That was the one thing I was looking forward to with the 2023 remix and the lead vocal was still really low. Why would George record his voice like this?!
Hi. I have certainly enjoyed many of your other mixes, but with respect I think you missed it this time. This offering sounds more like a demo. Occasionally pop songs are improved by offering a bit of mystery in the vocal presentation. I think this is what George was going for in the original mix. I tend to agree that up front Beatle vocals are often what give them true personality, but on occasion, the recording method (as you mentioned) does not suit that approach. As always, your video offering is top notch.
Please help me understand. I realize that the Beatles were always trying for new sounds and didn't want to repeat themselves. But was the concept here that George would sound like his voice was being recorded in a broom closet, or perhaps inside an actual old brown shoe? It sounds like a first-time podcaster who doesn't know how to place a mic or treat a room. Was it just intentionally awful for effect?
I've referenced the Mark Lewisohn book 'The Official Abbey Road Studio Session Notes' within it he states "On Wednesday 16 April George Harrison huddled into a small corner of Studio 3 to record his lead vocal trying to achieve a tight but natural echo." He also states that the recording was mixed the same day so possibly this could have been a rush job. This most certainly could have been fixed by a second vocal take in a more conventional manner so maybe this 'shoebox' sound was intentional. The only remedy that I'm aware of with today's technology would be an A.I. program that could mimic Harrison's voice. I wouldn't be an advocate of this because it's really not a fix, just reasonable facsimile of the original.
Vocal still sounds weak and detached. Sounds like a scratch vocal, to be re-done later. George was a fine singer, but it took real producers like George Martin, Phil Spector or Jeff Lynne to make him sound right in the mix.
Man, Ringo held that groove like an atomic clock!

My love is something you can't reject
Changing faster than the weather

Good to have the voice boosted. Pity it was recorded with such a 'boxy' sound. Was that a conscious choice at the time?
Based on the documentation that I've read it was a conscious choice.
some of the best leads in the Beatles were played by Paul, and this shows that some of the best bass lines were played by George.
Great as always BUT I was kinda hoping you'd fix the missing guitar riffs (starting at 34secs).
Thank you! I thought about that because it has always bugged me. I should have!
@@britt2001b It’s never too late.
That was the one thing I was looking forward to with the 2023 remix and the lead vocal was still really low. Why would George record his voice like this?!
Same here! This and 'She Loves You' were big disappointments from the 2023 remixes. Thanks for listening!
He did it on purpose. It’s pretty cool in my opinion.
Hi. I have certainly enjoyed many of your other mixes, but with respect I think you missed it this time. This offering sounds more like a demo. Occasionally pop songs are improved by offering a bit of mystery in the vocal presentation. I think this is what George was going for in the original mix. I tend to agree that up front Beatle vocals are often what give them true
personality, but on occasion, the recording method (as you mentioned) does not suit that approach. As always, your video offering is top notch.
Thanks!
It’s a nice accompanying video but truth be told only George and Ringo were in the studio when this was recorded......
The vocal is much better.
What happened to the guitars.......
I feel the same way.I never thought the vocal was mixed in properly.Although this is better than the original
No. You didn't make this one better. Prefer the original mix.
Vocal still sounds weak and detached. Sounds like a scratch vocal, to be re-done later. George was a fine singer, but it took real producers like George Martin, Phil Spector or Jeff Lynne to make him sound right in the mix.
Could still use a bit of clarity on George's vocals.
Doesn't sound better than the original track
If it weren't for Yoko, the Beatles would have created a new type of music. what a waste.
the voice is too forward
Great! and a shoutout to that ‘New Orleans’ drum shuffle
Not unlike Savoy Truffle
Not as good as the released version!
Wow you certainly have a strange idea of how to remix these songs, George sounds like he's singing way too loud to a cassette recorder?
