    will it prime if you run it without the end of the lance fitted? I.e. running on low pressure output. If so you could then pop the end of the lance on and you're ready to go.

    I'm not sure if you still have this Makita unit but I got one last week, after this video and your previous one I was determined to avoid priming issues. As such I've 3D printed a replacement cap for the bottom outlet of the tank to accept a normal Hozelock Aquastop connector and remove the need to use the suction tube. The water is now being gravity fed, so I've had no problems getting it to prime and no chance of air entering the system until the tank is below the level of that outlet. Much easier to set up and it's recessed enough that it doesn't hit the ground if you lift the tank up to wheel it around. If this sounds useful I'm sure I can print an extra adapter to send you. At the moment mine does drip slightly as the Aquastop connector is designed to seal with mains pressure, but I'm trying different O-rings and I personally don't mind losing a few drips for the better performance

      @MattTester That’s very kind of you, but I got rid of the unit after that job. So you’ve solved it? Shame that Makita couldn’t have designed or even tested it properly in the first place! Nice work.

    You don't really need to get another fuel pump. If you mount your pump be suspending it so it doesn't touch the side of the housing and wrap it with insulation, you won't hear it with the unit running. And don't use that cheap green fuel line. That stuff is for an air pump in your aquarium is all and not good for a diesel heater. Get some better line.

    • @simplestuff3895
      @simplestuff3895 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Sproutt. Yeh not much. It’s like a cordless SDS. You wouldn’t bring one to a job where you were planning on drilling loads of deep holes through hard stone. It’s handy if you know you have to only do a little or you think there’s a possibility. Throwing it in the van without having to worry about petrol, oil, refilling onsite can be quite handy as it’s small, light and just add batteries. The battery ones are pretty wimpy. I’ve also used the Dewalt. It’s about the same as the Makita. Batteries cannot replace the energy produced by hydrocarbons, so in my view, battery saws are for specific use cases as opposed to a petrol replacement. I’ve also found that the battery saws are useless at cutting steel. There’s just not enough power in them to cut steel with the thicker discs. Whereas this isn’t a problem for the petrol ones as they have the power and capacity to eat through steel. I’ve found even a 4” grinder with a 1mm disc far more effective at cutting even small bits of steel than the battery disc saws. I have a petrol saw for planned and larger jobs and if there’s a delay risk associated with a petrol saw breaking down, which they often do, I’ll hire one locally and just use my petrol one as the backup.

    Try measuring it with A Fluke 43B (or newer) power analyser that will show how "clean" the outgoing signal is

    • @simplestuff3895
      @simplestuff3895 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I’d love one, but can’t justify the cost. I did buy a Schneider PQ analyser panel off flea bay and was going to make up my own box, then it got put down the priority list! The inverter suffered a coffee event recently, so will be sold as spares repairs. It didn’t play nice with certain switched mode PSUs, and since the adoption of the Makita coffee maker, a large output is no longer required. So will be swapping it out for a small Victron, purely to run a laptop and various chargers.

  • @jaysunkreuze1466
    @jaysunkreuze1466 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I applaud the concept, but you are asking for a meltdown. That little fan in the diesel heater requires very little back pressure to evacuate the heat. Adding back pressure will indeed overheat the unit and may very well cause a catastrophic malfunction and hopefully just a melted ecu board and not a fire. Maybe dont smash the heel all the way down, and ideally drill anbunch of holes in the pipe to prevent excessive back pressure. In fact i may just make one myself as im always wet.

    • @simplestuff3895
      @simplestuff3895 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re right about overheating and an important consideration for anyone doing this. In my van, the glove warmer is fed from only one side of the splitter following the heater output, so no back pressure. Two years running without any issues. What would be really useful would be for someone to upload a design to thingverse for an interface plug that allows people to plug a pipe into a standard 75mm outlet vent. This would allow all sorts of ‘passive drying’ devices to be made by people that can simply be plugged in to the existing installation and removed when not in use. A design being available on thingverse means that anyone can have the heater outlet interface plug 3d printed by themselves or other offering the service, anywhere in the world. I’d like to make a plug in boot drier for inside the van.

    Can you write your long term experience with this heating system ?

    • @simplestuff3895
      @simplestuff3895 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sure. I’ve used it for three winters now and as I work and play outdoors, it’s been great. I’ve also made up a couple for friends that plug into the cigarette lighter socket. I find that if I run the engine for 5 mins or so before moving off and turn the floor heater on, I put my feet flat on the floor it quickly warms my feet. It’s limited use when driving as it’s only my heels that contact the floor. None the less, you do get heating effect too on feet and lower legs. Works best with a thin mat over the top. I’ve left it on a couple of times and it’s drained the battery, although not an issue for starting as it’s an auxiliary, it damaged it. So I’d put a timer circuit to control the relay, say for 20mins after switching on with a momentary switch to an Arduino or something similar. Other than that, there’s nothing to fail and will install again in future vans. Hope this helps.

    • @simplestuff3895
      @simplestuff3895 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In theory yes. It will depend on the sine wave signal output from the inverter of the Jackery. Some inverters have more of a square wave, even when they are marketed at pure sine wave. Some switched mode power supplies don’t play well with inverter outputs. If you’ve got all the stuff there, then worth a try.

    You can try connecting a fully charged battery to the one that won't charge by connecting positive to positive and negative to negative to boost the battery enough to get your charger to recognize it. Need to do this if you discharge the battery lower than the charger is set to recognize it. Given it, a try might save you some cash
