Ah, that elusive seven note baroque trumpet coda! I've had a copy with it that was dubbed from a cassette that was dubbed from a promo single! My only thought as to why they may have intentionally left it off the final release would have been to leave space for the radio DJs to do their usual voice-over spiel at either the intro or outro (or both) of the songs they spun, to 'keep the flow going'... I've missed that trumpet outro for so long, and had MANY people over the years look at me with a blank expression when I've mentioned it, as if it had never even existed...

Beatles sold a lot of records not because they were the greatest musicians but simply because their music was easy to sell to the masses: it had no difficult content, it had no technical innovations, it had no creative depth. They wrote a bunch of catchy 3-minute ditties and they were photogenic. If somebody had not invented "Beatlemania" in 1963, you would not waste time on such a trivial band.

I have been fortunate enough to have been able to see many of these artists play live in my life…and when I saw Gary Brooker perform this song live while on a Hammond B3 it sent chills down my spine. An incredibly beautiful performance that I’ll never forget. Thanks for your great mixes on these classics.

Personally, I loved the organ notes panned in the 2017 mix. I have to say, prior to the 2017 mix, I never really liked the Pepper album, that mix made me love it. Great work, regardless.

The separation shows the imperfections in the drumming and, for me, doesn’t work as well as the original. The original worked better as the unseparated ‘mixed’ instrumentation covered such imperfections. Very interesting though. 👍🏻

The increase in headroom is not friendly to these earlier recordings especially. They were originally designed for a smaller stereo spectrum. The increase in compression was necessary to accommodate this. Removing the compression opens empty space that makes the sound less dense and ‘group-like’ as well as making flaws in performance of these quickly made recordings more obvious. I say, it’s a pity that the technology and engineering can’t leave well enough alone…and let it be.
