Mountain Fork Creek Short
I took my ProMax out yesterday for its first real world test hike running the latest firmware 7.2.5. Didn't fly it out over the waterfall edge since I wasn't sure the omni terrain would function properly, although it seemed as if it was. Just being overly cautious. Loving this drone so far but my pilot skills need improvement.

Murray Falls at Mountain Fork Creek
มุมมอง 479 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
This hike is a nice route I like to do occasionally. There are two nice waterfalls at the top of Mountain Fork Creek and a side drainage that is east of there that allows you to connect to the OHT, and thus make a loop back to the trail head. It's about 2.5 miles but has some steep hillsides. 0:00 Drop In to Mountain Fork Creek 20:14 Drone Footage 24:35 Bluff Line to Waterfall 28:03 Bushwhack t...
Valley of the Blind
มุมมอง 81วันที่ผ่านมา
Some friends and I got together to explore a bluff line commonly referred to as the 'Valley of the Blind.' This hike was about 3 miles and 500 ft. of elevation gain. Not too bad at all. I was a little under the weather but managed it just fine. The fall colors were popping pretty good but it has been so dry they weren't their usual brightness.

This is the first of two hikes we did on this day. This trail offers some nice views of the area around Jasper, AR. We went in the early fall so the leaves obstructive most of the views except on the North bluff. The milage for this hike is right at 4 miles if you do all the loops. I recommend hiking to the top and working your way down.

On this hike I took the BRT and then crossed over to the ORT and eventually got on to the Chimney Rock Trail (CRT). From the CRT I made my way down the south side of Roark Bluff, across the Buffalo and jumped on the BRT heading south back to the Ponca low water bridge. The total milage was right at 6 miles.

Center Point Trail (Rain Hiking)

Over this Labor Day weekend I wanted to get out and do some hiking. This time of year you either hike in the heat/humidity or in the rain. On this day, I chose the rain. There was a little thunder here and there but nothing too dangerous. The Buffalo River valley looked beautiful with the clouds dancing over the river. Got wet going in, but it was all sunny hiking out.

That's an annual event for me since hiking to the falls from the bottom is much easier than starting all the way from the top. Then there is Horsehead Creek where I've backpacked into a couple of times and set up a basecamp where Dawson Branch is. Then there's Turner Hollow, Slogan Hollow and Emerald Hollow with many waterfalls

      This is the West Fork Horsehead Creek, not the main Horsehead Creek (which is east and north from where we were) that flows under the new bride into Horsehead lake. If you go down to the day use area there's a road that goes west for a little bit and intersects with another dirt road and the West Fork Creek itself. There’s nothing wrong with kids screaming and hollering in the woods you curmudgeon and because everyone knows this you literally accuse the kids of carving into trees saying “These are the very same people who are carving their names into trees and rocks and stuff” despite having zero evidence of this. You are the problem not them, take a look at yourself.

    • @travelingwithspinoza
      @travelingwithspinoza 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching the video, or at least part of it. I may sound like a curmudgeon but I fully stand by what I said here. First, I didn't accuse these particular people of carving their names on rocks or trees. I hadn't even laid eyes on them yet when I said that. A more reasonable interpretation (and what I actually meant) is that these are the very same types of people that would likely engage in tree or rock carving behavior. Rowdy behavior usually manifests itself in a variety of ways. Does it always? No. But chances are greater. Had I witnessed them doing so you can bet your bottom dollar I would have included a much longer rant about it. Second, you say there's nothing wrong with kids screaming and hollering in the woods. You and I do not have a shared perspective of what the forest is. To me, places of natural beauty that are open to the public are not just places "in the woods." The forest serves as a kind of sanctuary or place of solitude, and for some, it is even a church. Being respectful of others while in the forest is one of the seven principles of Leave No Trace (go to lnt.org to see more). Noise pollution is still pollution and degrades the quality of the experience for the visitor. We had to double time it down to the waterfall area just to ensure we would have a few minutes to enjoy the area before they arrived. Once they did, they ran all over the place screaming and climbing over every rock they could. Glory Hole Falls should not be treated like a city park.

      It's not a bad hike up to the top. Saw evidence of hogs everywhere.

    8:40 That clear cut strip down the mountain might be a path for a buried gas line.

      The Mulberry does. The only recorded bear attack on the Ozark Highland Trail happened about 5 miles from where I was bushwhacking. I've been through that area for years and have never seen one so it isn't something that worries me much. Fun Fact: Way back when, the unofficial nickname for Arkansas was 'The Bear State.' Glad you liked the video. It was fun to make.
