How do you decide, how "deep" you want to go into the shaded part with the glaze?

Was the sponge also treated with white spirits?

Do you use a special oil for miniatures. i know regular canvas oils have a lot of linseed oil and take a long, long time to dry.

I use simmilar technique when I want make the flesh looking like still burning inside - using yellow color (Contrast pain most often) with black drybrush over it. Your more "grounded" burned flesh looks very good, I'm tempted to try it as well.

Nice nice nice. What colorous i should mix on your opinion to make blue flames on this technique. I use contrast citadel. Help me.

Not entirely clear why so many people say this method is superior to shade washes. This way still leaves residue and it rushes quickly into the deepest contours that it finds, so it doesn't shade in gradients as smoothly and you still have to whisk it up to 'clean it' with mineral spirits and a Q-tip. The shade wash way dries too fast to clean up, but it leaves more gradual shading (from deepest contour to highest ridge) and the "clean up" instead involves re-applying a layer coat or applying a drybrush or stipple on top to recover the color. It seems like these two methods can both achieve good shading, and neither are necessarily objectively better. I could *maybe* see how oils would be better for Stormtroopers and for shading really delicate and ultra-bright minis, but when applying to an entire model...when I watch videos like this I'm like "This just looks like shade washing but with different steps. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's not jumping out at me.

one question, please: i saw the final black wash is pretty diluted. doesn´t this wash reactivate the previous ones? i presume you use white spirits to dilute them. thanks!

Hi! What do you use to permanently set the pigments? I've tried your technique but when I handle the miniature my fingers get stained. I've tried matte varnish but it darkens the rust effect. Thanks!
