Once you get a starting island that has enough resources to actually survive it is alright. I had to reroll five times to get a starter island that had enough rocks to build a water catcher, axe/shelter, and knife.

If one is fine with being stuck on a island with a bunch of criminals and degenerates and thinks they can handle it, one will generally fit right in. Having a bunch of friends with you vs that^ makes it even more fun so long as they are thick skinned as well.

I’m playing FO4 for the first time after watching the show. I’m enjoying the storylines, and settlement building - which you didn’t mention as one of the main features of the game. I am so into settlement building. I feel like I’m playing a 3D jigsaw puzzle. I love board games with resource management mechanics, so this also plays into that. Shout out to the Skooled Zone for helping me learn techniques and how to think about my approach to problems differently. NPC animation/interaction is better than games that came out in the last 5 years [cough… Cyberpunk… cough] Load screens on a PS5 are so quick I don’t have time to read the text. That’s a different experience from playing Skyrim when it was fresh. So far FO4 feels like a reskin of Skyrim. There are places and plot points that I see and recognise as being regurgitated content from Skyrim. Diamond City = Markarth (lots of walkways from which you can fall your your death) Railroad = Thieves Guild (thieves mark, hidden entrance through a sewer, etc) Potions in fantasy settings will never be the same again. At some point I’m going to play a fantasy character that is a junkie, addicted to potions.

I like the game but I struggle to find players and make friends to play online. I've played TDU a lot and even that online mode was buggy as hell chatting was much easier

The issue with Frostpunk isn't "now" or "then", it's that the game has very little replay value, because every run feels pretty much the same. But if you've never played it, it's as worth buying today as when it came out.

There is a very easy way to decide whether a game is "worth buying in <current year>" or not: Download an """extended trial version""" of the game and play it. Did you like the game? Great! That means it's *probably* worth buying. If you didn't like it, just delete it from your PC. It's really that simple.
