubting to go to the AF/KLM lounge, since I'm flying KLM to Amsterdam, or to visit the Etihad lounge. But I don't wanna be stuffed in a basement, so Etihad lounge it will be! 😂
You're welcome! One quick note - if you are flying KLM Business Class, then you should be able to enjoy the upstairs lounge at Air France. I just wanted to make sure you knew that. If you're flying Economy and planning on using Priority Pass for lounge access, then you will be stuck in the basement (assuming it's still being run that way). Hope this helps! Have a wonderful trip! :)
Your videos always very nicely presented and organized Mel. But most importantly, easy to watch and enjoyable. You show what needs to be shown minus fluff (ie - excessive footage of jet engines, take off-landing, etc.) - with a personal touch.
Thanks so much! I’m so glad you’re enjoying them! 😊
Best lounge, in my opinion, at Dulles is without a doubt the United Polaris lounge. Enjoyed my visits there. Not a Priority Pass lounge, but a great lounge to visit if flying long haul international business or higher flight on United or Star Alliance (if IAD is originating airport).
Yes, I totally agree! I loved it there. In case you’re interested, I recently posted a separate review of that lounge😁
I like a good eater.
😅😂
It is not a payment option, it a nfc chip for getting your choice of movies from the onyx app to your seat
Videos like this are so helpful. I’m used to United and its import to pick an odd numbered window to have more privacy although I can see the difference on the seat map you showed. I am surprised they served you food that was different than what was expected. This can be so dangerous for those with any food allergies! But glad you enjoyed the meal. My experience with Air France was also a very warm business class cabin. I felt ill from the heat! I am flying business with them again in March, looking forward to seeing the new cabin on our route. I am lucky enough to get a bulkhead with the wider seat well. Thanks for the video!
I’m so glad it was helpful! 😁 That’s a good point about possible food allergies! And it’s nice to meet someone who understands how terrible a hot cabin is!! I literally can’t sleep when it’s so hot and stuffy. Personal air vents should be mandatory 😅😂
How much did you have to pay for the upgrade? I’m looking at going to Iceland next year.
Unfortunately, I can’t remember the exact number, but I do know that I bid only $2 or $3 over whatever the minimum allowable bid was. I’m sure your odds for success vary from flight to flight, but I hope this information helps you a bit! :)
Did you ask for mattress cushion and pajama set? I heard you have to ask for it.
I did and they didn’t have any. Asking can work once in a while, but for the shorter transatlantic flights, they usually don’t carry pajamas on board at all. But it never hurts to ask, right? :)
Because of travel hacking I was able to enjoy international business class flights, but hated that these seats were without vents. I started bringing a portable fan. It folds up and stands where I need it, so I put it on a table-type surface around me. I hate not being able to control the air flow in my space. It's dual purpose. I did the whole status merry go round and it's nice to have the fan for the free cruises. It drowns out the noise from the hallways at night and provides airflow that is sometimes also lacking in the rooms. Love your content! Keep it going.
Nice to see a fellow female travel hacker here! I actually have a tiny fan too but I forgot to bring it with me on this flight 🤦🏽♀️ I’m glad I’m not the only one who hates not being able to control the air flow and temperature. Btw I did the cruise merry-go-round too! I have my fourth (and sadly I think my last) free cruise at the end of January. Happy travels to you! 😊
@@MelsMilesandPoints thank you. I have done three this year. Carnival, VV (epic) and HAL. And I have one coming up in March for Margaritaville and just got an offer for Princess. That one only gives me a year to travel. I don't know if it will work with my schedule. I want to buy a VV cruise on Virgin Red for May because we loved the casino free cruise so much. We shall see.
I’m so glad to hear you liked VV so much because my cruise in January is with them! I’m really looking forward to it. How is Margaritaville? I haven’t matched with them yet (I’ve already done Princess, Carnival, and Holland America)
@ we go on margaritaville in March. Matching to them was super easy, though. I’ll report back if I remember. You will absolutely love VV!!! I’m so excited for you.
The worst seat I ever had, like a cage. No space for tall people. I could not sleep because it was to short.
@@IngeHartmann-p5g I’m sorry to hear that. I’m short, so it worked well for me, but that definitely sounds uncomfortable if it was too short for you.
Flew the Jamco seats on the 787-10s, 772 and 773, and their 787-9 seats are better ime. The magnetic door closure is quite hard, and you feel it every time the passenger behind you open and close it. Also like you said, the foorwells aren't as comfortable as the 787-9. The seat quality is also questionable - those newly refurbished 777s are already showing a lot of chipping and wear.
I didn’t have that experience with the magnetic door closure (feeling the passenger behind me), but I can definitely see how that could be an issue. And I’m not sure why they would design a seat and not think about how cramped a narrow footwell would be. It’s disappointing when a new product comes out and they don’t think through the important things. 🤷🏻♀️
I recently booked Etihad using JetBlue points.
can't wait to fly klm in june and experience the service
I hope you have a great trip! :)
I love KLM and I have flown them a lot for many years in business class and YES: the service is always consistent and crew is genuinely nice !!! I am glad that you enjoy the flights and crew !
I'm so glad to hear you’ve had great experiences with them too! 😊
Hi Mel. Great review. I flew KLM March last year in business class fro Manchester to Singapore via Amsterdam then on to Melbourne. The lounge was very good especially the escalator uop to it with all the houses. Flight crew were also very friendly second only to Virgin Atlantic. I have seen that even the best airlines get average reviews regarding catering on glights originating in USA so perhaps you might like to try aflight originating from Amerstam as the catering on my flights was first class. Thanks for bringing the video to us all 🙃🙂❤❤
Thanks for watching and for your comment. I’ve heard that about catering from the U.S. too so you might be right! And I’m very happy to hear you experienced a nice flight crew too 😁
Thanks Mel for this nice and calm review, keep on doing them and keep the blue side up! Thanks again for your reviews.
Thank you!! 😄
love that they put the new 777-300ER config on the ORD route. at 50k flying blue it's something I'd definitely book again.
Me too!! And yes - 50,000 is a deal, and with a transfer bonus, even better!:)
I really like one day I see you on my flight you are the best vlogger you know why first of all you voice tone is so relaxing and then you are not fake like all others vloggers I saw some of them they take advantage of their position and abuse the crew really I saw that now my opinion about KLM flight do they served hot towels? and I am AIRFRANCE Fan not huge fan KLM because I think they are not as good as AIRFRANCE or even DELTA who is the next airline that you are going to review?
Aww thank you! I really appreciate that! My next flight is on Qatar, but I have videos in the works for both ANA and Turkish Airlines right now, so stay tuned… ❤️😁
Thank you so much for reviewing the business class flight for KLM's 777-300 product. We are flying from SFO-AMS next year, and I am excited to see what I will be possibly flying (if there's not an aircraft change) and what I have to look forward to at the Sky Club. Thanks again for your reviews!
I'm so glad it was helpful! If you’re flying from SFO, the route will be longer too which is great! You’ll have enough time to eat and sleep. I hope you have a great time! :)
Now I want a Delft house. 😂 Loved the coffee cup!
Right?!? They are so cute!! 🥰
I thought it was unusual that a 777 wouldn't have air vents, I always thought that was an Airbus "innovation." I agree with you that 7 hours for a transatlantic flight is too short to really fully enjoy business class. In my limited experience with KLM, I found the flight crew to be memorable as well. I also thought the commemorative Delft house was a very nice touch. On my last visit to Amsterdam, I had actually planned for a daytrip to Delft to see the factory, but it was snowy and icy that day, so I opted for the Anne Frank house tour, which was incredible.
I was surprised too, and sooooo disappointed. I don’t know who ever decided eliminating individual air vents was a good idea 😅 I’m glad to hear you had a memorable flight crew too, and I must put visiting the Delft factory on my list for my next trip to Amsterdam! I’ve done the Anne Frank house tour too, and it was very memorable. There’s a similar place to visit in Haarlem (just outside of Amsterdam) that touched me even more - it’s called the Hiding Place. If you are ever back in the area, I highly recommend it!
would you say Virgin or air france is more versatile ?
I’m not sure what you mean by more versatile? For booking or their actual flight experience?
@@MelsMilesandPoints I meant reward booking , thank you
@@riosafado it's hard to choose because they both have their sweet spots. You should check both when looking for a flight. And never transfer points until you've actually found the flight you want to book. Hope this helps!
Thank you for sharing your experience flying with KLM Airlines. I liked your detailed explanation and your voiceover is very calming.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching! 😊
My home airports are ORD/MDW (Depending on the price) so your channel gives me great insight when I am doing research for my next big trip. Keep it up Mel!
I’m glad you find my channel helpful and nice to see another Chicagoan here! Thanks for watching! 😁
That transfer bonus via Bilt was awesome! I've flown KLM int'l a cpl times now, as well as Air France. The experience was good - not great. I didn't find the lay-flat seats on either to be comfortable. I did however find the meals to be really good 9/10👍🏾 As for the service, I'd give KLM & AF 8/10 - good not exceptional imo. I think the hard product on both could be improved. The angularity and lack of privacy on the AF Bus class flt left me wanting😄 Great review Mel!😊
Yes, the KLM seat was strangely narrow in the footwell, so I understand completely what you mean. I might have been lucky, but my flight attendants were soooo friendly and nice. That was probably my favorite thing of all ❤️
very fancy!!
😄💕
I fly a lot, mostly to and from Europe. I usually fly British Airways, American, and Delta. I have occasionally flown Aer Lingus and United over the years when I have to. Nonetheless, I do not consider myself an American loyalist, but find that American and British Airways to be my favorite Business Class product of the main, large, full price/service airlines. Why? There always seems to be a downside to a flight. From the food, to the service, to the cleanliness, baggage, delays, something is always lacking on many of the flights I have flown over the past several years. Overall though, I have always had a decent meal on American, some delicious and some just ok, but never terrible. I am sorry that you had the experience you had with your meal. I agree with some of the commenters that you should have just asked for another meal. I also think the flight attendant should have asked how your meal was and if there was anything else you needed. However, sometimes service is lacking by all flight attendants on all the airlines and they do not follow-up (though there are some airlines that always provide superior service, but the flight lacks in other areas). The only complaint I have ever had with American was the attitude of some of the flight attendants. On some flights, they have been very arrogant or lack attentiveness. However, recently it has been exactly what one would expect in Business class. Maybe it is because AA's flight attendant's contract was renegotiated after several years of substandard pay? I don't know, but the last few trips have been great. So, for those of you watching this video, know that the meals are usually good to excellent. I am sure there is always going to be that situation where a selection is not good. If another selection were requested, it would have been nice to compare the two, to see if the other selection was just as bad. By the looks of the meal, it looks to have not been all that fresh. Since I haven't flown the ORD to LHR segment in years, I was curious to see what the flight would be like. It is videos like these that help me make decisions on whether I should or not. So as always, thank you for your content and your opinion.
Thanks for taking the time to let me know about your experiences with AA. I’m glad to hear the food has been good for you! My experience may have been an off day for them for all I know. I just share the experience I have for whatever it’s worth. I’ll definitely try to give them another chance in the future. I also agree with you completely that every flight has good points and bad.

For me too, this lounge was an incredible experience twice in the very early morning...almost no decent food - no drinks at all except soft drinks and coffee or tea...why this lounge is so praised - no one knows...
Really?? That shocks me. I’ve only been twice, but both times were excellent. I’m sorry to read your experience was less than ideal.
can you shower there? and for how long can you be there? i have a 10 hours stop in venice
Nice
I was on the same airplane, the 787-800 from Ohare to Barcelona and the same meals were served. I thought the chicken was decent, the sauce helped it along. The hot fudge sundae was amazing! The room in business class with the lay flat seats were sooo awesome! Plenty of room and the seat was comfy. The headphones are wonderful too. The service was excellent, as always in business/first class. Flying back from London to Charlotte on the same 787-800 plane, food was delish, service superb and the seats were comfy. I used my house slippers that they gave me whenever I had to use the restroom. After these experiences on an airplane, it is hard to fly in economy…don’t know if I will ever fly in economy again. Oh and I too visited the Flagship Lounge in Ohare and I had a wonderful experience in there too. I used one of the shower suites before catching my flight to Barcelona…highly recommended!
I’m so glad you had an enjoyable flight! It’s definitely difficult to go back to economy after experiencing business 😅😂
For sure!
What a nice looking lounge. I loved the quiet suites and pressing closet!
Me too!!
